Im so glad I watched that game… 2nd half was sensational. The penalty was class… Missing out on his (for a short time only I’m sure) 300th goal to set a team mate up for a hat-trick

    Genius.

  3. Oíche mhaith. Off to Malaga for a week, will be a regular in Timmy’s in Torreblanca for the footie each night. No ‘Leaders’ Debates’ (Irish general election) or the Ronny in/Ronny out saga.

SFTB …. sorry I was not able to chat earlier. Had a few moments now before I have to go out to meet my bro for dinner, so I thought I would jump on in case you were still around.

There are many reasons (none of which are proof) as to why I think happyclappers (HC)* tend to want the OF back, while mineshafters (MS) tend not to ….

It seems to me (spectacularly unscientific, I admit … but this is just a blog, not the Lancet)** for many of certain generations of Celtic fans, (usually older fans, and those who seem to most strongly profess themselves as uberfans ….) their identity as Celtic fans almost seems to be defined as much by what they profess to hate (sevco) as what they profess to love …. growing up with the zombies in scotland when they did, it is understandable … to a point ….

but to reduce it to its simplest …. most of the Happyclappers seem to see a duty to follow the wishes of the Board, en simpliciter, and a good many of them seem to see any questioning or criticism of the Board or players or manager as evidence that you are against the club …

If you were to ask me honestly, and based on what has been said and done (or in some cases, not said and done by the club) as to whether the Board wanted the “OF” ‘back’ … I would say ‘yes, without question’. In the future, we may learn information that would show other than that, but based on the evidence to date, in my view, the case is pretty overwhelming …

And if the Board want them back, and the HC’s want us to support, or not criticize, the actions of the Board, then it seems to follow that the HC’s want the zombies ‘back’ as well.

There are other reasons for feeling this, but those are much more nuanced, and would required a good deal of research, which I have not done, nor am I likely qualified to do …

As for your test about next season about whether an increase in attendance means that MS want the zombies back, I’m not sure your theory establishes causality …. positing one factor does not prove causality, unless all other factors are eliminated. In this case, there are many reasons why attendance may have declined, such as (1) unhappiness with the onfield performance, (2) unhappiness with direction of club under Board, and/or (3i) lack of zombie games. Even if the attendances do increase next season, one would need to eliminate 1 and 2, before being able to say that 3 is the cause.

If the team played good entertaining football, and progressed in Europe, I would expect crowds to increase, whether or not the zombies were ‘back’ or not.

Even if 1 and 2 can be eliminated, then the increase has to be attributable to people who have left, but have since returned.

Further, in my experience, in addition to the group I have described above, the other group that seems to want the zombies ‘back’ are youngsters … who, given their age, etc., may not have been a regular before … but want to be there to confront the zombies ( aah, to be young again and full of piss and vinegar…. ) so if the increase in attendance can be attributed to them, they are not ‘returning mineshafters’ but new ‘fans’ (who may be neither MS or HC).

    * the terms Happyclapper and Mineshafter are both problematic.

** for some reason, I have always thought that you were involved in the medical profession in some capacity (just a guess based on your posts)…. am I even close? If you dont want to answer on the blog … no worries…. Over the years of reading CQN, I have developed ideas of certain posters from their posts … a few have been pretty close… others spectacularly wrong! Nothing turns on it… just interest.

Will log on later to see if you are around.

  6. DD,

It is tough at the minute, We need strong willed players mos def, maybe they are being forged right noo.

I reckon the Manager is Determined to continue to look Long Term, And GOOD on him, a very Selfless attitude in this day and Age, Celtic FC deserves that type at the helm, IMO.

Although I’d prefer Leicester to win the EPL – just because – I would be very happy if Arsenal win it as they have not joined in the ludicrous circus of spend Spend SPEND.

Celtic Submari Villarerreal bhoys putting on the free paella and sangria for any Tim visiting El Madrigal anytime. Muse,Chemical Bros, Massive Attack, Maccabees, Bloc Party, Kendrick Lamarr and Vaccines Catfish and the Bottlemen. Four night gig in Spain for £60. Mad compared to rip off T in the Park.

In over 50 years watching football, I can’t remember a better 45 minutes to highlight everything great about football as demonstrated by Barcelona tonight.

And don’t forget Messi’s incredible 25 yard free kick goal in the first half. In the second half he just orchestrated the brilliant performance as they destroyed a decent Celta team. The penalty is something you try in training not in a top league game but it was magical to see.

Barca are the best football team I have ever seen, the Neymar / Suarez / Messi front three are without equal and Messi is the best player ever to play the game on this planet or any other !

If you have young kids who want to play football, let then watch a rerun of tonight’s game and show them what they should aspire to ! In a football arena tainted by corruption and cheating, it restores my faith in ‘The Beautiful Game’.

  10. Can I make it clear on where I am with Ronny, I have grave doubts as to whether he is the Manager we need and have posted earlier my views.

I have also posted that I am fortunate enough to be in a position to along to Celtic Park to support Ronny and the Team. I do exactly that for the 90 minutes.

As a Celtic Supporter I think I am entitled to express my view on the way home of what I feel about whether or not he is the man for the job. I also think as a Celtic Supporter I am entitled to express my view on a Celtic Blog as to whether or not I believe him to be the man for the job. I also believe these are the Forums for such opinion, not by phoning Snyder et al or by writing to MSM.

I will not be one of those that said I told you so if the wheels come off. I want Ronny and the Team to win every game.

How many called for Tony’s head after the St. Mirren game, yes it was a disaster on the night but mathematically we could have won the League. Why did he not get the gig until the League was over and then sack him if he didn’t win it, rhetorical question.

I would suggest that the Powers that be knew he didn’t have it and oldco were alive. I take the inference from those that want Ronny to get the gig to the end of the season think that as oldco are no longer with us that Ronny has a right good chance of winning the title, again rhetorical question.

What then, if he wins the League, Zombies are up, the honest mistakes returns, his style of play and we are nip and tuck with the Sheep, Jambos or anyone else do we give him until the end of the Season, rhetorical question.

I hope and Pray that Ronny and all of you out there that believe in him are proved right. I will be the first to admit I am wrong. Just like Hamiltontim was when he questioned why we signed Leigh. Rest assured I will not come on and say I told you so should he fail.

I personally believe the Board have confidence in Ronny but have nothing to back this up, personal opinion.

If we do give Ronny until the end of the Season and then until the UCL Qualifiers and IF he fails and we decide to part company with him, the new Manager will have no time to bring Players in before the window shuts. Then it will be interesting to see what he gets out of Ronny’s Players if indeed he plays a different formation, has a Plan B.

Until the decision is made I will support Ronny publicly at Celtic Park. I also reserve the right to discuss/debate amongst friends and on a Celtic Blog my opinion on whether or not he is the man for the job.

Just wanted to make it crystal clear where I stand and to give each and everyone of you food for thought, both those for and against Ronny.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

Delaney’s, that sounds a great combination of things we like.

I still look out for Villareal results, I like to see them do well.

My son was on a school organised coaching trip to Villareal, three years ago. He loved it and had a great time. The group he was with got to a Villreal game, they were in the second division then, and enjoyed seeing the Celtic Submari banner which, he told me, is a permanent fixture at the stadium.

It is spectacularly unscientific and a bit more specious than I would have, perhaps naively, expected from someone with courtroom experience outwith the defendant’s dock, I might add.

You will have read tonight, from several sources, that it is the young group who are most keen to lock horns with an Ibrox team, not the grey and grumpy brigade. CQN is, I believe, one of the more, let’s call it mature, demographics in the blogosphere and it is there that you will find most of the calls to boycott the Ibrox team. I will put it down to the difficulties in reading local mood from the distance of Toronto but, if you read posters on here, such as Mickbhoy, you will be aware that there a re a lot of pub watching fans and some match day attenders, not heavily represented on the internet, who do want to play some form of thems again. You are way out in attributing that, by unscientific and untestable hypotheses, to the older fan group. You recognise later, after making that assertion that, at the very least, the waters are muddied on your assertion as you hear of many young ones who want to play “them”.

“but to reduce it to its simplest …. most of the Happyclappers seem to see a duty to follow the wishes of the Board, en simpliciter, and a good many of them seem to see any questioning or criticism of the Board or players or manager as evidence that you are against the club … ”

Apart from TD- who else fits that profile you describe?

“As for your test about next season about whether an increase in attendance means that MS want the zombies back, I’m not sure your theory establishes causality …. positing one factor does not prove causality, unless all other factors are eliminated. Even if the attendances do increase next season, one would need to eliminate 1 and 2, before being able to say that 3 is the cause.”

Not sure you did read the post all that carefully. I did not posit just one reason and, indeed, I factored in arguments about 1) boredom with game quality and 2) dissatisfaction with Board or majority shareholder, in my original point. I factored them in and I accounted for them. I stated that the crowds would be back before the game quality had improved and before Euro qualifying success had been achieved. I am saying they will come back regardless of this.

“If the team played good entertaining football, and progressed in Europe, I would expect crowds to increase, whether or not the zombies were ‘back’ or not.

Even if 1 and 2 can be eliminated, then the increase has to be attributable to people who have left, but have since returned.”

I have dealt with both these points above-. There will be no time for a turnaround to justify the fans returning. There might be a new manager- maybe even a new signing that they will be excited to see but it will be a fig-leaf story. We will see a rallying round the club because we can play “them” and it will have an effect on our attendances at other games than the 3 or 4 vs the Zombies. This is all testable and attributable because there will be no other plausible explanation for why the mineshafters (problematic term but we agree that it denotes those unhappy with the team and/or the Board/majority shareholder). It was a nice try but there will be a dramatic upturn in our support regardless of how well we are playing or how we have done in Europe.

P.S. – Not in the medical profession but not wishing to be any more open on that as I value some of my anonymity.

And on tonight’s show, criticising the manager at the top of the league will be an out of work manager and a player staring a second consecutive relegation in the face…….

I know it was rhetorical but…

“How many called for Tony’s head after the St. Mirren game, yes it was a disaster on the night but mathematically we could have won the League”

RD has never had a St. Mirren level performance since the Legia Murrayfield game.

RD was not backed with the Robbie Keane investment that Mogga enjoyed.

RD has got more fight and passion as a manager than Tony was displaying in the face of an adversarial campaign. I am ok with a calm manager and I do not need an animated jack in the box to dnote passion, but there has to be room for some righteous anger in your make up. Mogga, as a player, would never have put up with the shenanigans he faced and “took on the chin” as a manager. We needed Lenny’s fight to reduce the honest mistakes to just an unreasonable level.

  20. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

The last time I saw players trying to do a penalty like tonight’s , was Arsenal ‘s Pires and Henry , they made an Arsenal of it , thankfully.

Pires had conned the ref by making contact with the Portsmouth player to win the penalty . Another obvious incident missed by the extremely short sighted Arsene Wenger. A man who claims his team are picked on but their disciplinary record under his tenure isn’t the best.

  21. LennyBhoy

You’re on the right site to express your opinion on anything Celtic from good bad or indifferent form, the performance of individual players, the quality of the pies or the the management team.

As long as we can disagree cordially.

Personally, I think Ronny is needed at CP to bring in a new and much needed approach to diet, training and player development. We can do this without the pressure of competing against the cheats from Govan and Mt Florida and transform the club while we have the elbow room.

Oh and by the way, there will be no “return” of honest mistakes.

    They never left.

  22. Lennybhoy,

Liked your post though one point smarts, i.e. the sevco/oldco influence, on our title winning capabilities.

They are not a factor. They are not in our league. Sevco is a new club. There is no Old Firm. There hasn’t been since 2012.

I support Celtic, same as yourself. I enjoy my Celtic experience in general, but I have really enjoyed not having to put up with the bile and hatred from the followers of the Ibrox entity, in my own stadium over the past four years. I have no desire to ever experience it again. Anywhere.

Next season should it be that we have to host a club from Ibrox, I will not attend.

Mary’s Meals may benefit to the tune of £80+ but I will not be there.

The reason being I believe that they are nothing but a fledgling 4 year old club, desparate

They can, will, only thrive if they can revive a symbiotic relationship/rivalry with the country’s top club, Celtic. Desperate to

I am a ST holder, will be again next season god willing, but I have no desire

Now if a team from Ibrox do make it to our division next year or whenever
