Big difference between Rodgers and Keiran Teirney. When Keiran tells anyone that Celtic are his first love and that Celtic’s result is the first one he looks for on a Saturday , he will mean it.

I fear Celtic fans who talk about seeing KT back at Celtic one day will be sadly disappointed unless he has a clause in his contract that we get first dibs at a fee not exceeding £10m

  2. Gutted that KT appears to be Arsenal bound.

Not too interested in the debate on whether it is the right move for him, only focussed on what is right for Celtic.

IMHO think we have undervalued him. Swansea sold Ollie McBurney to Sheffield Utd for only £5m less, let that sink in. A newly promoted club, who will likely go back down, paid 80% of KT’s fee for a dumpling that none of us would have near a Celtic squad never mind team.

I can buy into the Ajax model comparison, if and it’s a big if, we also followed their recruitment model, well scouted replacements brought in well ahead of selling your best players for top $

We clearly hadn’t replaced KT’s position adequately, why not wait a year until we had? We have already had the benefit of £18m from Dembele and £9m from Rodgers last season. Combined it more than protects us from a year without CL football.

Can anyone say we are stronger tonight than the start of the window?

We have lost Boyata, Benkovic, Lustig and now Tierney. Replaced by Julien, Bolingolo and Elhamed.

All for trimming a bloated squad & reducing loans but we have lost four starting XI players and replaced with 2.5.

Time to recover but we are in the hands of a DOF that has been recruited at the 11th hour on a fixed term contract until the end of the window, hardly the Ajax model….

Despite my ramblings, happy with the result tonight but we continue to look fragile away from home in Europe

  3. …then finishes the report with these words of encouragement for next week:

“Cluj have shown they know the way to goal on the road having scored in four of their last five away games in Europe including a double against Maccabi Tel Aviv last week.”

    `night all.

BBC ( Again !). Their report begins thus:

” Celtic survived a nervy night as they returned to Glasgow with an away goal and a draw from their Champions League qualifier with CFR Cluj.”

    ———————————

That’s the reporting you get when you live in fear of the manky mob.

    Turkeybhoy,

Yes BUT can’t we mourn the loss of a legend in the making?? For what £25 million, apparently we don’t need it so we have been told.

    Hail Hail

  6. A really battling performance gives us a decent away result in Europe. The result is tempered by the KT news.

I really don’t get folk who are saying thanks Keiran, you’ll leave a legend.

He’s a dyed in the wool Tim and he can only give us until he’s 22!!

Kenny Dalglish gave us more service and was truly world class. A Rangers supporter at that.

Yet he was reviled and hated when he left.

    I just don’t get it

  7. RE:KT to Arsenal

Surprised at some of the short sighted view on KT to Arsenal from so called Celtic fans.

While I loved him being at the club , I also understand that he has to maximize his talents so it is inevitable that he would head to the Premier league, and that is without even considering the financial aspects.

He is at a good age to move. I am thus saddened to see some Celtic fans wishing him to fail or putting him in the same bracket as BR, our erstwhile manager.

Personally I hope he tears up the Premier league and turns out to be one of the best defender in the league. If he succeeds then it will set a benchmark for us in the English top flight. Premier League clubs will no longer look down their noses at players at Celtic, which will mean that we will be able to get a better selling price for players.

For Celtic’s sake, I hope KT shines in his new league. We as a club are slowly bucking the trend, Dembele who now apparently is interesting Man U, and now KT.

Hopefully by the time Micky Johnston is ready to move on we will be talking about £35-40Million. We can’t compete with TV money down south, but we need to get full value for our assets and this will only happen if exports like KT shows that Celtic produce players that has the quality to easily cut it in the English top flight.

ALL THE BEST KT. MAKE US PROUD!!

  8. Go tell the Spartim on

What can you say about the BBC that’s not already been said, one of the bastions of bigotry in the UK.

    Just keep on winning Celtic

  9. Bada,

maybe there was a sell on clause and Arsenal met it,

maybe KT asked for a move given his injuries and treatment he gets in Scotland,

maybe PL is forcing him out the door,

none of us know ,but you are willing to lay the blame at PLs door,

    some things never change

  10. The bbc stats

6 bookings 3 for each side , yet no fouls that’s just lazy reporting

  11. Fool Time Whistle on

Our reception of Celtic TV was a buffered offering due to wifi issues at my end.

Any 1-1 draw away from home in Europe is perfectly acceptable.

The enigma that is James Forrest baffles the footballing universe again. Drifts aimlessly around then scores an excellent goal with his weaker foot.

Taking up the central role seemed to confuse the opposition, but due to our bad coverage I still don;t know if he drifted in on his won or if it was a tactical ploy by NFL.

If I was coach – it would be my masterstroke that sent him in there.

For those who write off Lewis Morgan or Boli Bolingoli – just remember how some of our past and current players started their Celtic careers. Ryan Christie was dismissed as too lightweight and unable to impose himself on other teams – now look at him.

I expect to see more of the Ryan Christie we’re been used to this season in the 2nd leg.

Tie not over obviously, and they will think they can perhaps sneak something at CP, but we were the better team tonight. Next Tuesday will be a huge test for our nerves but we should be good enough.

Emdy know how Pog got on?

    HH

  12. So (KT is dead to me)and yet it’s KTs loyalty that’s been questioned 😉

    Only on cqn

  13. Go tell the Spartim on

KT was nearly away last year as “confirmed” by Lennybhoy and Catman at the time, well according to the information they had so him leaving is no surprise, no doubt his career is on an upward spiral so good luck.

If he signs he’ll be an Arsenal player and of no interest any more.

  14. glendalystonsils on

    GORDYBHOY64

Some good points . I hope KT moves to Man City or Barca next and we get at least 15% of £90m.

It’s also quite possible that one more season in the SPFL could have seen KT’s career ended by the hammer throwers here.

  15. GORDYBHOY64 on 7TH AUGUST 2019 10:19 PM

I don’t think PL forced this,I believe it was the player.

That is why he has made no comment, for as the self elected heartbeat of the fans, then it makes him totally disingenuous.

Wants the money, but wants to retain the adulation. That does not equate,so be honest.

    Phil 01,

Let the support mourn a hero. Well get over it but f&#& it hurts.

  17. It will be interesting to see how KT develops, after this initial breakthrough I thought he stalled a bit though injuries might be the reason. He needed one more full season with us, no injuries.

I have my doubts he’s ready for the EPL.

  18. After the home game against the Estonians i posted that play had broken down 8 times in a 30 minute sub appearance with Lewis Morgan.

At half time in Estonia i posted that the first half looked like a competition between Lewis Morgan and Bolingoli as to who can give the ball away the most. Compared to the other 9 players who were playing at a good level it was obvious where our weaknesses were.

Before kick off tonight i posted:

Left side a bit of a worry, Bolingoli and Morgan, the two Celtic player’s guilty of giving the ball away most on the one side.

    Hopefully an improvement tonight.

Well they were worse than i expected. Players can put in an odd poor performance, these two players give the ball away about as much as the other 9 put together.

I’m sorry Bolingoli or Morgan simply won’t do in Europe, I’ve seen enough from both now, both will be fine against SPFL dross but you can’t simply give the ball away as cheaply and frequently without punishment.

Bolingoli did look a little more secure after Morgan was replaced as the synergy of the two was leaving us vulnerable again and again, a better team would have punished us more than once.

The rest of the team are performing to a good level so their are still positives. A new left back is now a priority and another centre forward is where I would splash money on to make sure of 9 in a row.

  19. Oddly, we were the only away team not to win tonight. Forrest gave a schizophrenic performance – scored a priceless away goal, but was culpable for the Cluj goal when he tracked Rondon, then inexplicably stopped running, leaving Mbombscare not knowing where the runner was.

I watched Ajax keep the ball from PAOK for most of the game last night. When we concentrated on passing, we did relatively well, but where we fell down was when we tried to dribble the ball past defenders. We need to keep Ntcham, need to fill a huge hole at left back and need another striker. Assuming we get by Cluj on Tuesday, tonight’s team would really struggle in Prague.

    IniquitousIV

  20. Can we just be clear about this: Bolingoli and Morgan won’t cut it.

    End of.

Not anywhere near good enough for Celtic!

    Prove me wrong.

  21. If KT is to go then the only positive is that we no longer have to have our stars prove themselves at Southampton first.

We’ve finally cut out the middle man.

I’m conflicted here though. I thought he was our successor to Daniel Fergus – but not when he does a “Charlie Nicholas”!

He could have been a modern day legend but has traded that in for money.

Stayed for much less than “real Rangers men” Murdo McLeod and Davie Provan- to name but two.

I enjoyed the game tonight but Boli reminds me of Efe, and not in a good way!

    New left back required!

9 in a row is now secured but we really need to improve our European status this year!

  22. glendalystonsils on

Morgan put in a reasonable performance but would be second choice behind Mikey Johnston for me every time , perhaps even third choice beind MJ and Shved.

He has an annoying habit of doing what Jamesie used to do after being nudged off the ball………sitting on his backside with his hands in the air appealing for a non-existent foul instead of getting on with the game.

  23. The result tonight helped ease the pain from my eye procedure today. I’m functioning like a pirate atm with a patch on one eye.

We didn’t play to our full capability with a couple of players MIA.

I hope Boli is a better player than he showed tonight.

Poor Morgan was out muscled and out maneuvered.

I don’t understand why we didn’t force feed Jameaie tonight.

He had the full back on toast whenever he had a run at him.

Ryan and Calum were not at their best either.

French Eddie has a great touch and control but he never seems to attack the near post ball, a place where a predator like Griffiths thrives.

Finally, not before time I hear.

We survived the departures of Gemmel, Hughes, Wallace, Jinky, David Hay, Dalglish, and even the King of Kings.

I’m sure another departure will just make room for another hero.

    Vale Bhoy,

I’ll quote you on this statemmet at the end of the season.

Boli 2nd half looked much better. As for Morgan, shrewd move by Lennon as Wee Mikey will tear them apart next week.

    Hail Hail

KT has gone , now we must stop the bleeding . Anyone casting envious eyes on Callum or big Kris can GTF.

We have all the money we need now to seriously improve the team.

    If we have the will.

Because neither will be anywhere near a successful Celtic team.

If either are still in the team you won’t need to contact me.

  29. does anyone really believe that KT was banging on the boardroom door demanding a transfer?

the board wanted him sold. his sale will fund our purchases and a tidy wee profit to boot.

another wee boost to the bank balance.
