  2. Celticrollercoaster supporting Shay, our bhoy wonder along the way on

    Good morning CQN

I see SydneyTim’s valentines love in with The Bonusman broke the blog.

Yesterday’s game importantly was a victory. The performance on the whole was uninspiring and we are clearly not playing Ronnies promised land vision of football yet.

    One observations from the game.

After Boyata’s goal, it flashed up on the screen, “treat yourself and get your hero’s name printed on your top for free.”

I spoke to the lad beside me, who has also had the seat since 1995 and said out of the current team who would you have on your shirt?

We thought for a while and both agreed Brown and maybe Griffiths, but really struggled, and I think there lies in part of the issue of our current strategy and indeed our performances this year.

    No more heroes.

So my question today to CQN is:

Which current player’s name would you have on your shirt?

    HH

    CRC

  3. God CQN has got very boring – no real analysis just trite soundbites. Fact is Peter Lawell has to do what he is told and Celtic are stuck in a diddy league. Next year every team in the EPL will start the season with 110 million basic. That is the reality in which Celtic now operate – Bournemouth, Swansea, Watford and the like are now bigger clubs that Celtic – sadly. Sack PL, sack DD, sack the board – yeah and everything will change, it might, then again it might not.

Big Derk, his 30 minutes against Ross county before the worm cast did him, proved to me he is a hero!

Good observation – very few, to be honest.

I’d go with wee Tierney – he has the makings of a hero.

I think Armstrong will come good, but like too many of the current squad, we really need some muscle in alongside them. Even Broony pulled out of a couple of tackles yesterday.

Funny coincidence you raised that point, though – I was laughing yesterday when I saw a chap in front of me and Wee BGFC with “Ciftci 7” on his shirt – he must have made that decision in haste !!!

Tierney or Griff; however I’d need to break my own rule about middle aged men and football tops :)

The last top I bought was for Seville…

And well done Leigh on reaching 30 goals-22 in the League-keep on keeping on son. HH

  7. After Leigh our other top scorers are:

    Kris Commons-9

    Nir Bitton-8

    Tom Rogic-7

    Dedryck Boyoya-6

Stating the bleeding obvious but it’s crucial he stays fit.

We are where we are — there is nothing to be gained by continually looking at the EPL and moaning that it is not fair, the world is against us.

We have to make the most of the factors we can work, manage, influence.

My big gripe is that we are not doing that — we are going through the motions year after year with less and less energy, enthusiasm and belief.

We have opportunities but we don’t take them or we don’t make the most of them.

We continually take the cheap option apart from our “progressive” CEO re numeration policy.

We have no leadership, we have no direction and we have no plan for the future.

The Irish Raj is ruining our club.

He is an arbitrage mentalist who cannot build a business.

He made a call 15 / 17 years ago that has not worked and he is too stubborn to let go.

PL is his well paid bag carrier allowed to scam, scheme and skim as long as it does not cost his boss any money.

They are destroying our club in plain sight and yet there are those in the support who are letting it happen and in some cases cheerleading every move.

Then we have the AstroTurf — take a bow P67 — who feed the party line with a little homespun philosophy and a eye for a catchy headline the shouts “look squirrel”.

  10. Jungle Jim Hot Smoked on

When people say we are/were dreadful after almost every game, with whom are we being compared to warrant the `awful` assessment? Einstein ( Jock`s brother? ) supported my view that everything is relative so compared to whom are we so poor? Certainly not other Scottish teams. We are above every team in Scotland League-wise.

Against the teams of other countries? Too many variables to make that a fair comparison and the same is true when judging against Celtic tams of other eras.

I know many won`t like t but I am left to conclude that the MSSM line that, without Rangers, Scottish football is dire and Celtic are just the best of a bad lot is being swallowed by far too many of our supporters.

I’ve been a bit negative of our play lately and will still until I see a Celtic team on the park that can lift me.

Saying that, a result is what we all want first and foremost and we achieved it.

My main concern is if the griffalo gets injured, what then!

The midfield will struggle to carry us by the winning post…as for the remaining strikers…if fit…well!

I would not have any of them just now. If I had to choose one, young Tierney, for his application, hard work and guts. He gets Celtic as he is a Celtic Supporter who as Tommy Burns once said, I got lucky, a Supporter who has been fortunate to play for the Club. He has grasped the opportunity with both hands.

Didn’t bother going over to CQN corner yesterday as I couldn’t be bothered with all the negativity.

SFTB’s post last night deserves another airing, he hits the nail on the head for me-

setting free the bears for Res. 12 & Oscar Knox on 14th February 2016 12:49 am

Just back in from babysitting my aged old mammy ( just as an aside, if speaking in your sleep is any guide, my wee Mammy was word perfect on Hail Glorious St. Patrick and that cracked me up), anyway I am still worried about the settled will of the Celtic support that RD is a goner.

I think I am as aware as any of the deficiencies in our play and of the limitations in Ronny’s attempts to fulfill his ambitions but…..

I arrived late at CQN corner today and the chat was all about how nervous we were about the imminent fixture and how unsurprised we would be to fall one behind or drop points. A mood was being set and being reinforced. If you want to be agreeable with your fellow Celts it is much safer to err on the negative side and share the misery and network with the mineshafter.

Even after a hard fought win against a semi-decent side, I heard two friends meet outside the ground, and these were two of the barely 5,000 of us who waited until the final whistle to blow before leaving (out of a 25k crowd, I would have guessed) and their safe greeting to each other was:-

“That was hard work, was it no?”

“Aye, we nearly lost that one too”

We do not give permission to share our joy at winning. It was expected- no big thing- nothing to crow about- doesn’t change anything- we’re still playing crap.

So where is the justification for our pessimism with Celtic? It can’t be just the last 2 games, can it? Is it still the Euro campaign hangover? Is it still being stuck in a pining for MON- the prince over the water- who we imagine might come back? (not if there is a vacancy at Leicester or Sunderland he won’t IMO). Or are we prepared to fulfill our man love for Henrik the player by calling him a Box Office manager? (even though he has a 30% win record at Falkenberg and only 35% at Helsingborg).

Where is our pessimism about dropped points coming from? We have played 25 times in this league and won 18 times, losing only 3. Based on that hard evidence my default expectation is for a win and, without any claim to prescience or premonition, my expectation is fulfilled more often than it is disappointed. We have a 72% win record and we lose on only 12% of occasions. We drop points in every 4th match or so. So, no, we should not be expecting to drop points.

Even taking into account two bad results at Pittodrie and Hampden we have won 5 of our last 6 league games, 7 of our last 10. Only Aberdeen are in better form with 8 out of 10 wins and no losses in their last 13 since we beat them in October. Coming on top of winning their opening 8 league matches, that is two periods of great form from Aberdeen.

So, we have every right to be nervous about the prospect of Aberdeen sustaining their form but we do not have the evidence to suspect that this Celtic team will drop points regularly.

We are winning regularly enough to win this league. If Aberdeen have the form and ability to continue this current 2nd great run of games, they will have deservedly won the league. However their Sept/Oct form after their first great run reads LLWLDL. Celtic have never had a run as bad as that.

So why the shared and reinforced gloom?

CFC are a poor outfit by any standards …embarrassing in Europe and stuttering domestically..but no …its just an msm conspiracy

  19. Isn’t the proposal re excluding us from Champions League an opportunity rather than a barrier? Surely, supposing this goes ahead, it strengthens the argument to escape the league and UEFA to consider openly cross border participation and the evolvement of the Atlantic league. Holland, Portugal, us etc?

Like you I have not been enjoying what I have been watching for much of this Season.

I don’t like the one up front formation, maybe I am just getting old…:)

In principle. what Ronny’s vision is sound. However, we simply do not have the quality to play his way. Too many are either unable to play his way or too many simply have an off day at the same time.

Like others I would like to see Scott, Ryan get more game time. I would also like to see Stuart moved inside the midfield.

I am a believer in being entertained, try and play fast flowing attacking football. Most would agree that we have no right to win a League and that we are in a title challenge. The latter is good for the game but if we are in a challenge let us give a right good fist of it and entertain the Supporters at the same time.

We only have a Plan A and will persist with this as long as Ronny is Manager. I say play to our strengths.

    Keep the Faith!

  25. From my uninterrupted view in the North stand (lower) , I thought we started the game tentatively with some loose passing at the back with Big Craig distributing the ball poorly , as RC closed down our full backs. DB came forward and played some nice forward passes and SJ showed up well playing in the hole.

The managers pep talk at half time had the desired effect and we played much better , good performances by DB, SJ , GMS, and big Erik although he looks sluggish due to lack of games. Broony only looked lost in the first half but paced himself well to finish the game well.

Good performance after a sluggish start and could have run in more goals.

Clean sheet was commendable with one spectacular save firm GC , young KT played well under the aerial bombardment from every RC centre, goal kick , free kick and throw in ……

Still have a tendency to try and walk the ball into the net caused in the main by Leigh’s lack of inches and inability to fend off the big brutes , meaning we have to go round the houses to play in the overlapping full backs for the cut back.

All in all an enjoyable match and relatively little problem getting away as the stayaways help improve the post match traffic flow.

Heard a complete twat on the radio complaining about the games he hadnt attended based on what he’d heard on the radio. A bit like advertising , if you keep repeating it often enough then enough mugs will believe it , like any group of folk , there are a fair few on here that fall into the latter category.
