Ciftci, the bite and having his card marked

649

Starting with a blank sheet of paper and a player found guilty of biting an opponent, I’d struggle to justify a punishment less than 6 games.  It’s by no means the worst thing that happens on a football field, or the most dangerous, but it’s primitive, unhygienic and poses health risks.

Few of us have prior knowledge of Nadir Ciftci, so there’s little point in looking online for character references.  The player was charged with biting an opponent.  He denied the allegation but was found guilty by an SFA disciplinary panel yesterday.  I’ve seen photos of Jim McAlister’s bite-sized leg wound and have no interest in hearing mitigating comment about what happened during the Dundee derby.

Despite this, Nadir is having a good month.  He signed for Celtic, made his debut and potentially has five Champions League qualifiers to play between now and his domestic suspension concluding at the end of August (yes, six league games in August).  If he’s a clever guy, he’ll force his way into the manager’s plans for those five games and never look back.  If not, he’ll find his card marked, like a Dundonian leg.

The guilty in the Mc.Clean controversy are the Americans with their jingoistic adoration of their Flag and Anthem, with their ” America is wonderful” stance.

Where in the world do you see games between two club teams preceded with a Nationsl Anthem?

As a matter of interest, how many of the WBA team were actually British.

Sorry if I have stepped on precious toes, but I think the whole concept of Nationalism is offensive.

I believe in citizenship is more important than Nationalism.

    Any Dublin based guys

    This could be interesting

We are hosting a public debate on the merits of the 1916 Rising with two people with each on each on the opposing side of the argument. We’ve invited ex-republican prisoner Tommy McKearney and Daily Mail writer (and admittedly highly controversial) Ruth Dudley Edwards to head the debate.

We have our own strong opinions on the matter but we believe in facilitating honest and open debate on any matter and coming up to the Centenary we should be comfortable enough in our skin to have them with anybody.

It will take place Wednesday, July 29th @ 7:30pm in the Teachers Club (main hall) on Parnell Square. Entry will be free and all are welcome.

Be interesting to hear the arguments of Dudley Edwards, she is a bit demented but the way to beat these people is to reason and argue in a cool calm and rational manner

McKearney in fairness is very good at that

I am going to go,should be fascinating

  6. The euphoria of the SMSM at a 1-0 defeat knows no bounds.I read the Record report,as I just came in from a night out,and you would have thought Sevco were Barca.Absolutely murdered Burnley.Smooth, flowing football, played in a modern style.Burnley on the back foot for most of the game.Tactical genius from Warbs, sensational debuts from the great unknowns.

    Sevco 0 Burnley 1

  9. After the biggest hype ever put up by the SMSM,about the Warbs revolution, the massive uptake of STs,the ardour of the Hun hordes, who were just bursting to see Warbs Warriors in their first game, the added bonus of £10 admission money,to try and help the club out,the horded fairly answered the call.

    Off Att 22,000

    All things considered,they lost money.

Your opinion, and very welcome to it,but I am Scottish and very proud of it.My Father was Irish, and very proud of it.The heroes who died in 1916 ,I am sure were very proud to lay down their lives for the honour of being called Irish. The heroes who died in two world wars would have been proud to be called, whatever nationality they were.

I know the point you are making, but it really holds no water in the cold light of day.

Not getting into an argument with you,as I am not really capable, but I will wish you a good night.

  11. Recently endured a talk by Scottish Youth Football Association general secretary David Little.

Outlining his priorities he laid forth on his intention to tackle poaching of players at youth level. He then goes on to congratulate two Aberdeen teams who won Scottish Cup at their respective age groups. Not surprisingly both of these clubs actively target best players in opposition teams at every opportunity and promote poaching over coaching in my opinion.

Time for dinosaurs of scottish football at all levels to move on….. Problem is nobody wants to replace them so they cling on and reinforce the status quo…
