Celtic’s Fedur ready for Champions League challenge

750

If ever you needed a reason to convince you to ignore the vast majority of transfer speculation which inflicts football fans from May until 30 August, the signing of Miku Fedor is a gift.  Spanish football is suffering from the kind of economic wake-up call which makes it possible for aspirational Scottish clubs (I know there’s only one) to sign strikers first choice strikers.  Miku came through the scouting process last season and remained on the list but the deal had to be right.

25 goals in 85 games for a struggling team in the top league in the world (Exhibit A: Atletico) suggests we might have someone who will flourish on an acre of Glasgow and will bring experience and confidence onto the field when he faced Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.  The deal has the hallmarks of Peter Lawwell’s try-before-you-buy policy.  Get them in on a loan with an option to buy.  If they are successful, do the deal, if not, you’re not stuck with Ulrik Laursen breezing into training asking the other players how they got on at the weekend.

Right now the most important question is, what shape of team does Neil Lennon have in mind?  Miku plays through the middle and on the right.  He’s fast and he’s 6’1”.  Have we bought a someone to play on the right of a front three?  Perhaps, but with circa 15 first-choice midfield players to accommodate the plan is surely more complex.

More on this when we have a quieter moment, I’m off to bed to forget all apache command line prompts until January.  We’ll talk goalkeepers over the weekend.

  1. Morning all from a miserable Greenock.

Well done to our board and Neil Lennon last night for working hard to get the signings we needed.

We now have a strong team to push forward and do well this season in domestic and European competition.

  2. Long time lurker.Always found the mix of characters and subjects interesting.Feel that we are entering an era for the club that will allow us to develop our young players potential to the fullest while they are so far out of the loop that they do not matter in a football sense.

  3. MickMacPaddyWhack on

Good Morning from the Ancient Capital of Strathclyde, dont know enough about our new signings, but Neil seems content, that will do for me, surely the best news was Benfica flogging 2 of their best players, we could now start the Champions league with a win,and bearing in mind (In my opinion) the ability we now have to bring in a decent standard of player, we can for the first time ever, rest players pre/post Champions league, safe in the knowlege that points dropped domestically will not hurt too much

  4. Lenny had mentioned there were quite a few of the current squad who he wanted to give new contracts to. Wanyama, Hooper, Watt, Ledley are just 4 that spring to mind straight away

Miku? 12 goals in La Liga for a mid table side is the equivalent of 20+ in the SPL. He will score goals for us make no mistake about that

Expect to see quite a few youngsters playing today. Sammi is out and will withdraw from the Greece squad apparently

  5. Really pleased with our Club’s performance yesterday.

More important than the signings that we did make was the players that we held on to. This young team will grow and grow.

  6. I’m with MWD on evaluating the transfer window for Celtic.

It seems that some of the posters who predicted that we’d never get past Helsinki never mind Helsingborgs with our squad, were also predicting we’d sign nobody and are now forced to criticise the quality of our signings to make their predictions “virtually” correct.

I agree that we have had a low spend window. I kind of expected that. I still find it hard to believe our financial position is as perilous as being painted. I fully expect Celtic to be able to trade through the next few seasons:-)

However, I want to echo one of the final page posts before we lost service last night. Thom the thim predicted that, if Templeton signed for Sevco, it was a further indication of back door dealing and confirmed promises that they won’t be in a backwater league for long.

The Templeton signing, along with Black and Sandaza, disturbs me more than anything Celtic did. It smacks of a full scale “Rescue Rangers” operation and Campbell Ogilvie’s denials only heighten my distrust.

I am not worried at all about what Sevco’s squad looks like currently. I half expected them to struggle financially this year and that Green’s finances might collapse before Xmas. The Ian Black & Sandaza signings were enough to persuade the “gullible” to spend on SB money. They did not need Templeton to get them to part with any more cash. It now looks like their intent is not to run off with SB money but to survive and get back.

Am I wrong and should I care?

Will catch any replies later this morning

Taking the Fairford Under 7’s to play Swindon Robins tomorrow morning. We’ll be wearing the hoops. We played our first game a couple of weeks ago and when the other team were running over to the pitch and saw our boys at the other goal I heard one shout out, ‘ hey, we’re playing Celtic’,

  8. McCoist had said all week he wanted 5 or 6 players in as they were very light in numbers.

Broadfoot + Bocanegra then left. They brought 2 in. They are still 5 or 6 players short according to Sally

I said the other day all was not well behind the scenes at SevCo between Green + McCoist, and the fact that Green ignored his managers wishes completely tells you a story

Sally will walk away before Xmas

  9. The Comfortable Collective on

October will bring a share issue for sevco. That is what templeton is all about. Keep the deluded fools on side to part with even more of their money.

  10. Good morning every1,

Signings esp. MIKU and Efe look good. I saw Miku last w/e vs Real not bad performance from him. This Nigerian fella may turn 2B another VW as well. Kamenar i hope was brougth as 3rd gk (Slovak newspapers claim he should be back up gor FF) because he doesnt belong to top6 among Slovak gks and LZ is much better than him.

Just realized that Hibs are 2nd so today it will be game for pole position. 3:1 Celtic. Before going for garden works how can Sevco sign players like Templeton? What can they offer to such young players? Strange.

Crickey, didn’t know Benfca had sold 2 of their best players …. Now that is good (did they go to Sevco?) …..

Celtic have done REALLY well with signing recently, and we seem to have continued that trend ……well done NEIL and PETER ….. CANNOT WAIT TO GET TO PARADISE TODAY

was reading back there and same old, same old from one or two posters, who would have us follow the same financial strategy as oldco …….. Not to worry, we are a diverse Club

  12. I don’t blame young Templeton i blame the corrupt blazers at the SFA.

If they done their jobs correctly then Sevco wouldn’t be signing anyone.

  13. I have a feeling the way our signings have worked out that stokes will probably be sold in the next window. We now have Hooper, Watt, Samaras and Miku for up front. Given that in away matches and in Europe we quite often play with one up and 5 in midifeld with commons supporting then there is probably no place for stokes. Also hearing we are hoping to get a striker in on loan today.

  14. Morning Bhoys from a damp ML3.

I have a spare season ticket for today as my mate’s doing stock taking.

It’s in block 142 and it’s free to a good home.

I’m taking the weans swimming shortly but if you want it either post on here or email me at hamiltontim@hotmail.co.uk

I’ll be at the pools office at 1.15pm if that helps.

  15. Gooood Morning CQN!!!

Been a great couple of days, now we have a game against Hibs with Tony Watt’s first hat-trick? We also have the possibility of high profile free agent joining.

Telling you now Del Piero has NOT agreed to join Sydney.

    Great days!

  16. SFTB

Green is telling porkies to the players agents + to McCoist about this ‘reconstruction’ to get them to sign. When nothing materialises on this at seasons end, Green won’t be around to cop any flak. He will be well gone

Reconstruction will happen, but not for another 3 years. Any plans to try and ‘force’ this through will result in a rerun of this summer. Fans of other clubs (inc Celtic) will threaten a boycott of SB’s if its even considered

Look at the players SevCo have signed and ask yourself, ‘What other clubs were interested in them?’. The answer is, no one.

The likes of Bocanegra + Goain will never play for SevCo again

  17. So after stating he desperately needed bodies Fat Sally got one in?

  19. Oh! they are waiting on clearance for Stella an Australian forward who scored twice in the Italian Third Division.

He will fit into Fat Sallys 2-4-4 formation! lol!

  20. Good morning all, caught Neil Lennon’ s interview on sky last night. He seemed delighted with the business, it would appear that Celtic had been aware of miku for a while. Hopefully its another piece of shrewd business by Celtic.

Any ideas on the free agent Neil mentioned?

Could be a 1-2-2 formation soon….. Have the SFA fixed their system problem yet ? ,…. Sally has 5 more signings to complete…..

  22. Main point of the transfer window, i’m happy with, all the deadwood have been shifted. We have a strong, young base to build on for the long term future development of our club and our scouting network now seems to be operating properly. Unfortunately missing the game today, hopefully watt & twardzik start, 4-0 the hoops. HH

  25. Optimistic about the new signings – solid rather than spectacular which is why we have them.

I lived in Caracas for a few years, and when there was good friends with Guillermo Vallentiner, owner of Caracas FC (sadly passed away). He was a fanatic for football in a country where it is a long way behind baseball and basketball for popularity. Back in 1993 my wife and I were guests at Celtic Park for a game against Rangers and, much to Guillermo’s delight, we got to swap pennants. He put the photo up in his house in prime place beside a similar one with Bayern Munich.

Much of the progress in Veneuzelan football in recent years was because people like Guillermo were dedicated to raising its profile. Their club teams and the international team (Vino Tinto) are no longer the South American whipping boys. Make no mistake, their national team is head and shoulders above Scotland’s despite it still being a minority sport there.

Guilermo would have been so proud that Miku has signed for Celtic. I am sure he will be a good addition to our team.

    Bienvenido Miku.

  26. Marquee signings!!! What all the talk about buying a tent? I thought we had a Gazebo on the books

  27. Read last night a boy saying the wages were 3 days late at Sevco.

If I was a hun(there would be more spelling mistakes for starters) I would be raging today as all Sevco have done is cut costs. They have not spent a penny of their own money.

So they are left with the ugliest ‘footballer’ in Scotland as cover.

  30. Three days late but can I say that Wednesday looked good on a number of levels.

Good performance and a great result.

Pleased for KW in that he put in a performance and played to his abilities.

Ball at his feet he still looks like Bambi on ice but he is mobile, athletic and he can throw his weight about all across the back line. Consequently if he gets the gig of covering CB to a BB Mk2 then we may see him turn into a very useful player.

As for GS – the best “skinner” in UK football according to Mini MM (aged 8 and one month) – he was having a laugh. He wasn’t playing football it was performance art, if Disney want to make a football movie all they need are his moves for the hero and it would a huge hit.

He now really is the 21st century Yogi, all he is missing is the baseball boots.

Finally big plus with TW on the park, cannot believe he is only 18.

Better than CN at 18, looks like it to me.

  31. Despite the claims made by Sevco the transfer of David Templeton hasn’t been acknowledged by the SFA. As 11pm arrived last night the transfer window closed on SPL clubs buying players, an hour later it was the same story for the SFL with no news from Ibrox or Hampden to suggest that

Templeton had signed. While the transfer window closed for all Scottish clubs midnight also marked the beginning of a 12 month transfer ban on Sevco during which they won’t be able

to sign anyone including out of work free agents over the age of 18. Dramatically at 1.15am the Rangers website announced: “ ALLY McCOIST has secured his top target of the summer transfer window with the capture of David Templeton. “

With no quotes from Templeton or McCoist it has to be assumed that the signing had just taken place- at least an hour after the transfer window closed and the transfer embargo had started.

Even this morning the SFA still had no record of the ‘deal’ although they did record McCoist’s stunning swoop for

    former Sienna striker Francesco Stella.
