Celtic’s Fedur ready for Champions League challenge

750

If ever you needed a reason to convince you to ignore the vast majority of transfer speculation which inflicts football fans from May until 30 August, the signing of Miku Fedor is a gift.  Spanish football is suffering from the kind of economic wake-up call which makes it possible for aspirational Scottish clubs (I know there’s only one) to sign strikers first choice strikers.  Miku came through the scouting process last season and remained on the list but the deal had to be right.

25 goals in 85 games for a struggling team in the top league in the world (Exhibit A: Atletico) suggests we might have someone who will flourish on an acre of Glasgow and will bring experience and confidence onto the field when he faced Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.  The deal has the hallmarks of Peter Lawwell’s try-before-you-buy policy.  Get them in on a loan with an option to buy.  If they are successful, do the deal, if not, you’re not stuck with Ulrik Laursen breezing into training asking the other players how they got on at the weekend.

Right now the most important question is, what shape of team does Neil Lennon have in mind?  Miku plays through the middle and on the right.  He’s fast and he’s 6’1”.  Have we bought a someone to play on the right of a front three?  Perhaps, but with circa 15 first-choice midfield players to accommodate the plan is surely more complex.

More on this when we have a quieter moment, I’m off to bed to forget all apache command line prompts until January.  We’ll talk goalkeepers over the weekend.

  1. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

Excited by the prospect of our new signings and wondering whether they will make the grade.

    Hibs to the lash today.

Hopefully, Tony Watt will make an appearance.

    Lots to look forward to.

    Great to be a Tim.

    Hail Hail.

Can`t help feeling sorry for bournesouprecipe`s miserableists.

And,cant help wishing they would keep their misery to themselves.

  3. That article about Tom Watts is quite moving. What a grounded young man he is, hope he goes on to be a Celtic great.

Glasgow plans tribute to settlers who fled famine.

    Now,there`s a turnup.

I`m tempted to throw in some sarcasm, but will refrain.

    Late is better than never.

  5. Tom += Tony (I used to work beside a guy called Tom Watts, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!)

  6. Valentine's Day on

Good morning from a damp Paisley.

Far to much doom and gloom on here deary me

we are in CL or did I just dream it some folk honestly.

  7. The squad to take us through C/L has now been set with a maybe on another striker

    G/K:

    Forster, Zaluska, Kamenar

    Def:

Matthews, Izzy, Ambrose, Wilson, Mulgrew, Lustig, Rogne

    Mid:

Brown, Commons, Ledley, McCourt, Kayal, Forrest, Wanyama

    Fwds:

    Samaras, Stokes, Hooper, Miku

    21 players

We have some exciting youngsters pushing for a place led by Tony Watt, McGeouch Twardzik, Chalmers, Slane all featuring in 1st team squads

We know this squad is the best in the SPL, can we qualify for the C/L? cant wait to find out, battle of the Greens today, but before that help for the wee Oscar campaign, another great day out at paradise

  8. Ulrik Laursen….poor choice …a much better player than a reasonable proportion of recent signings…Bangura ,Murphy,Juarez,Blackman,Rasmussen ..and others

Not a great transfer window…too many going out …including loanees the squad must be down nearly 15 players…hopefully the youngsters ( those not loaned out) are up to it

Second home game of the season and apart from Vic heaven knows who’ll play at CM….we have a CL game in two and half weeks and have the team are injured

The squad is too small now IMO…particularly when the injury records of Rogne,Kayal,Brown etc are considered

Assuming Ki was sold to balance th books ..CL money was a real bonus as most of it has been trousered

Btw ..if we are in such a perilous financial position why is our CEO still getting paid such a fortune ….seems he gets paid whether the football is good or bad and now even if the financials are poor he stills get his substantial wedge … Great job he has ….paid regardless of performance

  9. My team for today would be

    Forster, Matthews, Wilson, Rogne, Izzy

    Forrest, Wanyama, Mulgrew, Commons, Samaras

    Hooper

    Charlie into midfield beside Wanyama

  10. Morning all from a coooling Chilterns…

Interesting tranfer window, guess we had to wait till the CL qualification was done but a frantic last day is an odd way to do business.

That said and with all the marquee talk coming to nought, we need to ask ourselves who were Wanyama and Kayal.

    So

With Lenny’s track record we must be excited about these prospects.

This morning somewhere in the Eastend of Glasgow a wee bhoy is going into his Dad’s room after discussing the window with his big bro…

Yes Dad he said we have sorted all the important positions, we have Miku an International striker, that big Nigerian F@#%&r and Fraser on a permanent who is going to be world…

    WHoa! Whoa! Whoa!.. Who?

    Foster the goalie

    No before that

Ooh! Miku fast, great technically a Ven…

    Nuh! After him.

Oh the big Centre Half, he’s awesome Nigerian international, he says we’ve got the big African Efa, but I know what he meant.

Welcome to all the new bhoys, enjoy your Celtic career, the class of 2011 will take some beating, but I hope you all excell.

    BillyConnellyCSC

  11. Lionroars

One up front against Hibs at home ?

I’d imagine that th team am y be similar to last Saturdays …Izzy might be carrying a knock from that tackle on Wednesday …also Sammi seemed in some discomfort as he came off on Wednesday

I’d play Watt …bhoy deserves a start after last week

    You are welcome. HH

Morning all, I’m feeling really good today. It’s a lovely morning in the beginning of September. We’ve just signed 4 players during this window (don’t forget Forster) and their’s another one coming on Monday. We’re playing champions League football up to Christmas at least and today we’ve got a top of the SPL clash with Hibs. Life is good. Really good.

Reality will only now start to dawn on the Sevconians of what their future holds. Years playing in the barren wastelands of Scotland in front of two men and a dog because their crowds will most assuredly die away when the adrenalin stops flowing. Years of football away form the world and european stages. Years of trudegry Years of purgertory. Yesterday was their nadir for the next few years. And do you know what? It was still too good for them. They are a bunch of horrible, lying, cheating. bar stewards who tried to shaft every club in Scotland for their own personal gain.

Everything that is good about our game is taking place in and around Paradise. Long may it continue. Let’s all enjoy it together.

  13. GourockEmeraldBhoy on

Good morning CQN from a miserable looking Gourock (fits in with some posters on here right enough)

Good window/bad window everybody has their opinion which is what it’s all about no….

Anyway, looking forward to taking my seat again to watch the bhoys hopefully take the points with another couple of Tony GigaWatt strikes.

Would take Owen on pay as you play only but can’t see that happening..

    KTF

  14. Pf. Fair point about Ki money. But to get none of the CL income to strengthen the squad makes me sick

  15. So another window slams hard shut. Although there appears it may be ajar slightly for a day or two.

Has it been a successful windy? I dunno!

Did we cover the positions we required to fill?

    Goalkeeper – Check

    Striker – Check

    Centre Half – Check

    Did we lose quality?

    Ki – Check

Do we know if we have brought in quality? Only time will tell (I refuse to look to YouTube for firm evidence).

I stand at this time on the HappyShafter fence until my optic nerve communicates the relevant info to my brain in order for HappyMineShating equations to be computed.

This could fall any which way.

  16. Morning all, and welcome back Paul!

You went awol again last night, so I went to bed early!

Would like to welcome all the new bhoys to CP, and wish them a happy and productive time with us!

  17. JEEZO

Fight in an empty hoose stuff last night.

Morning all ,I’m with BSR ,all ghuys named Brendan ARE moaning gits.

Hail hail have a nice day.

  18. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on

How sad am I…..couldn’t get onto CQN last night, and had listen to Radio Scotland majoring on sevco transfer market activity all night……they’re all in total denial …..sadly pathetic….now I’m up at this ungodly hour on a Saturday morning to read about our signing ……great stuff ..

How come the SFA had a system problem? with the bhun transfer only ….. is it at all possible that they broke all the integrity principles to allow the late signing of a player..?….the George Cadete situation in reverse…? ……it could only happen in this Country …….. Ah well, away to read back on last night’s deadline …….. Integrity = loaning a player to a team managed by butcher….

  19. For 100 days, not one drop of waft of alcohol has drifted past my twitching nostrils. Every morning before any alarm I’ve been up, buzzing like Lennox planning my day ahead with all sorts of exciting walks around cemeteries, art galleries, museums and virgin lands of Glasgows beautiful anatomy.

    Today is different….

The alarm shattered my clinch with a rather fetching Goldie Hawn, I switched it off, dozed off again and found myself in a half nelson with Donald Findley.

The alarm went off again….except t was the phone….my ‘pal’……”Don’t plan anything for today, can you drive for us?”

“Whit….do you what day it is?”

    “It’ll only be until 14.00’

“ok. I suppose I can just have a longer night then.”

“Don’t go daft…..Can you drive to Dundee tomorrow?”

    “You……You……”

    To be continued.

    Off to get van now.

    Hail Hail

  22. A Lorry Load of volunteers will be handing out 10,000 leaflets to day to help raise awareness of the Wee Oscar 4 Life bucket collection organised for Dundee home game on 22nd of September. Look out for our leaflets today and bring a couple of quid extra on the 22nd of September if it is within your means.

A big Wee Oscar 4 Life welcome to our new Bhoys who joined the club last night.

    Hail! Hail!

  23. I see team selections for today with no mention of Twardzik.

Really hope he plays as he looked a cracking prospect last week.

  24. I’ve changed my name to Brendan… o))

Estadio, take it easy today and enjoy your refreshment…

  25. CQN Saturday Naps Competition

Lads, for those who are in the CQN Saturday Naps competition, please go back and post your selection at the end of the previous article :

(“Ebe Ambrose gets deadline day drama underway”)

Alternatively, if you cannot access the previous article for any reason, then you can send me an email message with your selection to : fleagle29 at gmail.com

    All the best, fleagle

  26. David Templeton has “realised an ambition”

David no need to realise son, just be realistic, your now in the bottom tier of scottish football, playing for a club that IS struggling to pay its CURRENT bills including salaries,

    Has reality sunk in yet?

  27. MWD- young Watts getting all the plaudits (well earned by the way) but Twardzik showed great composure and ability in central midfield for the first half. He has “something” about him. Hope he gets another chance today and wish I’d planned things properly so I could be at the bloody game.

  28. Good morning friends from a very damp and grye East Kilbride.

Privileged to be going to Celtic Park in a few hours to watch our team of young Champions play.

  29. Morning Celts en route to the game, looking forward to seeing our new defender and striker in the Celtic team soon, I hope they improve the mix and expect they will.

    C’mon you Bhoys in Green!

  30. Great transfer window.

Offloaded about ten or more deadwood.

    Strengthened key deficient areas.

Augmented squad with good youngsters maturing from youth set up.

    Stabilised financial position.

We can put a differen Midweek and saturday team out.

    Good focus on youth

In the context of the environment this is good.

I appreciate that those on here who favour the sir david Murray school of finance might view it differently !

How many of allys 5 targets did he sign this week? I made it a net movement of minus 2 at ibrox this week.

  31. picked it somewhere in one of my rants last night Jobo..

will check as I dont want to change my pick..

  32. Sydney Tim said:

“Fair point about Ki money. But to get none of the CL income to strengthen the squad makes me sick”

I get the feeling that it doesn`t take much about Celtic to make you sick! I would be interested to see you mention more often what makes you happy (about Celtic).

    As regards our new signings.

We have a part to play as well in their prospects of success. If the first touch of either player is a simple, five yard pass, then there is no need for rapturous applause. No need, in fact, for any reaction at all at that stage. No need either for a negative groan if the first touch is bad (remember Henrik). In a nutshell: Give them time before making vocal judgement.

  33. 50 shades of green on

Seems to me the best news from f5 day was big vice staying ( and paddy ).

Dont imagine we will see any of the new bhoys today unless big EFE does the half time draw.

Like most folk on here i dont know to much about the newbies but in LENNY we trust so a warm Celtic welcome to you all.

Anyway have to go our wee team are of to dark and dismal larkhall this morning (wish us luck ). Then its off to paradise to see the hoops .

    Hail hail
