Coaching, Brendan’s open canvass

580

Apologies for recent radio silence.  Lots going on with some weighty matters which will soon be of interest to you, unfortunately didn’t have time to blog for a few days.

So much going on simultaneously but I can’t really focus on anything with the daunting evening ahead tomorrow. Season Two of the Brendan Rodgers era will be considerably influenced by the events in Trondheim. Rosenborg are a shadow of their former glory, but Celtic must patch a team together and win (or secure a score draw) in Norway to reach the Champions League group stage.

Most Celtic fans I speak to expect us to win the game, but we’re an optimistic lot (cough). Let’s hope that’s based on sound reason.

I was surprised to hear Shaun Maloney has been speaking to Brendan Rodgers about a youth coaching role at Celtic. Shaun was a rare graduate of the Celtic youth system under Martin O’Neill, breaking through as an 18-year-old in 2001. He will also know more about Lennoxtown than practically any player, as he gorged on gym time there during lengthy periods of injury, while others were resting.

Does he have what it takes to be a good youth coach? This is a difficult one to answer. Look east. Ian Cathro had an exemplary record as youth and assistant coach under some talented managers, assisting at Valencia and Newcastle. But Cathro’s success was down to the management structure he flourished under. On his own, at Hearts, he perished. Sacked four days before the league kicks off.

If Shaun joins the Celtic coaching setup he will begin a new tutelage under Brendan Rodgers. The manager may be looking for an intelligent, open, canvass, to work with.

The only statement I want to read tomorrow is we’re through! The rest can keep, it won’t go away you know ;-)

Likewise wish I was in Trondhelm, Closest I ever got (also work related) was Montreux, Lake Geneva, Switzerland …..which isnt very close at all, but beautiful all the same :-)

  2. SA,

Not long ago, was reading about multi Monikers.

Wow, it’s hard enough to log on as moi, never mind multiple monikers.

  4. Empty the park…..

    PLC will collapse…..

Then they’ll ask fans to buy them out….

Fans say no deal and, no return to the park till, the biggest drawback in our history, the PLC board, are gone….

Celtic supporter groups form a, fans cooperative society to run Glasgow Celtic.

John Lewis are run by a, customers cooperative society.

My own personal wish is that, the Gallant Res:12 Rebels, be guaranteed that, they will take a hugely, influential place, at the heart of the governance, of the new, Celtic supporters cooperative society, which would control, Celtic FC.

This would achieve what, Fergus McCann, sleekitly denied Celtic’s supporters when, he sneaked out the side door in, 1999,…….control of, theyre club, when he left Celtic Park for the last time.

Take back control of the club, for the sake of your children and, grandchildren. Ah mean, what kind of club will you leave for them ? Will there even be a club for them ?

Just do what has to be done.

The PLC, think yeez are, 53,000 Scooby doo’s who will, simple Simon like, just keep coming back for more, unquestioning until, apathy makes an appearance, and chases 30,000 of yeez oot the park, that gave the PLC a fright!

As for tonight, well…..I’ve already got it into my mind that, we’re going to win the Europa League this season, so, we’ll see.

I’ve got to put on record my admiration for, Calum McGregor and, his transformation under a manager, who knows how to manage him, well done son. CM could be Lubo-esque, if, he’s played directly behind the striker, but, we still need a, fiery fenian aboot the place – John McGinn is that man.

Last season I said that CM was the type of player who’d get a manager the sack, then, 30,000 empty seats, constituted grounds to change the recruitment of managers, guid. See the influence of fan power, eh.

    Guid luck the night.

    …..off-oot.

Rosenborg are unbeaten in their last 4 league games.

    Won 3 and drew 1.

Scored 14 goals in the process, 10 of them in their 2 home games.

They conceded 4 goals, 3 in a 3-3 draw away from home to the 3rd from bottom side.

“In the past five years that’s two comments come out of Celtic in one way or another. The first was at the 2013 AGM and Peter Lawwells crap Rory Bremner joke in the safety of the Kerrydale suite. A sickening event to witness first hand given the spineless approach since his quip.

I much preferred Leigh Griffiths six word impromptu and succinctly delivered, truthful and off the cuff rebuke directly in the face of the zombie….

Well, I get that there’s little comparison, I think Mr Lawwell’s security would be paramount at that event.

But the fact was that quip went to the SFA’s Compliance Officer… Imagine what they’d have done if it was funny.

    Howevah! Two points…

One – that there is a precedent, though who would bet against a disrepute charge for Griff…

Two – it doesn’t matter who you are, if you dare to utter the truth about their deadness or are deemed from Celtic, expect an negative overreaction.

    Chill Ultra

Auldheid. I’ve come to the conclusion after reading your posts over the past six or seven years that your overall aim is reform of Scottish football governance. I also think you believe the end justifies the means, and if this results in keeping Rangers alive without there being further sanctions for their corrupt practices then so be it. But please just say so!

In your last of our sixteen email exchange which ended in December 2016 you assured me that the Resolution 12 requisitioners are ‘a tiger’ that the PLC have ‘by the tail’. In the light of the action, or inaction, of the PLC since then, I think that tiger must have been of the paper variety.

    ____________________________________________

As if I gaf abut the judgement of a guy who wanted to know details of the source of funding for Res 12 Lawyers at a time when the nasties were trying to do the same thing.

    ———

Auldheid. Your concern about any threat from me was completely contrived. At least one of the Resolution 12 team knew my name address, place of business details, etc. Which is more than I did for any of you of you, incidentally. If you had bothered to check me out, and my past and present, you would have known that I could be trusted. Instead, it was more convenient to portray me as some sinister hun, or hunlike troll, and let loose the CQN pack dogs.

And, for somebody who doesn’t gaf about me you’ve certainly spent a lot of time trying to explain yourself since the Res 12 contortions began in November 2013. At the time of the decision to adjourn you did an Eric Riley (or was it De Valera) and made yourself scarce when it came to the big decision. The closeness of your thinking to that of the PLC suggested that you would do their bidding and I had flagged up my fears in an email (which I still have) to your fellow requisitioner BEFORE the Resolution 12 adjournment. Nothing you have written since then suggests otherwise.

As soon as the adjournment happened I asked for transparency because I didn’t believe what I was being told. Everything was vague, dog whistles between you and the other requisitioners, information shrouded in smoke and mirrors, half truths, the very tactics our adversaries were employing.

For example, it is only recently you told me in an email exchange that Phil MacGiollabhain was involved in the initial discussions about Res 12. Why was that not known at the time? And why Phil MacG? You even suggested I meet up with PMcG here in Donegal. Why would I want to do that?

I’m of the belief that all of your work, and it has been prodigious, has been on behalf of the PLC, but not in the best interests of the 100 signatories of which I was but one. I’ve been called all sorts of hunnish names here, troll probably being the least offensive. And all because I questioned the process of the adjournment of Res 12 and the lack of transparency. Myths were created about me looking for names (a la McCoist), which was completely untrue. I took time out that I couldn’t afford, and went to great lengths to explain my position to you and your supporters.

Your fellow requisitioner BRTH was heavily involved with the Celtic Foundation. He pleaded ignorance about knowing Celtic Secretary Michael Nicholson, only to later change his mind when deniability was no longer an option. If it was to be a truly independent process, none of the people acting on behalf of the requisitioners should have had any connection with the PLC. With two-hatters like BRTH aboard it’s no surprise you were so easily persuaded to adjourn.

If I was being magnanimous I would say that you have been played by the PLC. This is a view shared by your mates over on SFM. I don’t think that’s the case though; I think they’re being too kind to you. I believe that well before the Res 12 project, you and the club shared the same view. i.e. Adopt whatever tactics it takes to keep the Old Firm project unscathed. If that was your belief, then no harm in that standpoint but, if that was the case, you should not have got involved with Resolution 12. I believe that you have helped the PLC deliberately walk the process through treacle, and that’s why I question your integrity.

Btw, have you asked Celtic why E Riley absented himself from the 5-way agreement talks in 2012 and the SPL Interim Board Meeting of 28 February 2013?

Have you asked why if Celtic claim to be a stand-alone club does its charitable wing, the Celtic Foundation pay money annually to Old Firm Foundation?

    ____________________________________________

I’ve already had a word with the SFSA and its a judgement call for them. I’ve no intention of saying anything that will undermine their objective that long before I was aware of them required a lot of work to put a supporter movement together. You seem quite happy for that to happen.

    ———————–

Auldheid. I’m all for rooting out corruption the same as you. Why don’t we jointly research the genesis of the SFSA, the personnel involved, what if any vested interest they have, etc? I think you’ll find that the individuals heading this organisation have the same collective DNA that informs their thinking; that the well being of Scottish football is dependent on a strong Rangers.

    ____________________________________________

The SFSA hierarchy is stacked with people who want to ‘move on’. Why don’t you ask them?

You believe there is no chance of regime change. I believe without it title stripping is not going to happen. Welcome to Catch 22.

    ————-

Auldheid. Not once, anywhere, have I mentioned title stripping. I think the phrase, and concept of title stripping, has been used deliberately to counter the notion of disciplining Rangers. It’s not practical, etc, so let’s move on. You could ask why the person who started the Title Stripping movement, was then persuaded to abandon it, and now has his seat at the SFSA table.

I said that nobody at the SPFL or SFA will get ‘booted out’. (Honestly, Jack Irvine at Media House could do with you!!) Your’booted out’ choice of phrase is deliberate, suggesting that the good guys are going to force out the wrong uns. We both know that is not going to happen. They’ll probably meet the same ‘fate’ as Dallas and Ogilvie; cushy wee numbers at UEFA.

    ____________________________________________

It seems to me that your only interest from the off has been to attack the Celtic Board for allowing TRFC into Scottish football and when that chance was lost at an AGM rammy you transfered that anger to those you think stopped it happening

    ———————-

    What rammy??

Auldheid. I could attack the Celtic Board for a lot of things, but this one is away down the list. I’m ambivalent about the presence of Rangers. In one sense I hate what they represent and know they should be punished, but if that means being deprived of the joy of ever again seeing us thrash them then I would probably forego any sanction. Call it my guilty pleasure. I know it’s hypocritical, and I’m colluding with corruption.

But hey, the first time in my life I heard the word ‘boycott’ was when I was about five years old. It was suggested by my exasperated mother to my father after he had came home from a game when we were victims of a bent referee. And so it will go on. To think otherwise is delusional.

    ____________________________________________

When I have to put up with the malevolence from such as you I wish I hadnt got involved. It has soured my thinking and wakened me up to the fact Celtic is a family with some members I would happily avoid.

    ———————

Malevolence? It was you who attacked me. Very early on, long before any fan-funding initiatives, you said you were receiving third party funding to carry on with the Res 12 project. Details were scant. If I’m being honest I didn’t believe a word you said, about the donor, after you had spoken of, or donors (plural) that one of your fellow requisitioners mentioned – you couldn’t make up your mind how many there were. I had no personal interest in the identity of a donor; in fact I suggested that the name(s) could be redacted. I even offered to pay for a statement of the accounts. Although myself and 99 others had gone to the trouble of forwarding our shareholder details to initiate the process I was attacked here as a troll, a hun, scum, and told to mind my own business. What a joke! Res 12 was a process that would hopefully tackle lack of transparency and accountability.

When I persisted with the probing questions you threatened me with violence at the hands of this unknown benefactor, but when I agreed to meet up with him- I even offered to travel from Donegal to Glasgow – you withdrew the invitation.

    ____________________________________________

Given how much other clubs want their share of the blue pound they are prepared to ignore integrity completely then what chance did Celtic have of preventing TRFC being allowed into football happening?

    —————-

Auldheid. This is your most ludicrous claim. You know fine well, that it’s Celtic who benefit from the blue pound most of all. No other club has the unholy Old Firm alliance that we have.

    ____________________________________________

Its all judgement calls and if it makes you and Neganon2 happy I think the most disastrous one was Celtic not voting for Res12.

    ———-

I wanted Resolution 12 be voted for, one way or the other. It was a litmus test. In that way the club’s intentions vis-a-vis Rangers would have been made known. In retrospect, I actually think that the club’s financial strategy was well advanced- so, the idea of voting to challenge the SFA and risk further punishment for Rangers, putting the Old Firm project in jeopardy, would have been like turkeys voting for Christmas. So, from the club’s standpoint adjournment was the ideal solution.

    ____________________________________________

I’ve been keeping my powder dry on that as it’s a judgement call. Would it be the right thing to do and if so when would it be the right time to do it?

    ———–

Too late! The genie’s already out of the bottle. Rangers are back, and so is the Old Firm. As long as the financial well being of the Scotish game is predicated on us having to meet Rangers at least four times each season then the corruption is here to stay. No amount of ‘reform’ is going to change that.

  11. Hola from Alcudia.

All the Irish bars near me won’t be showing the game tonight. However, i found an English one that will.

Have not seen one zombie top in 5 days…..which is good for the sole!

    2-1 to the good guys.

    Hasta luego.

  12. Morning from old Gleca toon.

This City can be a wonderful place to live….and then when the orange mob are allowed to roam free, it be not so wonderful.

Whenever Celtic are doing well on and off the pitch, the hun ( like recent years) go into hiding. Sadly, when the football and City authorities allow this scum mob to do whatever they like, they seize on it.

I honestly believe that the more that they see Celtic saying and/or doing nothing about the corruption and cheating, it was always going to be the case that they smell weakness within the Celtic ranks, and this is one explanation why we appear to have continuous poor press of Celtic etc at this particular time ? It doesn’t take a lot to work out that smelling this ” weakness” allied with the farcical SFA/SPFL/smsm etc views, this scum mob come out of their holes in droves.

It is simply the conduct of a school bully, who sees “weakness” in someone and the bullying becomes relentless………..until the “Victims” suddenly strike back, and in most cases we all know what happens then ?

Should Celtic to progress tonight it would obviously give us all a massive boost in so many ways, and that in itself would go a little way of shutting this mob up for a little while.Make no mistake, I utterly condemn the Lee Rigby stuff no matter who was responsible, but Celtic fans and players have been victims of attacks, they proudly sing and dance in the streets celebrating being ” up to their knees etc”, and that is somehow acceptable to the authorities outside and inside football grounds ?

Imagine the outcry IF any group were to march around Glasgow for example, playing and singing/chanting about being ” up to their knees in British blood” ?

How would the authorities and hun mob view such a scene, especially when deemed legal to do so ?

Over the years we we will have experienced ” The Famine Song etc”. I have faced down several huns and asked them a couple of simple questions about the “History”, and how Protestants died in that famine etc.

I also ask them why it is, ” If peepil in the north of Ireland, and places that are 12,000 feckin miles away such as The Falklands, see themselves as “British”, what the feck are they doing living away from the British mainland ?

Needless to say, I have yet to receive any answers to those viable questions from any Brit hun.

Thats my wee morning rant over.

COYBIG get right into this mob tonight, show them the Celtic way !

  16. Chill Ultra, you out for an early morning troll? May i suggest that one jogs on instead!

  17. Morning all

Big night for Celtic. Our record after goalless first legs – home or away – is not that great and our last two trips to Scandinavia were in football terms disastrous so I am not optimistic. It seems unfair that so much of our season depends on a game played before we play a league match but that unfortunately is our lot.

Win or lose I won’t be on here for a while. I have enough negativity in my job and far too often these days this blog can seem too much like a continuation of that. If we win in Trondheim the moaners will still moan anyway – not that a win tonight would make everything all right, I am not that thick- and should we lose it will be horrendous here.

I shall return and Mon the Hoops. Is it okay to say that?

And the …”what does it say about you” ….quip, when a guy with a moniker asks me TonyDonnelly that kind of question, well I say, ” that’s what it says about me” sleekit? Think about it.
