Apologies for recent radio silence. Lots going on with some weighty matters which will soon be of interest to you, unfortunately didn’t have time to blog for a few days.
So much going on simultaneously but I can’t really focus on anything with the daunting evening ahead tomorrow. Season Two of the Brendan Rodgers era will be considerably influenced by the events in Trondheim. Rosenborg are a shadow of their former glory, but Celtic must patch a team together and win (or secure a score draw) in Norway to reach the Champions League group stage.
Most Celtic fans I speak to expect us to win the game, but we’re an optimistic lot (cough). Let’s hope that’s based on sound reason.
I was surprised to hear Shaun Maloney has been speaking to Brendan Rodgers about a youth coaching role at Celtic. Shaun was a rare graduate of the Celtic youth system under Martin O’Neill, breaking through as an 18-year-old in 2001. He will also know more about Lennoxtown than practically any player, as he gorged on gym time there during lengthy periods of injury, while others were resting.
Does he have what it takes to be a good youth coach? This is a difficult one to answer. Look east. Ian Cathro had an exemplary record as youth and assistant coach under some talented managers, assisting at Valencia and Newcastle. But Cathro’s success was down to the management structure he flourished under. On his own, at Hearts, he perished. Sacked four days before the league kicks off.
If Shaun joins the Celtic coaching setup he will begin a new tutelage under Brendan Rodgers. The manager may be looking for an intelligent, open, canvass, to work with.

A man at Glasgow airport shouted “paedo” at the striker who responded by saying: “Your club’s deid mate, beat it”, a reference to Rangers’ liquidation in 2012. Rodgers wouldn’t be drawn on the Griffiths incident but voiced his concern on airport security for his team who face Rosenborg in a Champions League qualifier in Trondheim on Wednesday. The Celtic manager said: “First of all I don’t want to comment on any incident. I haven’t seen it, I haven’t heard about it. “The second thing is that the club know my feelings on our travel and our organisation with that. “That’s something that’s obviously internal for us but hopefully with the help of Glasgow Airport we can get something that’s maybe more suitable. “Incident or no incident, I just think it’s something we can look at that allows us to travel and travel safely. That’s the most important thing.” Asked if he thought there were times his players were at risk at airports, he replied: “I think any team would. “Any team in any airport in the world – going from the first entry at the airport right the way through where you have to pass every element in the airport. That’s every restaurant and every bar. “In a busy period there’s always a risk. That’s not just as Glasgow airport but at any airport. “But we would hope that maybe with the help of the airport we could organise something. “If there was an incident then that’s certainly not something we would want. It’s not something any team should need to go through, really. You want to get in, get checked in, get to your plane and then fly to whichever country you’re travelling to. And you want to do it safely.”
What will Celtic say if, when, the SMSM, ask the club if, the club stands by the comment made at, the airport by LG ? And, if the club say that, they don’t back the comment, what action will the club be taking against LG ?

Cathro was every inch the clipboard coach.
He was touted as an innovator by many in the game.
It is easy enough doing the coaching badges thing and being an assistant when results do not go as expected.
There is a big difference between training ground performance and actual game implementation.
Few ever master the art of implementation.
While the boot and bump of the spl with the whistling cheats makes it difficult there are some coaches having success with attempts at the modern game.
Personally i do not think he had the ability to be a head coach where turning your concepts into a reality in matches is a prerequisite.
He would probably had more success if he had just used the gerrrintaerem tactic.
Cathro will get a job with Subbuteo, where he will get the chance to show his tactical genius:)
