Celtic’s Fedur ready for Champions League challenge

750

If ever you needed a reason to convince you to ignore the vast majority of transfer speculation which inflicts football fans from May until 30 August, the signing of Miku Fedor is a gift.  Spanish football is suffering from the kind of economic wake-up call which makes it possible for aspirational Scottish clubs (I know there’s only one) to sign strikers first choice strikers.  Miku came through the scouting process last season and remained on the list but the deal had to be right.

25 goals in 85 games for a struggling team in the top league in the world (Exhibit A: Atletico) suggests we might have someone who will flourish on an acre of Glasgow and will bring experience and confidence onto the field when he faced Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.  The deal has the hallmarks of Peter Lawwell’s try-before-you-buy policy.  Get them in on a loan with an option to buy.  If they are successful, do the deal, if not, you’re not stuck with Ulrik Laursen breezing into training asking the other players how they got on at the weekend.

Right now the most important question is, what shape of team does Neil Lennon have in mind?  Miku plays through the middle and on the right.  He’s fast and he’s 6’1”.  Have we bought a someone to play on the right of a front three?  Perhaps, but with circa 15 first-choice midfield players to accommodate the plan is surely more complex.

More on this when we have a quieter moment, I’m off to bed to forget all apache command line prompts until January.  We’ll talk goalkeepers over the weekend.

Starry Plough prayers for your Mum, hope she will be fine.

Off to Tokyo via Dubai shortly so will miss the game, would love to see Watt and Hooper start together today, give the bhoy a chance to shine at Celtic park.

Wilson was tremendous on Wednesday, in fact he has been solid all season, Paul Elliot had a ‘mare of a first season with us, hopefully big Kelvin will turn out the same, he has to play today.

Samaras needs a rest after his efforts midweek with a hip injury so will be interesting to see the team, might not get it till Dubai unless Emirates has installed Wi-Fi on flights, I live in hope!

Mon the Hoops! 3-0 today with the promise of the new signings to come into the team after the international break.

Apparently the out of contract striker is a name we are not familiar with.

  5. Starry Plough,

My own Faith is not very strong so I will just commend your mum to the care of the Saint of the Day for September 1…………

Despite the fact that much about St. Giles is shrouded in mystery, we can say that he was one of the most popular saints in the Middle Ages. Likely, he was born in the first half of the seventh century in southeastern France. That is where he built a monastery that became a popular stopping-off point for pilgrims making their way to Compostela in Spain and the Holy Land.

In England, many ancient churches and hospitals were dedicated to Giles. One of the sections of the city of Brussels is named after him. In Germany, Giles was included among the so-called 14 Holy Helpers, a popular group of saints to whom people prayed, especially for recovery from disease and for strength at the hour of death. Also among the 14 were Sts. Christopher, Barbara and Blaise. Interestingly, Giles was the only non-martyr among them. Devotion to the “Holy Helpers” was especially strong in parts of Germany and in Hungary and Sweden. Such devotion made his popularity spread. Giles was soon invoked as the patron of the poor and the disabled.

Now, what about this. Our reporter Brian McLauchlin has found out that the Scottish Football League’s computer to register players crashed at 23:55 BST.

Therefore, Hearts and Rangers are unclear whether the David Templeton deal has gone through…

  8. If the SFA hadn’t moved to Hampden we could have called it “Park Garden Gate”

Or maybe we should just have the Scottish suffix for scandals. Instead of gate we should use ‘window’.

We could call this one ……SashWindow!

    Forster

    Matthews Rogne Wilson Izaguirre

    Forrest McCourt Wanyama Mulgrew

    Commons

    Watt

Lustig to replace Matthews second half.

Left side probably doesn’t suit Kelvin ….much better as right side partner methinks

so Chic at the back for me

I feel ghoops still needs game -time and Kris can slot in left side moving into the ‘hole’ as required

that allows you to play both ghoops and fafa fafa fa fa fa fa Tony Watt from the off :-)

Would have Filip Twardzik in for Paddy with option to bring him on at some point and rest someone when the game is won.

Other than that we agree on the team for the day lol

  14. Morning Champs,

I haven’t been on much for a while for various reasons, I trust the mood is good these days :)

Starry Plough, best wishes to your mum. I know how horrible it is to be stuck abroad when a loved one is ill. Stay strong.

Blantyretim and Oldtim, it was really nice to meet you two before the game on wednesday. Deborah really enjoyed her first time at CP and wants to come with me everytime now. I’m not sure how happy I am about that tbh but anyways. I hope you lads enjoyed the night.

Finally, I spotted this in the Irish Times today. It will be of interest to those hoping to see a way out of the SPL for Celtic:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2012/0901/1224323462066.html

  15. MadMitch – there is no doubt that mistakes were made at Celtic and I don’t know enough about Pete Lawwell to have an opinion on what drives him. In any other walk of life other than Celtic my instinct is to question everything the money men do and their motives for doing it. Celtic I hate to say skew my thinking.

So, I suppose I am saying I think it is more complex than laying the blame at Lawwell and the PLC board – although i think they misread the signs big style at crucial times in the last 3 years I think they were trying to do the right thing.

I think also that they were really taken by surprise in 2008 when the orcs splurged after Kaunus. Celtic knew the trouble they were in and decided to play safe. We lost the league narrowly and threw away a significant lead in the race.

And we should not forget that the team who won the league that year were in large part financed by EBT’s. The whole point of our anger at rangers situation is that they won leagues while gaining a financial advantage by stiffing the tax payer. We can’t blame PL for that can we?

As for where we are now, it’s a good place, I think we managed the transfer window very well, we have started recruiting good young talent and have one or two coming through the ranks as well. Not the worst place to be and I am not sure we simply ‘blundered’ in to it with no input from all of the main names inside Celtic.

Haven’t been to Moscow for a while but the visa trick used to be book a 5 star hotel (don’t pay for it till you check in ) like kempinski and they’ll do visa for you then cancel hotel and get one you can afford.

  17. As much as I don’t want to be controversial…….being an expert on the rules and regulations of windows, transfer, sash, sliding and bay my speciality…….the computer has nothing to do with anything.

Emails and computer records are immaterial and unofficial.

All that needs to work is the fax machine. Documents and facsimile versions with timestamps – not bits, bytes and magnetically encoded – are the instruments that must be in the possession of the authorities by the various deadlines.

There is no conspiracy……unlesssomeone turned on the fan and they blew out the window.

That would make the scandal Windowwindow!

  18. Off to watch my second team (Rotherham United) shortly – playing at the brand new New York Stadium v Bradford City (a local-ish derby!) – in about half an hour.

Pre-match build up at the Rhinoceros in central Rotherham – good craic! Quite a few Celtic fans follow The Millers – own CSC (Rotherham CSC) run from The Wilton, in Kimberworth, Rotherham. Any of you ever in this area – you’re MOST WELCOME!

My heart however will be at CP – for our beloved Hoops v the Hibees.
