Celtic will need to dig deep for victory

1054

Neil Lennon’s most inspirational victory over Rangers arrived in January 2011 when a depleted squad in poor form outplayed their rivals.  Despite this it remains a concern that Gary Hooper and James Forrest, the manager’s two most favoured players, are injury doubts for tomorrow. Whether Hooper and Forrest are fit or not, we’ll need all the fighting spirit from the win last year if we want to leave with another win.

Six days ago at Hampden we witnessed what happens when a team in the middle of a results slump focus on the most game they have left in the season.  Kilmarnock are a team with enormous vulnerabilities and I’m prepared to bet than none of you witnessed their last win over Celtic in Glasgow, but they got the result.  Tomorrow is the biggest game in Rangers’ season.  You can forget about Ally McCoist’s comments that Celtic are firm favourites, that’s what passes as mind games across the city. Any win would be an enormous achievement from Celtic.

One of you MUST get and post a foto of that asap :)

I feel incredibly nervous, but in a good way, not the usually sick feeling I have before an Ibrox game. Today could be amazing, and even if it isn’t, footballing justice will be done, next week, or then one after, but it WILL be done. Financial and other jusice will come in time.

Wherever you’re watching today, enjoy, this is history. Those of you going to Ibrox or out on the streets, look after yourselves.

I see the SNP regime in Scotland has banned the singing of “Flower Of Scotland” at football matches.

    http://www.scotsman.com/news/fans-anger-at-anti-sectarian-guidelines-that-will-sterilise-match-culture-1-2194917

THE Lord Advocate has issued fresh guidelines about what songs and chants will be illegal under the Scottish Government’s new anti-sectarian legislation in a move that has angered fans.

In updated guidance to police, Frank Mullholland, Scotland’s most senior prosecutor, has warned singing or chanting songs which “glorify, celebrate or mock events involving the loss of life” should be viewed as offensive.

Surely only a matter of time till the Tartan Army is in custody? (thumbsup)

  6. Murray bottled it ,in his report after Spit and Bougherra were red carded and subsequently broke umpteen rules.

  7. Callum Murray is a Hearts fan, defintitely.

We all know what Hearts fans think of Celtic.

They may not love Rangers but they HATE us.

Whatever anyone does we are Champions. Sure, I’ll be mildly disapointed if it’s not today but Champions we will be.

Everyone out and about today, return to your families unscathed. They are hurting.

Don’t forget the man who’s led us here in the face of hatred and threats………

    ONE NEIL LENNON.

  8. Taken from another site, but what are your thought on this?

“Walkaway ref Steve Conroy believes that his career went downhill after ONE mistake!

Conroy was in charge of the Celtic v Rangers game in December 2010 when he disallowed a perfectly good goal from Marco Fortune and yellow carded Kyle Lafferty for a shocking challenge on Andreas Hinkel.

Despite the evidence to the contrary from Willie Collum and Craig Thomson who have made derby day howlers Conroy believes that his failure to red card Lafferty was the beginning of the end for his top flight career.

Conroy missed out on any SPL appointments last season and despite getting some top flight appointments this term decided to quit refereeing last week.

“People talk about the Fortune incident but I’ve watched it, as you would imagine, hundreds of times and I would still give the foul,” Conroy told The Sun.

“The Lafferty tackle on Hinkel is another matter. I had no idea it was as bad until after the game and all four officials were the same.

“It was Chick Young, who was reporting on the trackside, who broke the news to us when we came out of the tunnel for the warm-down after the game.

“He said something along the lines of ‘Wait till you see that tackle again’. That was the first inkling. When I watched it back on TV I was perfectly okay with the Fortune decision.

“With the Lafferty one there’s no doubt about it’s a red card and I missed it. It’s just one of those things. When I watch it back I can see where I am and maybe because it was my first Old Firm game I was further up the field than I should have been.

“If it had been a normal game I’d have been in a different position and had a better angle.

“I saw Tony Mowbray’s reaction on the TV afterwards but the strange thing was that none of the players around me Celtic or Rangers said a thing.

Conroy added: “It disappointed me never to get another one. Did I do anything in the game that precluded me handling one? Absolutely not.

“Did I make mistakes? Yes, with the Lafferty tackle being the main one.

There were plenty of other people on the park that day who made mistakes Celtic should have won about 18-0 because they were so much on top. Regardless of what you think of the way I handled that one, I don’t think anyone would’ve said I couldn’t handle another.”

In the first derby clash of the 2010/11 season Craig Thomson admitted to making a mistake in not awarding Shaun Maloney one of two clear cut penalties and has been given half a dozen derby matches since then.

    ===================

Wonder in conroy apologised to Andreas?…then there was the tackle on Mark Wilson by Davis.

Exactly the right attitude to take to today.

I fear too many bhoys are working themselves up to believe that a win is inevitable and will be looking for someone to blame if they are “let down”.

I intend to enjoy the day as much as I can because, thanks to the effforts of Neoil and the players, we can go to Ibrox and experience a defeat without fearing a defeat.

Today I can genuinely celebrate whether we win, lose or draw.

not ten minutes ago I was out getting the cats in for the night and I was looking at the stars and wondering about a few people. Pablo was on my mind and I although I know it is mute I was wondering if he was still with us where would he be right at this very moment in time.

I know with me I am a little annoyed with myself that I did not get on a plane and go home.

  11. tom

footage was produced after the christmas derby game …showing Murray in the tunnel at half time

  12. 2 comments from TFPLG in his press conference with the Sunday papers that stand out. Please feel free to rip them apart at your leisure

1.”In terms of the learning curve, i’ve had a 6 months that no manager in the country has had

Try dealing with being physically assaulted in the street and having bombs + bullets sent to you fatso, THEN you can comment

2.”Suspensions, injuries and the sale of Jelavic have dictated that we have had a weakened side”

Suspensions + injuries are part of the game you clown. Perhaps telling your players to go for the ball might decrease the suspensions issue? Ah Jelavic, the player that your club couldn’t afford but you went and bought him anyway knowing full well the total price would never be paid back?

Please Lenny + the bhoys, win today and rub his nose right in it

I really hope the 7000 Tims heading there today have a few ditties to be sung about this shameless liar

    Mon the Hoops

  13. have never been more relaxed about the result of the game against them, love to win it of course, however, i shall be more than happy if our esteemed young manager and his ‘back-room’ staff, the G.B., and this time, ‘chiefly’ yourselves, all return to the safety of

our beloved Parkhead’ with all your facilities in the right places!

Not much to ask for on my birthday!

    Be careful, be safe.

The title is ‘coming home’, if not today, I can wait!!

  14. Morning bhoys , usual hun-skelping day nerves . didn’t even get the benefit of the clock-change – apparently dogs don’t know that the clock changes – daylight means early morning walk !!

Kitalba , excellent link this morning . As MWD says , Martin is in our thoughts constantly and a blast of YNWA as well as a reminder of what we mean to each other – magic.

Resigned to not making it today but for all those going , enjoy and stay safe.

I know Calum personally. He is married to a devout Catholic and his child is Catholic. He definitely doesn’t have a bigoted bone in his body and he used to talk about how he enjoyed refereeing Celtic games because “Celtic always try to play football”.

He has a pathological dislike of our club and manager. There will be no fair refereeing from him today

His performance in the SC game + subsequent defense of Bougherra + Diouf last season, told us all we needed to know

Right. Breakfast + to the Queens Park cafe we go

Stay safe all those going to the Champions end today

What a lovely day. Still, bright and promising warmth and spring sunshine.

What a great day to win the league.

Lenny’s kids need to walk onto that pitch with the tools they were lacking last week. Focus. Professionalism. Ruthlessness.

    Let’s see it.

  19. The inevitability of Celtic returning the flag to Paradise, has not taken away my butterflies today.

I hope Celtic prove our superiority and that football is the main feature.

With today’s truly unique administration atmosphere, where they boast how things have been improved under Duff and Phelps, just think how good it’ll get in liquidation.

On team matters I think Neil Lennon will pull a surprise today, as our magnificent league run has come at a cost of weariness.

Ki Seung Yung will start the game and his inclusion will solidify the midfield.

Celtic to win late on, in front of the Celtic end for all those supporters past and present, it is right and fitting.

  20. Safe journey to all the bhoys at the bigotdome today, sing it loud and proud! Just do them celtic
