Charlie is back, did he ever go away?

So Charlie’s back.  Did he ever really go away? I suspect not.  Sevco Scotland/The Rangers FC/Rangers International is Charles Green’s project.  He was the guy who picked the pieces up from the Rangers liquidator.

He was the guy, through liberal use of words like ‘bigotry’, ‘No surrender’ and ‘Dallas Cowboys’ managed to convince thousands of people to buy into a version of reality which convinced them to spend money.

He cut a deal with the compliant Ally McCoist to shift tickets in 2012, then did the same with Walter Smith in 2013, and co-opted a variety of flunkies to the cause along the way.  The £22m raised at an IPO was down to him.  No one else would have been able to achieve the latter feat, and he is needed again.

The move only appears audacious to those who have not been paying attention.  When Green bought Rangers assets two years ago, the game was up.  Those assets would be bled green, white and gold in order to provide as large a return on investment as possible.  Nothing has changed.

What is needed at Ibrox right now is someone to pitch up saying, “Bigotry, No surrender, forget what I said earlier, it’s the same club, now buy your ticket, you tell them Ally/Walter/whoever next”.  Charlie is perfect for this job.

The reality that existed pre-2012 is gone.  That club’s assets were bought from a liquidator and are now masquerading around the lower leagues of Scottish football.  Those who stepped forward, paid their money, and in doing so, actually gave thousands of people a club to support, are in charge – as is their right.

This is not a good thing if you have an affinity with that club, but it’s better than having Ibrox “razed to the ground” (remember Bomber Brown’s warning), so no matter what fans think of Charles Green, it’s time to accept his reality: Rangers were liquidated, fans were not organised, wealthy fans declined to step forward, the assets were bought by people who WILL make a financial return and Charles Green is one of the few people with an idea of how to deliver this.

In my opinion Neil Lennon has taken his first, baby steps in following a long line of ex Celts who attempt to put the club in a bad light.

He spoke about Sammi and Efe in such a disparaging manner that I’d have expected the comments from a Hun.

    Thank God for wee Strachan.

  6. NL was on 5live today previewing today’s game and he was glowing in his praise for Efe.

Pains me to say it, but it does seem that way from what I have heard from him so far.

Sammi on Saturday and Efe tonight.

I was really disappointed, these guys helped him become only one of a select group to win 3 consecutive titles as manager of Celtic.

There are a few occasions where no Scottish clubs have had players at the world cup, but this is first World Cup ever, where only one Scottish club (Celtic) have provided players to national teams.

Clyde had 3 players at the World Cup in 1958.

It’s going to be another 4 years before they have a chance to better that record as I don’t think they have any this year.

The SMSM will be touting the new Clyde player/manager,for the next Scottish squad….

  15. Something obviously was out of kilter with NL’s relationship with the club over the last few months. He sounds like a different man now. Not happy with his comments about our players on nation-wide television. Disappointing, to say the least.

It was not his summarising. It was providing the one liners for a segment on Efe’s performance tonight.

Why did they highlight his misplaced crosses/passes?

Was it because his former manager was in the studio?

Why not Mickel, or any other player?

Neil Lennon participated in a denigrating cameo of a Celtic player, which was gratuitous and disrespectful.

All in aid of adding a bit of colour to a drab analysis of a drab game.

Doesn’t make Neil a bad person, just a budding TV pundit.
