Charlie is back, did he ever go away?

673

So Charlie’s back.  Did he ever really go away? I suspect not.  Sevco Scotland/The Rangers FC/Rangers International is Charles Green’s project.  He was the guy who picked the pieces up from the Rangers liquidator.

He was the guy, through liberal use of words like ‘bigotry’, ‘No surrender’ and ‘Dallas Cowboys’ managed to convince thousands of people to buy into a version of reality which convinced them to spend money.

He cut a deal with the compliant Ally McCoist to shift tickets in 2012, then did the same with Walter Smith in 2013, and co-opted a variety of flunkies to the cause along the way.  The £22m raised at an IPO was down to him.  No one else would have been able to achieve the latter feat, and he is needed again.

The move only appears audacious to those who have not been paying attention.  When Green bought Rangers assets two years ago, the game was up.  Those assets would be bled green, white and gold in order to provide as large a return on investment as possible.  Nothing has changed.

What is needed at Ibrox right now is someone to pitch up saying, “Bigotry, No surrender, forget what I said earlier, it’s the same club, now buy your ticket, you tell them Ally/Walter/whoever next”.  Charlie is perfect for this job.

The reality that existed pre-2012 is gone.  That club’s assets were bought from a liquidator and are now masquerading around the lower leagues of Scottish football.  Those who stepped forward, paid their money, and in doing so, actually gave thousands of people a club to support, are in charge – as is their right.

This is not a good thing if you have an affinity with that club, but it’s better than having Ibrox “razed to the ground” (remember Bomber Brown’s warning), so no matter what fans think of Charles Green, it’s time to accept his reality: Rangers were liquidated, fans were not organised, wealthy fans declined to step forward, the assets were bought by people who WILL make a financial return and Charles Green is one of the few people with an idea of how to deliver this.

Is wee Craigie still waiting to come out of the very rotten woodwork?

  2. Could anyone provide a link to the comments in praise of Celtic Park from various stalwarts of the game, please? They have been posted on CQN before,

  3. I have never been the first to introduce politics to the blog but this finding is so bizarre it does not serve anyone’s agenda.

It seems that 41% of Scots want to retain Trident if Scotland votes Yes in September as opposed to 37% who want it removed.

In England and Wales, the vote for retaining Trident in Scotland post-Independence was 26% in favour and 63% saying it should probably or definitely be moved following a Yes Vote.

Public opinion in Wales and England is favourably disposed to Scotland keeping the Pound and the Monarch.

Seems too many people, Scots included, view Trident as a good thing.

SFTB – I can think of two reasons for that apparently surprising poll result:

    1. Trident generates a lot of employment in Scotland;

    2. There’s a contradiction in saying you want to remove nuclear weapons, but you want to remain part of an alliance that retains nuclear weapons.

That`s the stuff. Thank you very much and now you can get back to nuclear shelter building or you could help Kev J count the season tickets.

Interesting stuff. I think it certainly highlights that political opinion in Scotland is anot as homogenised as many think. Also – ther result from England/Wales kinda makes some sort of sense – why would you leave your nuclear weapens in a country that’s just bumped you?! Maybe they’re worried we’ll turn ’em round and point ’em South! :-)))

Interesting indeed and easy to agree with. The SFA is still not fit for purpose and the people running it are still not capable. It is still an opaque institution that Scottish football fans distrust. The problem is – how can it be gotten rid of? It’s not alike it’s a fully publicly funded institution. It’s a private club effectively. Only way is to get inside and change from within surely?

  16. Lionroars

Aye but how much of what he did had the backing of all clubs?

One of the points in the main blog was that Celtic were unaware of an HMRC enquiry to the SPL about side letters in 2009 or 10.

I think most clubs feared the consequences for them of Rangers going belly up and tried it on for size so to speak.

It was only supporters’ reaction that forced a different result.

I’m not sure I buy into Regan ‘ s expertise.

He appears to have had no idea of SFA monitoring responsibilities on UEFA FFP for example.

    Auldheid,

……and it will only be the supporters who will effect change at the SFA.

The problem is that there is no forum that will unify the support of member clubs.

Also, as long as people attend SFA run competitions, the status quo will remain.

Auldheid you have diligently and expertly hammered away at this topic and without doubt been one of the leading internet bampots for change at the SFA

IMO Celtic and most of the leading clubs know everything there is to know, as do UEFA

The clubs must now clean up the SFA, there is no barrier apart from a discredited MSM, tomorrows chip wrappers are no real opposition to change

One avenue, that depends on the UTT result, will be how one club can run up a £70million tax bill under the supposedly watchful eye of a national association.

That the SFA and SPL were derelict in this respect will be an issue that will be hard to avoid. It already is but has had little focus placed on it but a UTT result for HMRC makes it harder not to investigate.

Yes – the issue is that they are accountable to no-one. That’s why they’re getting away with such corrupt practices. As you say, the only reason the new club ended up starting near (but not at) the bottom of the system was due to fan pressure. That shouldn;t be required – the SFA should have dealt with this honestly and transparently. They didn;t and the people who made the decisions are still there. They’re meant to represent all clubs in the Scottish game but are happy to accommodate one particular club by any means neccessary.

  25. Lionsroar67

I think there may have been varying degrees of involvement with some parties more interested in covering up than others.

    ————————————————————————–

Let’s think that through. UTT returns in favour of HMRC (eventually). First of all – who is going to insist the the SFA actually comment/investigate? Even if clubs, journalists and fans place pressure on them, they will state that they acted in good faith based on the information that was to provided to them at the time. That since then the rulebook has been altered to prevent the same happening again. That the upshot was that a new company had to be formed to accommodate the club called “Rangers”. That it has been operating for a matter of years and fulfilling fixtures. Nothing to see here. Move on folks…no?

  27. I think the point I’m trying to make is that there is no-one to call the SFA to account – they are accountable only to themselves.

Not attended away league games or SFA national team for many years now, as the SFA executive became openly blatantly corrupt and bias (President Peat jumping out his seat at ole Ragers scoring against Celtic) the decline of the game in Scotland is directly related to the embarrassment of the clubs in allowing fools and imbeciles to run the SFA, I decided if the election of a corrupt President and committee is what the clubs of Scottish football elect ? they must be happy with that ! I withdrew my money, seems reasonable to me
