Champions!

1808

Congratulations to Ronny Deila, his players and supporting cast on becoming Scottish champions, season 2014-15.  The man from Norway has got his team playing flowing, attractive, football, he has improved players throughout the squad, and should be delighted with the shape of the club at the moment.

Congratulations too to the Celtic fans, who recognised the manager and team needed their support, which has been delivered solidly throughout the campaign.

I’m delighted for Aberdeen, who have matched Celtic toe-to-toe against the rest of the league.  It has been a stunning season for a team with comparatively meagre resources.  Motherwell were best of the rest for the last two seasons, but they were miles off the pace, and never reached the consistency of Aberdeen this season.

It’s four in a row for the third time in our history, matching Willie Maley’s team’s achievement in 1908 and Jock’s in 1969.

These are great times to be a Celtic fan, enjoy being champions!

That trio bowling at Close and Edrich is along with The Thrilla in Manilla the most visceral -but brilliant – sport I have ever watched. Or the 6-2 game now I think of it!

For me It had to be Ronny a young manager taking over in a new environment, if not I honestly think McInnes or Neilston of Hearts before Yogi

  17. Henke: Bitton has grown in stature over the year and is a quality player. I couldn’t understand why he didn’t play more at the beginning of the year. When he played the previous year he showed signs of class. Anyone know when his contract is up?

Leigh Griffiths is also worth a mention, scored some great goals at Hibs but didn’t get enough chances with us, initially. Now that he is playing regularly his confidence has clearly returned. Ronny has been an obvious factor in this.

Dena29: Are you over on the 24th?

  18. Gerryfaethebrig,

Lawwell strengthened Celtic in the last transfer window with GMS and Armstong. Good.

In the previous 3 transfer windows he weakened Celtic. Bad. Net result no CL qualification. £20M lost.

Lawwell has a decision to make this summer. weaken or strengthen the Celtic Team. I am not aware what the outcome will be. I suspect Ronny is not either. CL almost £30M at stake.

If we miss out next season on CL qualification, Lawwell will have cost the club £50M. Not good. If we make the CL qualifiers we put another £30M between us and the chasing pack which might include the Ibrox club.

The first test will be the position Lawwell takes on VIrgil. If as he states the deals are done on the last days of the Window, then hold onto VIrgil until the last day and help Ronny achieve CL qualification….then a decision can be taken to sell or not. Lawwell cannot have it both ways leaving deals to the last minute if we make it.

I have no personal axe to grind with Lawwell. I will view his actions buy or sell throughout the transfer window and judge accordingly based on facts. He either helps the Manager or ties one hand behind his back.

Lawwells renumeration package is set to different objectives to the Managers and he is the decision maker…..not the Manager.

I celebrated the title yesterday evening , so this season is over. It’s all about next season and it starts now.

Lawwell is the biggest risk to CL qualification and anybody who does not realise that is viewing the world thru green tinted spectacles.

I will watch the developments in the Celtic squad with great interest.
