Celtic’s Fedur ready for Champions League challenge

750

If ever you needed a reason to convince you to ignore the vast majority of transfer speculation which inflicts football fans from May until 30 August, the signing of Miku Fedor is a gift.  Spanish football is suffering from the kind of economic wake-up call which makes it possible for aspirational Scottish clubs (I know there’s only one) to sign strikers first choice strikers.  Miku came through the scouting process last season and remained on the list but the deal had to be right.

25 goals in 85 games for a struggling team in the top league in the world (Exhibit A: Atletico) suggests we might have someone who will flourish on an acre of Glasgow and will bring experience and confidence onto the field when he faced Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.  The deal has the hallmarks of Peter Lawwell’s try-before-you-buy policy.  Get them in on a loan with an option to buy.  If they are successful, do the deal, if not, you’re not stuck with Ulrik Laursen breezing into training asking the other players how they got on at the weekend.

Right now the most important question is, what shape of team does Neil Lennon have in mind?  Miku plays through the middle and on the right.  He’s fast and he’s 6’1”.  Have we bought a someone to play on the right of a front three?  Perhaps, but with circa 15 first-choice midfield players to accommodate the plan is surely more complex.

More on this when we have a quieter moment, I’m off to bed to forget all apache command line prompts until January.  We’ll talk goalkeepers over the weekend.

    On the BBC website last night, they stated that the computers had crashed at either the SFL or SFA, cant remeber which.

    This to me, stinks to high heavens.

    In my opinion, this transfer had not taken place, and this is a blatant fabrication of the truth, in order to allow the transfer to take place after the deadline had passed.

    Now, what about this. Our reporter Brian McLauchlin has found out that the Scottish Football League’s computer to register players crashed at 23:55 BST.

    Therefore, Hearts and Rangers are unclear whether the David Templeton deal has gone through…

  4. On the Sevco player recruitment drive, just where is AMcC getting these players from?

    They look like the Dirty Dozen of Euro nonentities and desperadoes looking a for a gig from anyone.

    I struggle to see how some of them have an agent.

    Given some of their CV they would take a game anywhere.

    That could be TFOD Mk2 / Berwick / Cambuslang / Kilsyth ….

    Why isn’t he doing a trawl of the lower divisions for local journeymen with a pedigree and appetite to get them out of the lower divisions?

    Strange, very strange.

  5. Someone at the bbc is not on-message. Surely it was the company that previously ran rangers that is being liquidated. From the Templeton article:

    “reformed Rangers after the previous incarnation could not be saved from liquidation”

    Good to see you taking an active involvement in the grass-roots,even better that you are spreading the gospel down there.

    When I flick through the sports sections of the Oxfordshire/Wiltshire newspapers printed by the company I work for,I am always astounded by how many minor-league teams wear the hoops.

    Maybe because in the West of Scotland they are so few and far between!

    BTW,I was in The Tap and Barrel last week-very disappointing turn out. Great performance though…

  8. If they can convince Paddy it’s safe to come out of the broom cupboard at Lennoxtown, my team for today would be similar to the one that played up at Inverness, with the exceptions of Rogne in for Wilson, and Commons instead of Hooper, playing behind Tony Watt.

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Forster :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

    Lustig ::::::::::::::: Rogne :::::::::::::::::: Mulgrew ::::::::: Izaguirre

    Matthews ::::: Wanyama ::::::::::::::::: Twardzik ::::::::: McCourt

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Commons :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Watt ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

    There were a couple of firsts in that game (Lustig and Matthews down the right, Vic and Filip in the middle). They did brilliantly well together, so it would be good to see how they perform on the home pitch.

    Meanwhile, Paddy and Izzy for me are one of our best options down the left (arguably better than Izzy and Sammi) with 7 games (a few of them outstanding such as last week and last season’s 2nd half v Motherwell (3-0)). Paddy’s been given a deeper position in recent games, which has meant fewer mazy runs, but has allowed his passing to become more influential.

    A repeat of Hooper and Watt may well be on the cards, but Commons is incapable of playing 90 minutes without a goal or an assist, ditto Tony Watt (just halve Commons’ time).

    Very sorry to hear about Dontbrattbackinanger’s loss. Hope you and your family are ok.

  12. Just watched Templeton’s interview……displayed all the qualities which will suit the Huns and not us ….never interested in him as a signing for us

    He’ll get kicked about like a used chip poke in div3

    Btw Huns have lost three of their first choice back four this window ….

    Again…..how are they affording to pay he wages

  13. I read that Mulgrew and Rogne are doubtful for today and Brown and Samaras will miss the match. It`s becoming difficult to predict the team.

  14. up-over-goal,

    Can’t even begin to see how you can say that McCourt and Izzaguirre are an arguably better pairing than Sammi and Izzi. Sammi, deservedly, was given a STANDING OVATION, when he went off on Wednesday. He must be the first name on the team sheet.

    Personally, I would start with Hooper too, who has been excellent in my opinion. By allmeans, bring on the lhad Watt.

    Kelvin Wilson, arguably, was our best defender on Wednesday. Why drop him? Put Rogne beside him and Mulgrew at LH, in place of Ledley.

  16. Hi all

    Interesting signings yesterday obviously hope they work out, on Templeton no true Celtic fan would ever sign for them in their previous or present form.He surely cannot be earning more than at hearts ,so what has he been told?

    Should the SFA force change to league structures there will be uproar again ,but do they care, not a bit 4th div players getting caps tell you, and they the SFA dont need to sell season books they will hope everyone will just get on with it.No chance

  17. Paul67

    Couple of thoughts on the financials – just when are they going to get published?

    My thoughts are the cash / debt position could be poor and so they were delayed to ease the pressure on the team for CL qualification.

    Are we trying to build a £10mill stash as our stake money for the CG upgrade?

    We need to put money in to unlock council cash and do joint ventures on a number of the proposals for the “Triangle”?

    Finally any thoughts on the T/O for the club in 2012/13?

    Will we beat £65mill or are we good for £70mill?

    As always this does not include one off events like transfers.

  18. PFayr

    Watt is playing better than nearly everyone, and Commons is playing better than Hooper. It would also give us the chance to see how Tony does in a 4-4-1-1 (4-2-3-1, or what you will).

    By the way, I expect to see Izzy continue his improvement today. Key player for me.

    Good morning fellow Celts from grey drizzly Renfrewshire

    Looking forward to getting along to the park today -hoping to see more of the young bhoys at some point but we will need to be fully focused to beat Hibees. Saw them v Buddies a few weeks back, they have a few players who can hurt us if not awake to the sharp diagonal ball to Leigh Griffiths hovering at our right back/right channel zone (inside or outside)

    We should have more than enough tho’

    Delighted we have added to the squad and any La Liga striker with double digit scoring record must be worth a shot (can he get his napper on the ba’ ?) Well done the recruitment team!

    Surprised there was so much negativity last night and suspect a few sherbets in the mix …but maybe not… some people will never be happy and glad I can see the positives because it makes me feel good about my team and looking forward to a very enjoyable season

    I’m happy -happier than I’ve been in a long time with the progress at CP

    When I compare to any Sevco equivalent (I use the term in it’s loosest context..) I’m ecstatic!

    BTW I’ve discovered calling them Sevco,,,,seems to annoy beyond measure.It hits the spot more than any other jibe/barb/GIRUY

    Enjoy the game

  20. Hopefully today will round off a momentous week for Scotland’s European elite side, remember it was only 7 days ago that Mo Bangura was vandalising the advertisement hoardings, now he has gone (hopefully to rediscover his form- I have my doubts mind you) and we recruited have what sounds like a proven goal scorer from La Liga, and a promising centre brick sh-house of a centre back.

    Bonus balls are the rise and rise of Tony Watt and hopefully the belated arrival of Kelvin Wilson.

    In all, well pleased at the transfer window, secured a brilliant young goalkeeper in FF, and only Ki gone (out of the first squad), sorry to see him go but we had to cash in. Marvellous stuff.

    Gutted at missing the game on Wed, only saw it for the first time last night and a very mature, assured and professional job was done.

    Sammi easily MOM, in some ways I’m glad Sammi has the rough edges to his game because if he didn’t he would be plying his trade at the very highest level of European football, I trust the last of the Sammi-sceptics have finally accepted him, he will be a massive player for us in the CL.

    Hope and expect to see a few players rested today, they have earned it.

    COMMENT ON GLEN GIBBONS ARTICLE

    “I rarely read the Scotsman – I comment on stories even less. This Glenn Gibbons seems to be a massive Celtic supporter. Not only does he mention Celtic three times, he then belittles the achievements of the Rangers manager – who, in my opinion has signed better players than any other SPL team – including Celtic’s ‘loan’ signing as a third division club. He then warbles on about how well Celtic did beating Helinsborg – hardly man u is it – and then has a go at the Scotland team. Does he support the Reublic of Ireland as well as Celtic then ? Bad journalisim and his editor should be reprimanding his bias as before now i saw the Scotsman as a fairly unbiased publication.”

    Few years since I took my eldest to his first game – I think he was the fourth generation of my family to have stood on the sacred ground. Immense feeling.

    Just heard his phone ringing this morning. Ring tone? The Celtic Song. Brought a lump to my throat!

  23. Up over goal

    Playing Watt on his own puts too much pressure on him …Watt had a good game lady Saturday …his only full game of the season…..and …I thought that he was helped considerably by Hooper

    Mmm ——-for what it is worth .

    Why do we need 3 goalkeepers?

    Efe Ambrose ——- I know zilch—- I will therefore reserve judgement.

    Miku Fedor ———- I have seen him [ in the flesh and on tele ] —– I saw him score against Villareal —- He looked to be a player but my Atletico supporting pal who lives in Getafe thinks this —–” occasionally very good, mostly average and occasionally very bad ” –We’ll see

    This morning’s Del Piero ramblings ——-

    Sydney FC / Braga / Spurs/ Southampton . Not a quote in sight..

    Hope Neil Lennon is working on that big space / gap between the defense and the midfield. We ‘ll mostly get away with it in Scotland but any half decent European team will exploit it to the max — Helsinki / Helsingborgs were not good enough to be half decent..

    Going to Catania tomorrow —– Catania v Genoa.
