Coaching, Brendan’s open canvass

580

Apologies for recent radio silence.  Lots going on with some weighty matters which will soon be of interest to you, unfortunately didn’t have time to blog for a few days.

So much going on simultaneously but I can’t really focus on anything with the daunting evening ahead tomorrow. Season Two of the Brendan Rodgers era will be considerably influenced by the events in Trondheim. Rosenborg are a shadow of their former glory, but Celtic must patch a team together and win (or secure a score draw) in Norway to reach the Champions League group stage.

Most Celtic fans I speak to expect us to win the game, but we’re an optimistic lot (cough). Let’s hope that’s based on sound reason.

I was surprised to hear Shaun Maloney has been speaking to Brendan Rodgers about a youth coaching role at Celtic. Shaun was a rare graduate of the Celtic youth system under Martin O’Neill, breaking through as an 18-year-old in 2001. He will also know more about Lennoxtown than practically any player, as he gorged on gym time there during lengthy periods of injury, while others were resting.

Does he have what it takes to be a good youth coach? This is a difficult one to answer. Look east. Ian Cathro had an exemplary record as youth and assistant coach under some talented managers, assisting at Valencia and Newcastle. But Cathro’s success was down to the management structure he flourished under. On his own, at Hearts, he perished. Sacked four days before the league kicks off.

If Shaun joins the Celtic coaching setup he will begin a new tutelage under Brendan Rodgers. The manager may be looking for an intelligent, open, canvass, to work with.

Sorry to hear about your nephew. There were some sinister and sleekit people out and about in the north east of England on Saturday looking to stir up trouble.

On our way to the game on Saturday my nephew and I encountered a Gang of Four guys on the escalator down from Newcastle mainline station to its metro station.

The youngest of the group looked like a really jakey and obese version of Frankie Boyle and had a poppy on his blazer. Strange given it was July. His three companions were all elderly and wearing what I presume were Masonic suits. They all had cut/glass middle England accents and started making snide comments about the Jocks, Big Jock Knew and potatoes. Desperately trying to provoke a reaction.

When they emerged into the metro station and saw the swarm of Celtic fans on the platform they crapped themselves, shut their mouths and hid behind the police.

They were absolutely not your classic EDL types, nor were they local to the north east of England judging by their accents. More like Nigel Farage types but very well versed in Hun / anti-Celtic propaganda.

Seemed like they were up to no good to me, trying to stir things up big time.

It’s the so-called “respectable types” that load the gun for the Tommy Robinsons of the world that you have to watch.

I think the story at the time was that they had hidden the explosives in or under the oven, Somebody put on the oven to heat up the pies and this resulted in the explosion.

Maybe a relative of Kirk Broadfoot?

I blame the home economics teachers in the non denominational schools.

I was also in London at that time and in a boozer just off Buckingham Palace Road that night when Germany knocked them out…we were all outside the pub drinking – majority of my colleagues were English an’ gutted…….some drunk rocket from another bunch of lads lamped a BMW with his pint…exclaiming

” German car!”……..turned out it belonged to one of his group……….the reaction was hilarious.

  7. Quite a few of the posts seem to be a mixture of:

    a) There a campaign to blacken our name ;

    b) Celtic supporters doing just that !

On another note. Generalising about a nation of 50,000,000 people is just plain daft.

    Cheerio for now,

The variables in Scottish and English Law may surprise you?

I would be interested how and where Hate Crime in England fits into the legal system.” Up to our knees?” And all the other lovely adjectives to describe Catholics/Celtic Supporters/Irish people.

Have a look at the websites and the behaviour in England.

There is plenty of evidence there? Why be selective in prosecuting?

It’s all in the detail, arguably English Law protects Freedom Of Speech to a greater extent than it does in Scotland especially in regard to all things Fenian/Orange even more so within the perimeters of football stadia.

I get that you have different views from others and you are entitled to them and free to post them so long as you are respectful of others points of view. However, today you attributed your views to one section of our community; you cannot point the finger at one section, whether that it is within or outside the Stadium. The section of our community are not the only ones who occupy the standing section; therefore you cannot apportion blame to an individual or group. Additionally, you cannot apportion blame to a section of our community for songs sung in a public place.

I am not disputing in any way the a) part of my post. My intention was to point out that instead of standing together against these attacks, we have some who are constantly aiding the anti-Celtic campaign.

  24. Last week i made a point debating the merits of a 0-0 first leg result as opposed to a 2-1 win. Before Beatbhoy comes out all guns blazing if i could just draw attention to the following quotes from Brendan and Scott Sinclair this evening,

BR: “We are preparing to win and planning to win. We look forward and relish the game tomorrow.” #UCL

SS: “It’s a massive game. I think all the boys know what’s at stake. We all know we need to go and win the game tomorrow.” #UCL

Both have spoken about winning the match outright. I honestly don’t think either would make those comments if we were leading 2-1. The fact that the tie sits at 0-0 puts us in a totally different psychological mindset in the way that we will approach this game.
