This is exactly my point. Nobody here knows the basis of PLs bonus, so the arguments about him making decisions that are bad for the team, but good for his bonus are spurious.
Perhaps it’s based on commercial revenue totally outside of the football budgets. Maybe if it’s good for him, it can only be good for the team overall. Again like everybody else I’m speculating.
As for whether it’s all too high. Perhaps it is, I don’t know, but it’s a decision that’s been taken by the remuneration committee, so DD must think he’s worth it.

You are correct that folk ( like me) assume a cause and effect relationship between PL bonus and decline in team fortunes club revenues etc. nobody knows for sure. It might just be coincidence that the CEO is getting richer as the lab gets poorer?
None of that is the point though.
The point is why would you exploit ( already supremely generous) personal conditions in a club you support? Would you be happy to watch the crowds dwindle, revenues decline and then brass neck it for an additional £4k/ week over and above the £16k you are entitled to?
I guess that depends on your moral compass.

Weeminger – Quite correct – PL salary is £600k basic plus up to 60% bonus if targets are met.
If Celtic were in the CL every year his targets would be met much more easily.
Will we ever get a better chance than the last two campaigns – a one goal win against Maribor at home would have done it – and then three one up to Malmo and giving away last minute goal to a reject who could not get a game for us.
I know some will be fed up listening to me saying this – the problem is in the football department NOT funding the squad

As we both agree the whole thing is probably too complex to boil down to these little what ifs but I’m going to anyway.
If your’e a sales guy and you beat your targets but everybody else fails to and the company doesn’t make a profit, do you forego your bonus for the good of the company? I suppose you might if it meant somebody else would lose a job.
Would you if the owner said “We’ve made a loss, we can still get the products out there but we’ll need to use cheaper materials and the product will be harder to sell”? You might hope you can sell just as well and maybe get a bigger bonus because profits will be increased.

I have some sympathy for Wenger. He is the longest serving manager in EPL and has reached CL something like 17 years in a row. Also Arsenal have competed well in EPL always finishing top4 without spending anything like their rivals and have built a new stadium etc along the way. Celtic appear to have common financial philosophy but nothing like the the footballing philosophy.
You could argue Arsenal are delivering on and off the pitch. It’s almost a different game given the transfers etc involved.
