Alternatively spend an additional (over normal spending) £5m+ on the players ‘guaranteed’ to bring CL success. However, for whatever reason – bad management, poor refereeing, players errors or simply bad luck it doesn’t happen. Oh noes £15m+ in debt.
It’s a horrific situation that any CEO of this club finds themselves in. We cannot operate on a break even level with out at least Europa League + profit from player sales. Costs are increasing a lot faster than our baseline revenue can match them.
If we do speculate to accumulate once and it fails – it wouldn’t kill us but it might take a very long time to recover. Is it worth the risk? The board clearly don’t think so.
If they did and it failed – would you be willing to take up shares in another issue to cover the loss? Or reverse it – would you take up shares in an issue designed to increase player budgets, so we could have a no risk speculation?
I’m personally not prepared to put more money in and I’m more or less content with the strategy. If people want more spent, they might need to be prepared to put more in.

Jelavic has just gone to CHina for £9M. That’s the market we can’t compete with/in.
Two doom and gloom Celtic supporters? Having a riveting conversation on how everything Celtic is rotten, only in CQN, priceless, makes me wonder if they sit up all night thinking of the negatives, with the hoops winning at the weekend, it’s the old automatic predictable switch to PL and The Board. Sad life indeed.

We could mitigate the chances of CL qualification by investing in the squad wisely, instead of attempting to buy projects that may, or may not be sold at a time in the future for squillions.
Buy a spine for the team, old heads that have been and gone and done it, it might not work, but we will give ourselfs a much better chance of qualification than we have presently with the failed policy.
How much would say a spine cost us in wages, cos I believe we could get them on frees, a lot less than we are wasting on the projects I dare say.
We’re a buying selling club, deal with it, in the mikey mouse league we play in makes it that way, it’s the only way we can operate in today’s present market, why pretend we are something different, we play in a bush league, or then we like others who have done just recently can pretend to be big shots and high rollers, and get liquidated. Yes? No?

I’d like to see us try a (more or less) 3:3:3 make up to the squad ie 3 from our ranks, 3 frees/old heads as you say and 3 decent signings. It would perhaps be a bit more balance/
I think the Cole/CKR signings are a bit of a move towards that, and I think CKR more than Cole might prove to be a decent move.
However see Jelavic above. We are being priced out of moves at many levels. Free signings will be able to pick up far higher wages elsewhere. Transfer fees will rocket if China really starts to get involved.
Yup same Jelavic, he couldent gat a game with Everton, I forgot he got transferd, that’s how good he was, in fact hes that good I can’t even remember who he plays with?

But IMO only because projected income was predicted to fall due to factors which were avoidable.
KEVJ referenced the lack of investment in the team after the Centenary season. ‘Twas always thus. We have a record of short-sighted parsimony, costing us big-time in the long run.

Two possible reasons Lawwell didn’t go to Arsenal
1. He never actually got offered a role
2. He would have not been able to exceed the terms of his contract at Arsenal- he would only get paid that which is was contractually entitled to- unlike at Celtic where he was able to increase his maximum bonus entitlement by 40%
Re his previous employer – I think you’ll find one of them is also on the Celtic Board .
How do you feel about the inverse relationship between downsizing of Celtic as a team/ business and the seemingly unstoppable growth in CEO remuneration?
That sounds about right, pity our policy doesn’t allow for it.
I have said all along that the policy is a step in the right direction, but it’s rigidity is where it is falling down.
The teams who have knocked us out of the CL qualifiers in the past couple of years have had a mixture of youth and experience, we haven’t, and it’s cost us imo.
I posted something I found on KDS re Ronny at a fans meeting the other week, yer man who posted it put his spin on it, but a poster from here, Gordon was at the meeting and he told the blog what RD actually said, and one of the points was that he would like a couple of quality players in.
I agree re CKR, I think he will do the biz for us, and RD apparently agrees, it’s players like him who can hopefully make the difference, as for Cole, I am bewildered :-)

For me it all depends what Cole’s deal is. If it’s pay per play then, as an experienced free signing when we needed cover, on paper it’s understandable.

They won’t even turn up when they’ve got a manager ‘they rate’.
bournesouprecipe,
They were clearly disappointed at winning 3 in a row, against a club who were indulging in financial doping.
It was also absolutely miserable beating Man Utd and AC Milan en route to the last 16 of the Champions League 2 years in a row.
The above is the kind of letter you’d see in Viz, but unfortunately it’s true.
