Commons needed for busy February

963

Neil Lennon’s comments that he will need to sell at Bolton Wanderers before making a bid for Kris Commons, or anyone else, are welcome.  Celtic have four important games in the four weeks after this transfer window closes: home and away to Inter Milan, Aberdeen in the league, and a League Cup semi-final against newco Rangers.  Commons will be vital for some, if not all of these games.

Inter will play on the front foot and Aberdeen have the players to take the game to us, as they did in the Scottish Cup at Celtic Park last season, but I expect newco to defend their 18 yard line in numbers, a bit like Ross County did last week, a scenario which will require someone with Commons’ craft.

Neil Warnock’s sacking at Crystal Palace was good news, as he wanted Commons, had money to spend and could offer the allure of top-flight football.  Neil Lennon would be able to offer Commons familiarity, but with Bolton spending a total of £300k in the summer, their chances of being able to afford a bid for Commons that would raise Celtic’s interest are limited.

  1. why not sign the best 2 players in the world for each position, doesn’t matter how much it costs………

offer them 3000k a week, decent basic and some scam EBT thinghy to make up the shortfall

lets not bother to pay hector, in fact lets not pay anyone

when we go bust we’ll just dump the debt, keep our history and carry on cause we’ll be the same team

its been done before ya know

  2. On Targets, I would surprised if JG signs. We do not play the way he needs or in my opinion wants to be played . He needs to be played in a two man attack.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  3. Honestly thought the carnage they caused Scottish football that by now we would have had change at the SFA and some sort of FFP in place. Instead what we have is CEO of the SPFL saying stiff creditors dump your debt it’s ok we still see you as the same club. They’ve spent what they don’t have again and all we get is we need them back. More fool me.

  4. Convicted rapist Ched Evans will not be allowed to resume his career overseas, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has said.

Evans left prison in October after serving half of a five-year term for raping a woman in a hotel in May 2011.

On Friday, Maltese side Hibernians said they wanted to sign the Wales international striker, 26, on a deal until the end of the season.

But an MoJ spokesperson said strict conditions imposed on sex offenders “effectively rules out working abroad”.

The spokesperson added: “We are determined to have one of the toughest regimes in the world for managing sex offenders, to stop them reoffending and to protect victims.

“Probation officers must give permission for sex offenders on licence to take up new jobs and this includes ensuring they hold regular face to face meetings – this effectively rules out working abroad.

“The offenders will also be subject to strict conditions such as exclusion zones, non-contact orders and having to attend sex offender treatment programmes.”

Clarification of the MoJ’s stance comes amid disputed reports that Evans had been offered the chance to play for Hibernians.

The Maltese club’s vice-president Stephen Vaughan said an offer had been made to the ex-Sheffield United striker, but on Saturday a spokesman for Evans denied that claim.

“There have been numerous false stories, and stories of which Ched knows nothing about, of which this is one,” Evans’s spokesman said.

Vaughan had said on Friday: “We’ve spoken to his agent and have offered a deal from now until the end of the season.”

Hibernians are 15 points clear at the top of Malta’s domestic league, having dropped only two points in 16 games.

The champions of Malta will enter next season’s Champions League at the second qualifying round.

Evans played for Sheffield United at the time of his conviction and, after his release from prison, was given permission to use the League One club’s training facilities.

The Blades later retracted their offer after strong opposition from some supporters and club patrons.

More than 165,000 people signed a petition opposing Evans’s possible re-employment by the Yorkshire club.

Hartlepool boss Ronnie Moore stated in Decemberhe would like to sign the forward before the Football League’s bottom club ruled out any such move.

Evans maintains his innocence, and aninvestigation into his conviction by the Criminal Cases Review Commission is under way.

I know this guy is involved in some deep creek paddling. ..question is. .. does he deserve a second chance? Does he deserve the right to earns wage?

The head of the SFA and his role in Scottish football these last 15 years, his first election and his unopposed election is far more intriguing. Up there with Blatter. I include our plc in this. Completely lost the faith in them. Will not receive my support until they are gone.

  8. Sipsini

I never thought they would go away.

What I did think was that them that run Scottish football and Celtic would put things in place that would make sure what we have seen in the last few years would never happen again. All we want is a fair game .

  9. marspapa,

With you on that mars, I’m all for giving a manager a chance, not if he’s a board lackey though.

If RD wants to manage our club in the best way, stop playing wingers along with attacking fullbacks with a diluted midfield.

  10. The Comfortable Collective on

Transfer window + Twitter + need for transfer gossip = Lee Wallace to Celtic for £500k.

In life there are leaders and followers if you believe what the MSM say Celtic are followers. We before long will be playing catch up with the died team it would be funny if it wasnt so serious. It can never happen dont believe it this is Scotland that we live in. H.H.

Or add an extra midfielder and harder working, more mobile wide players.

Deila’s system relies on players all being able to press. Guys like Matthews, Stokes, Mulgrew aren’t capable of this. Until the right players are brought in, we’ll get splurts of good football until it’s sorted.

If Deila stays and the board don’t back him, then he would be a lackey.

He also has a few guys there who don’t want to be at the club eg. VVD.

  13. Sipsini

We have never had a better chance to make it a fair game. But we are blowing it big time.

The reason being you have to suffer the guys at your work

They’ll be on cloud nine believing the miracle thats happening at their club now !! :)

Hope you can keep calm bud , their ramblings are going to be over the top , untill this Circus is/gets stopped , my worry is not so much them this season , my worry is our situation , leadership on off the park , a togetherness on and off the park , team selections , window ins/outs , injuries , its going to be a very interesting if not turbulent end to the season , take care bud :)))

Having watched Max Power today he is made for Ronys system he has bags of stama runs and chases. He doesnt shirk the tackle and scores goals. He also has bags of confidence a real gallas lad I dont know what he would cost but I know he would fit the bill. H.H.

Sometime last year I said on here that a Ferguson or a McLean would pip Celtic to last season’s title. I was wrong, Neil sussed the SPL, and would have won the SPL no matter who was managing all others. Would have won this season as well. Unlike some on here I am not assuming anything. If, and it is a big if Aberdeen and Dundee Utd keep close to us up to the break well we could have a mini league on our hands. Do not know if the two Macs are up to taking it to the wire, or whether ICT and Hamilton can keep their efforts going, but the fact is three of the top six have beaten us already this season, and could do so again. Could well be competitive. Good football wise, not good from the perspective of Celtic going backwards. Weather could be a factor too, anyone on here know if a plastic pitch can get saturated?

  17. chrisvancoupon on

Celtic will always be prone to conceding with Ambrose, Matthews and a disinterested VVD in the team. Celtic are creating many chances (ross county excluded) but Guidetti and stokes aren’t taking them. There’s only a certain amount of times Dundee United and Hamilton can be lucky.

  18. chrisvancoupon,

The problem being, our manager won’t be backed financially with our present board.

    I sound a bit like Kev’j here:))

I just want what is best for Celtic and I don’t see it happening.

    Sipsini.

Yep. A few weeks ago, RD was talking about four signings. Now he wants to keep hold of what he has.

It’s tough for RD. Even Neil Lennon was back far more than him.

The board are at it again, even giving us just a few weeks to get Inter tickets at Christmas time.

After your thought provoking comments last night I spoke to 4 season ticket holders today. All can’t wait for Sevco game, two virtually guaranteed tickets through cup ticket sceme other 2 trying their hardest to obtain tickets.

Incidentally all think Ronny is clueless and is trying to fit square pegs into round holes.

  22. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Saint Stivs. Thats all we can do wait and see but I cant see how a 15 year old would improve our midfield I think he would get kicked off the park.. H.H.

I was speaking to a Norwegian journalist in berlin while watching the Zagreb game in October. He said a similar thing about the wonderkid. Bayern munich have a had a blank cheque knocked back as his dad didn’t feel it was the right move. Deila even benched the boy when scouts were around.

  24. Ps.

The boy in the office is 35 years old and played semi pro in the norwegian league.

He couldn’t believe we took Ronnie on.

    No kidding.

  25. Dundee United have agreed a fee of around £50,000 including add-ons for Arbroath striker Simon Murray.

The 22-year old has scored eighteen goals this season for the Gayfield club and is out of contract at the end of the season.

The guy I spoke to reckons Deila would build a dynasty at Celtic and that people need to realise where the club is financially. Told him that it didn’t look possible so far. Guy reckons a lot of Celtic’s players are the guys not doing their job but that Deila does have to learn.

  27. What we need is catman on.

I can believe Celtic took a punt on Deila. They won’t spend the money on a proven manager and had to change tact from that was used under Lennon. No throwing money at the team anymore. Sad but true. Makes me wonder where my season ticket money actually goes.

Not a fan of Hooper’s but we have to keep our options open. JG in my opinion will want to play elsewhere, some where he is played in a two man attack.
