Charlie is back, did he ever go away?

673

So Charlie’s back.  Did he ever really go away? I suspect not.  Sevco Scotland/The Rangers FC/Rangers International is Charles Green’s project.  He was the guy who picked the pieces up from the Rangers liquidator.

He was the guy, through liberal use of words like ‘bigotry’, ‘No surrender’ and ‘Dallas Cowboys’ managed to convince thousands of people to buy into a version of reality which convinced them to spend money.

He cut a deal with the compliant Ally McCoist to shift tickets in 2012, then did the same with Walter Smith in 2013, and co-opted a variety of flunkies to the cause along the way.  The £22m raised at an IPO was down to him.  No one else would have been able to achieve the latter feat, and he is needed again.

The move only appears audacious to those who have not been paying attention.  When Green bought Rangers assets two years ago, the game was up.  Those assets would be bled green, white and gold in order to provide as large a return on investment as possible.  Nothing has changed.

What is needed at Ibrox right now is someone to pitch up saying, “Bigotry, No surrender, forget what I said earlier, it’s the same club, now buy your ticket, you tell them Ally/Walter/whoever next”.  Charlie is perfect for this job.

The reality that existed pre-2012 is gone.  That club’s assets were bought from a liquidator and are now masquerading around the lower leagues of Scottish football.  Those who stepped forward, paid their money, and in doing so, actually gave thousands of people a club to support, are in charge – as is their right.

This is not a good thing if you have an affinity with that club, but it’s better than having Ibrox “razed to the ground” (remember Bomber Brown’s warning), so no matter what fans think of Charles Green, it’s time to accept his reality: Rangers were liquidated, fans were not organised, wealthy fans declined to step forward, the assets were bought by people who WILL make a financial return and Charles Green is one of the few people with an idea of how to deliver this.

I wouldn’t be joining the clamour for the hasty return, that’s for sure.

Healthy return, yes, but not hasty.

  2. Dreadful game. No excuse for how sloppy Nigeria were in passing. Odemwingie showed them how to play football but he had no one to play with.

Onazi plays for Lazio in Serie A, Mikel for Chelsea in EPL, Azeez for Almeira in La Liga, and Musa plays for CSKA Moscow. They all made Scott Brown look like Pirlo.

  3. Watching Pipers of the Trenches, sorry Efe but just humbled by these heroes, so often the Scots seemed to be first over the top following an unarmed piper.

    Absolute respect and Thanks.

  4. Re Tony Watt interview…

My abiding memory of the lad – Barca excluded- was at the St Johnstone game when the trophy was bejewelled g presented 2 years ago.

I had a hospitality seat and was walking across a crowded corridor by the Celtic Suite in the South stand.

Young Tony was there in his track suit gear and a guy asks “how are you today, Tony?”

“Not even on the fu**ing bench” he bawled across a very busy area.

There and then I thought we have a problem with this lad.

Somehow i hope it works out….the Scotzine interview does not suggest Tony has learned a lot.

  6. Poor game, but good result got me as I had Germany, Iran draw and USA draw.

Gives you something to look forward to esp if the game is dull.

Iran stuffy at the back, but lacking in basics. Shies, for example, were almost all foul shies.

Haven’t improved much in their forward play since the draw with Scotland. I well remember Eskandarian in that match !

Tony Watt has as much chance of a Celtic future as I have….. and I don’t even have a pair of football boots to my name!

Is Neil only in Brazil to slag off his ex-players? He had a good wee snigger at Sammy a couple of nights ago, and now Efe gets the butt of it.

Plenty other ex-Celts in the press happy to take a dig at our Bhoys – very disappointed that our recently-departed former seems to enjoy joining in. I remember him taking a right strop at Murdo, and other ex-players for a similar thing.

Not impressed. Not one wee bit.

Didn’t hear Neil’s comments tonight but I was surprised at some of his comments on Samaras.

Disappointed he feels the need to stoop to that level. Particularly as I didn’t think Samaras was the worst performer.

    *******

Since football began, up until recently, a throw- in was always referred to as a Shy.

I would suggest that it refers to a word to describe the act of throwing, e.g. A coconut shy(shie).

It is possibly a Scottish word, though the coconut version may also apply to England.

I think NFL is calling it as he sees it and is a fair and insightful pundit. Nobody likes hearing our players slagged off in the media but look at the slagging they get on here when they don’t perform.

Also, NFL knows better than anyone what they are capable of and he will be frustrated when they fall short.

    I don’t class Neil as a souptaker.

Was a bit disappointed in his targetting of Sammy (not that we don’t say worse here in the privacy of our own fandom), but tonight it was worse.

A wee snide giggle about Efe’s crossing ability “He doesn’t have the skill to cross the ball”, “His cross is like a pig’s tail” (curling and bent, I presume he meant), and “Why do you think I played him at centre-back”, all accompanied with a few wee sniggers with his new pals.

    Nope, not impressed.

The terms used in the North are identical to England.

When I referred to bye kicks and shies, or is it shys? they hadn’t a clue what I was on about.

I’ve heard them going on about a corner ball too instead of a corner kick.

    WTF is that all about?
