Coaching, Brendan’s open canvass

580

Apologies for recent radio silence.  Lots going on with some weighty matters which will soon be of interest to you, unfortunately didn’t have time to blog for a few days.

So much going on simultaneously but I can’t really focus on anything with the daunting evening ahead tomorrow. Season Two of the Brendan Rodgers era will be considerably influenced by the events in Trondheim. Rosenborg are a shadow of their former glory, but Celtic must patch a team together and win (or secure a score draw) in Norway to reach the Champions League group stage.

Most Celtic fans I speak to expect us to win the game, but we’re an optimistic lot (cough). Let’s hope that’s based on sound reason.

I was surprised to hear Shaun Maloney has been speaking to Brendan Rodgers about a youth coaching role at Celtic. Shaun was a rare graduate of the Celtic youth system under Martin O’Neill, breaking through as an 18-year-old in 2001. He will also know more about Lennoxtown than practically any player, as he gorged on gym time there during lengthy periods of injury, while others were resting.

Does he have what it takes to be a good youth coach? This is a difficult one to answer. Look east. Ian Cathro had an exemplary record as youth and assistant coach under some talented managers, assisting at Valencia and Newcastle. But Cathro’s success was down to the management structure he flourished under. On his own, at Hearts, he perished. Sacked four days before the league kicks off.

If Shaun joins the Celtic coaching setup he will begin a new tutelage under Brendan Rodgers. The manager may be looking for an intelligent, open, canvass, to work with.

Well at least sevco will not have airport ‘security’ issues in the near future.

    From STV website:

Striker Leigh Griffiths, available after a calf injury kept him out of the goalless draw at Parkhead last week, appeared to react to a comment made from a holidaymaker in the check-in queue next to where the Hoops squad picked up their boarding passes for the trip to Norway.

The person appeared to shout an obscenity and Griffiths was heard to say “your team’s deid mate, beat it.”

There were also suggestions the Scotland forward was then accosted as he made his way to the security gates on the next level.

The Bhoy Griff will have the answer for his detractors tomorrow:)

Go on son, give them hell.

The bold yin will haunt the huns all season:)

  4. The divide and conquer strategy is proliferating in todays world.

Had a phone conversation with my season ticket holder sister at the weekend and she said those eejits in the Green Brigade just cost us 23,000!

I said i,m sure they did not as that was the combined fine on multiple charges and Green Brigade guilty of just one.

She said i did not realize this.

Who is behind this effort to demonise them???

The Scottish police have openly admitted to wanting to smash them.

Is there something bigger at play with the reason for Celtic’s seeming collusion not clear?

Constant attacks on the Celtic support?

Media – yes, heard it. Celtic board – yes, heard it. Neganon2 – yes, heard it.

Have you seen the letter which those who’ve been allowed back in to the standing section have received? Some of the ‘conditions’ are draconian.

I read Macjay’s comments earlier and thought they were foolish and genuinely ignorant but I’m very, very surprised that they were deserving of moderation.

Griffiths was totally wrong to say what he said.

    Hun appeared to shout obscenity?

    But Griffs response clearly heard.

Must be great to possess the selective eyesight and hearing of the mssm.

  10. So Celtic

How has your Head of Security and Safety performed in his role today ?

12 fans arrested, whilst our Players are abused at an Airport

Does security not travel with the squad ??!

I personally have absolutely no faith or trust in the man in this role

  11. Ronnie Hawthorn is head of Celtic’s security.

Ronnie is no friend of Celtic or our supporters.

Ronnie spends more time suspending and banning Celtic supporters than providing adequate security for the players.

Going on experience those arrested will have had their details passed to the polis by Celtic.

I agree with you re. moderation of Dick on this occasion. Considering some of the offensive stuff he has posted cloaked in passable language that has been allowed to stand.

  14. I stated on here when Celtic were arriving from Prague after playing the pre season tournament in Austria, Sevco were knocked out in Luxembourg that night, anyone intent on causing problems only needs to arrive at Glasgow when Celtic arrive, coupled with several flights 4 i think in from Luxembourg around the same time you have the potential for our team and any support being open to attacks, if I can get this information very easily why cant Hawthorne plan the travel arrangements to reduce the danger to our team and staff.

  15. glendalystonsils on

The huns dishing out abuse at the airport today can console themselves with the knowledge that their grandchildren will be at the airport collecting Celtic autographs.

  16. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

Moderators must have missed his usual fascist references.

But shhhh, im on world record deletion count:)

  17. Disappointed that no tic holidaymakers sorted out the problem at source , whilst it is difficult perhaps impossible for the fans and club to handle the partial interpretation of the law by Scotland’s police , we can’t put up with our squad getting this crap …

  19. The initial coverage of the Griff was from well known Sevco fan Esplin. He wouldn’t just be hanging about knowing what was coming would he?

  20. EKBHOY

It’s not as simple as sorting them out, years ago I saw a young fella getting grief from a couple of winkers, I did my good citizen bit and told them to gtf, little did I know that there was another four of them out of site, I got spanked for my troubles, didn’t stop me right enough, but people are wary these days, where were the polis, it’s an airport ffs.

The Irish Oak was home to Cheltenham CSC, unfortunately it closed a couple of years ago. The Shamrock or The Spectre, both on Cheltenham High Street, would be your best bet. I would contact them in advance though. Good luck.
