Celtic’s Fedur ready for Champions League challenge

750

If ever you needed a reason to convince you to ignore the vast majority of transfer speculation which inflicts football fans from May until 30 August, the signing of Miku Fedor is a gift.  Spanish football is suffering from the kind of economic wake-up call which makes it possible for aspirational Scottish clubs (I know there’s only one) to sign strikers first choice strikers.  Miku came through the scouting process last season and remained on the list but the deal had to be right.

25 goals in 85 games for a struggling team in the top league in the world (Exhibit A: Atletico) suggests we might have someone who will flourish on an acre of Glasgow and will bring experience and confidence onto the field when he faced Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.  The deal has the hallmarks of Peter Lawwell’s try-before-you-buy policy.  Get them in on a loan with an option to buy.  If they are successful, do the deal, if not, you’re not stuck with Ulrik Laursen breezing into training asking the other players how they got on at the weekend.

Right now the most important question is, what shape of team does Neil Lennon have in mind?  Miku plays through the middle and on the right.  He’s fast and he’s 6’1”.  Have we bought a someone to play on the right of a front three?  Perhaps, but with circa 15 first-choice midfield players to accommodate the plan is surely more complex.

More on this when we have a quieter moment, I’m off to bed to forget all apache command line prompts until January.  We’ll talk goalkeepers over the weekend.

With Izzy clearly struggling to regain his level of peformance of 2 seasons ago, I was surprised Lenny sent young Blackman to ICT.

Hopefully the short (5 month) term it indicates that Lenny just wants the kid to play regularly to help him develop.

    We’ll see.

Celtic to qualify from group G.

Looking at the group, if we take Barca as a given to qualify, there is one spot left.

I don’t see much between the 3 of us and was expecting 5/2 tops.

I am astonished to see us at 6/1 with 2 bookies, this is an outstanding price.

Also v Benfica, at home, 11/4? Another huge price.

English based bookies tend to dismiss us, take advantage of their arrogance.

Elsewhere, a wee bit of youtube scouting this morning on Ambrose and Fedur. Not a great deal of footage on either but from what I saw:

Ambrose wins headers and finds his man with a 10 yard pass. First base for a central defender. We’ll see if he has good game sense in due course.

Fedur is dramatically direct, right through the centre. He is rarely wider than the 18 yard box, and every goal I saw was a clinical finish. He doesn’t do sclaffs or swipes. Great technique every time. Looks pretty fast over 10 yards too. Interesting one.

Looking forward to the top of the table clash today, particularly to see what Tony Watt can do over 90 minutes at Celtic Park. His TV interview on BBC Sport’s pages revealed a well grounded and impressive young man. good luck to him.

I have a great deal of time for Charlie, but he’s very uncomfortable at left back.

South Of Tunis – if you fy with TAP take a tip from me and check in online. They tried to deny me check in once because there’d been an overbooking. They told me to come back at a certain time which happened to be after check-in would have closed. Legally they have to check everyone in and then decide who boards and who gets bumped with compensation.

(I made a complaint at their information desk and was then allowed to check-in as normal but I was a bit upset at the time.)

#Celtic: Forster; Matthews, Lustig, Wilson (c), Izaguirre; Forrest, Wanyama, F. Twardzik, McCourt; Watt, Hooper. (LB)

  12. Chaz is a very versatile player. LB suits him better than CH imo because when played at CH he doesn’t have so many opportunities to use his creativeness.. its like a handicap to him.

Remember the 6-0 humping of Killie at Rugby Park when he scored two and got two assists in the first half last season?

    Played left back…

  13. Forster; Matthews, Lustig, Wilson (c), Izaguirre; Forrest, Wanyama, F. Twardzik, McCourt; Watt, Hooper.

subs: Zaluska, Commons, Slane, Irvine, McGregor, Chalmers, Fraser

A lot of uncertainty about how we’ll manage at the back, but a very good team nonetheless.

  14. Part of Hearts statement on the sale of Templeton:

“We did not want to sell him but there was no reason to keep him as his mind and heart was not with Hearts and in January he could sign a pre-contract and walk for free in summer.

Rangers were the only club where this option was not available due to a transfer ban, so they offered money for Templeton. All other clubs were sitting in the bushes to take him free in January.”

Charlie’s positional sense at LB is poor and he gets done for pace there too

    Much better CM IMO

Hopefully he progresses but I don’t see what Lennon or the scouting team seen in him. Seems unbalanced and defensively naive.

Anyone know how to get past the BBC IP address block? I am in Israel just now but in the past I have connected through my VPN to my companies UK server. Normally that fooled it so I could listen to the commentary. However doesnt seem to be working any more?

    Big G,

is that the best you can do, really

so, rather than respond to my points, you decide to bring in your family and try to attract sympathy on the most basic level, hoping its enough to distract people from my argument. how sad, you need your BED, and I look forward to your apology in the morning, after you reread this DISCOURSE.

I can take it better than most, but when its an sanctimonious assasination on the back of your own ignorant interpretation of just about everything I say (a bit like bjmac) then I really really dont see the point in further INTERCOURSE.

Take your opinion and RAM IT, or pay attention and deal with the argument, oh wait, its a personality thing innit, your just jealous cause you dont have one :oD))
