Celtic’s Fedur ready for Champions League challenge

If ever you needed a reason to convince you to ignore the vast majority of transfer speculation which inflicts football fans from May until 30 August, the signing of Miku Fedor is a gift.  Spanish football is suffering from the kind of economic wake-up call which makes it possible for aspirational Scottish clubs (I know there’s only one) to sign strikers first choice strikers.  Miku came through the scouting process last season and remained on the list but the deal had to be right.

25 goals in 85 games for a struggling team in the top league in the world (Exhibit A: Atletico) suggests we might have someone who will flourish on an acre of Glasgow and will bring experience and confidence onto the field when he faced Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.  The deal has the hallmarks of Peter Lawwell’s try-before-you-buy policy.  Get them in on a loan with an option to buy.  If they are successful, do the deal, if not, you’re not stuck with Ulrik Laursen breezing into training asking the other players how they got on at the weekend.

Right now the most important question is, what shape of team does Neil Lennon have in mind?  Miku plays through the middle and on the right.  He’s fast and he’s 6’1”.  Have we bought a someone to play on the right of a front three?  Perhaps, but with circa 15 first-choice midfield players to accommodate the plan is surely more complex.

More on this when we have a quieter moment, I’m off to bed to forget all apache command line prompts until January.  We’ll talk goalkeepers over the weekend.

They are asking for the connections to be updated. That is going to be tempting. I wonder how I will get the pope in there.

  6. A very happy birthday to Bundoran Bhoy, a great CQNer and a fine man.

Still can’t believe he’s the younger brother though :-)

Can’t say I liked it but I did enjoy chilling out in the enormous [ and quiet] Botanical Gardens [ Vladykino Metro]

  8. As someone who would probably be on the mineshafter side of the arguement, i am quite satisfied with the business done, goalkeepers, defender and striker who looks to have good stats playing for an average team in a top league to coin a new phrase “fletchesque”.

I think its been a great weeks business, one of the best ive known

-Got rid of deadwood and saved wages, long overdue imo

-Sent others on loan and if they do well can get back in at the end Bangura hopefully!!!

-Sold a fringe player for £6m+

-Qualified for CL and banked cash while restoring pride 4 good wins

-Brought in young players who are doing themselves proud, with breathing space to perform well.

Now all we need is that out of contract player – what about Juan Riquelme 4years younger than ADP, and has seen what we are about when playing for Villareal, surely worth a punt….

At this stage i am in danger off falling over the fence and becoming a happyclapper, only Sydney Tom can save me!!! Can’t wait to see the teamsheet today.

  11. Rubicon……apt name. ‘Rubicon’ was one of the best telly shows I’d seen for a long time….it took paranoia to new heights, but nothing could compare to the madness manifesting itself in the hun hive-mind. They are going to start eating themselves any day now.

And when the full impact of their situation dawns on them I expect some of their wee blue heads to literally implode as their insanity will have nowhere left to go.

Glasgow’s Green and White, and that is driving them bonkers…..considering Whyte & Green are ripping them off upfront, right in their faces and there is zilch they can do about it.

Inside, they are screaming. I can hear it. And that’s not paranoia. That’s reality.

  12. As the blog was down last night, I stuck SSN on to see what was happening.

I really wished I hadn’t bothered, it was brutal.

Anyways, they kept saying that Swansea had broken their club transfer record when the signed a dude from Valencia for 5.5 mill.

I thought Ki cost more !

    Or am I wrong ?

Or lazy jurnos as usual ?

    Haven’t read back…

Unsurprisingly conservative approach to Transfer window – led by a strategy pinned to RFC fortunes…No way we will spend while Hunco languish in leagues below us.

I had a faint hope that we would use some of the income Ki + CL money to speculate a little.

Would be nice to have clear green watter between us and Hunco when they return but I fear we will wait for them to catch up.

    Lack of ambition.

  15. Celtic offered to sign ex-Scotland striker Garry O’Connor on loan on deadline day, he said Saturday. The Scottish champions signed forward

Miku from Getafe on Friday, with coach Neil Lennon saying the move came about because Celtic had little squad depth up front.

“I can confirm that Celtic failed to get me out on loan last night,” O’Connor said on Twitter.

“They made 2 attempts 2 sign me a few hours after signing Miku from Getafe.”

  16. Mr X loves having a "fly kick" on

Stuart Dougal on radio Scotland “Hugh Dallas was arguably the best referee in the world”!

So there you have it. Not the best in Bonkle. Not the best in Scotland. But the world.

  17. Quite brilliant analogy by Stuart Dougal on the oldco/newco situation.

Simply, as he told his Rangers supporting friend Ann Crystal- it is like when you got married, you changed your name but you are still the same person.

Ahh I get it now, Stuart.
