Celtic’s Fedur ready for Champions League challenge

750

If ever you needed a reason to convince you to ignore the vast majority of transfer speculation which inflicts football fans from May until 30 August, the signing of Miku Fedor is a gift.  Spanish football is suffering from the kind of economic wake-up call which makes it possible for aspirational Scottish clubs (I know there’s only one) to sign strikers first choice strikers.  Miku came through the scouting process last season and remained on the list but the deal had to be right.

25 goals in 85 games for a struggling team in the top league in the world (Exhibit A: Atletico) suggests we might have someone who will flourish on an acre of Glasgow and will bring experience and confidence onto the field when he faced Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.  The deal has the hallmarks of Peter Lawwell’s try-before-you-buy policy.  Get them in on a loan with an option to buy.  If they are successful, do the deal, if not, you’re not stuck with Ulrik Laursen breezing into training asking the other players how they got on at the weekend.

Right now the most important question is, what shape of team does Neil Lennon have in mind?  Miku plays through the middle and on the right.  He’s fast and he’s 6’1”.  Have we bought a someone to play on the right of a front three?  Perhaps, but with circa 15 first-choice midfield players to accommodate the plan is surely more complex.

More on this when we have a quieter moment, I’m off to bed to forget all apache command line prompts until January.  We’ll talk goalkeepers over the weekend.

I’m happy with the signings,as many have said especially Ambrose,I don’t quite understand the keeper I’d have preferred another left back as back up to Izzy and to let him play on left mid if need be and so that Chas can stay at CB and have Efe,Rogne and Wilson all challenge for the spots.

All in all confident we can now keep getting better with the ultimate goal us sitting in this position this time next year.

Big target man up front. Good feet. Good in the air. Very strong physically. Gives us another option. Vast experience.

Id take him in a heartbeat.

He’s certainly striking a rich vein of form, and might think he now has something to prove,in a GIRUY sort of way.

I don’t think he’s better than what we have though, and would have held back the development of our younger players. Tough, but them’s the breaks….

  4. lionroars67-I think he has that extra bit of pace, and a wee bit something special about him, loads of improvement to come.Maybe this time next year? HH

    COMMENT ON GLEN GIBBONS ARTICLE

“I rarely read the Scotsman – I comment on stories even less. This Glenn Gibbons seems to be a massive Celtic supporter. Not only does he mention Celtic three times, he then belittles the achievements of the Rangers manager – who, in my opinion has signed better players than any other SPL team . . . . . . . .

The use of the word “other” implies that the muppet making the comment thinks SevCo are an SPL team. As we all know, they have never been an SPL team, being a new company and club. SevCo obviously threatened to make public some dodgy photos of senior SFA people molesting goats in order to be admitted before they had 3 years audited accounts which would be a requirement for any other new company and club.

Good luck to The Hoops today, won’t be there due to work. Won’t even make any midweek games this year, so hoping and dreaming that we will still be in Europe after New Year when I will be OK for midweek.

I was just winding one up by text, asking him who’s top of the 4th tier, and who’s barely in the play-offs.

  7. Morning Celts,

I just heard that my wee Mum has been taken into Wishaw General after a heart attack, keep her in your prayers please if you are that way inclined and here’s me sitting in Switzerland with no passport at the moment.

    Feeling daft in the valley!

    Hail Hail

  8. Morning all, fairly happy with signings, proof will be in the pudding. Would have liked to have signed Russell but it seems 2 mil was too much for the club to pay.

I don’t really care what the orcs do or sign, Templeton (if he has signed) is wasting his future there and we’ll done Mcgowen for sticking to his guns.

    4-0 today

    Hail Hail

  9. Morning Bhoys.Happy with the signings last night with one more possible to come. I see Gary O Connor has said that we tried to get him on loan twice last night after we signed Miku.HH

  10. Morning bhoys, from a warm hun free mountain.

Very happy we addressed the CB and striker positions.

Still can’t help feeling a tad underwhelmed.

Intrigued to see who our out of contract signing will be, I’m told he is NOT someone “we’ll be familiar with” rules out a few names then!

Looks like it’s not Owen, McFadden or O’Conner then, thank goodness.

  13. RT

If we did not make it to the CL group stages then another big name would have been sold and nobody would have been brought in for real money.

Looking at GH or possibly VW.

If that hadn’t been enough then there would been another sale.

In 2010 we did not spend the AMcG money.

In 2011 we were a train wreck financially until the Sion nutter intervened.

In 2012 we could not spend because our financials are struggling.

We are where we are in spite of PL not because of him.

The CL is the key and to miss out in qualification for 3 years and handing the TFOD a financial lifeline in the process is down to him and his bonus driven decision making capabilities.

Have a good day to all Celts, if you want a laugh click on Sevco’s website and look at the first team squad, hilarious………….. now that is downsizing on a massive scale

  19. Looking forward to the game today. I hope young Watt receives a starting place, from the little I have seen , he looks very lively and has the ability to turn a defender and can keep his shots low and on target. Playing Tony will bring on Gary Hooper to a game.

    3-0 today.

Over at Sevco, the lack of experienced centre halves must be a worry, McCullough will be pulled back and once the injuries (we all know there will be no suspensions) kick in , then Sevco will literally limp out the league.

Not in favour of out right thuggery on the pitch (unless provoked) , the young Berwick lad however gave notice to Black that it is going to be tough down in Div 3.

Lack of signings for them now means Charlie must be creative or tell the truth to Sevco fans to gain support for the share issue, creative it is then!

“Would I be right in saying with that 1 signing last night we spent more than all the SPL clubs together, apart from the filth, during this transfer window?”

Yes, you would be right. “Undisclosed fee” is a world record.

  21. As someone else on here mentioned earlier this morning it is day’s like this when those of us who cannot get to Glasgow suffer real aching hearts.

Great week for the club.Delighted with the result midweek, delighted with the CL draw and to see Celtic back where we belong.Even more delighted for Neil on a personal level. It could so easily have turned in a different direction for him but now the possibilities are so exciting.

On the other subject clearly Sevco has a plan-probably a cash raising from the hordes- but remember we have still to see BDO in action, starting this month and the likely decision of the FTT ( HMRC ). More fun is on the way.

A year ago who would have bet on Celtic in the group stages of the Champions League and Rangers ( remember them ) in liquidation.

Final point.I read the piece about Glasgow finally recognising the impact upon the city of those fleeing Famine in Ireland.Long overdue and it will raise ,I believe,a few sore issues, not least of which was the role of the indigenous Scottish population.First references are about the generosity of spirit.I grew up with a singularly different interpretation of events so it will be interesting to watch the debate develop.

Good luck to the Celts today.Proud to be with you- in spirit.
