Commons needed for busy February

963

Neil Lennon’s comments that he will need to sell at Bolton Wanderers before making a bid for Kris Commons, or anyone else, are welcome.  Celtic have four important games in the four weeks after this transfer window closes: home and away to Inter Milan, Aberdeen in the league, and a League Cup semi-final against newco Rangers.  Commons will be vital for some, if not all of these games.

Inter will play on the front foot and Aberdeen have the players to take the game to us, as they did in the Scottish Cup at Celtic Park last season, but I expect newco to defend their 18 yard line in numbers, a bit like Ross County did last week, a scenario which will require someone with Commons’ craft.

Neil Warnock’s sacking at Crystal Palace was good news, as he wanted Commons, had money to spend and could offer the allure of top-flight football.  Neil Lennon would be able to offer Commons familiarity, but with Bolton spending a total of £300k in the summer, their chances of being able to afford a bid for Commons that would raise Celtic’s interest are limited.

Sorry for the late reply to your post, farming takes precedence. :-)

My opinion of our latest adventure is one of total apprehension. I believe RD is asking players to play a system they have no idea whatsoever what that system is. The old, square pegs in round holes, springs to mind. We have gone backwards as a team and the attendances are perfect proof of this. I have missed one home game this season, through injury, which was well documented on this blog. I am not enjoying the product on the park one little bit, with the Dun Utd game an exception. The base of this team won the league last season by a massive 29 pts, we had the best defensive record in the UK, what has caused this to change so dramatically??? Answers on a postcard to the Celtic Board.

The only way this experiment is going to show any sort of success is for PL to supply RD with the correct funds to replenish the team with the type of players, with the appropriate skills required to suit and promote this system, and do it in this window. We have a guaranteed £30m income for qualification to the group stages of the CL next season. Winning the title would ensure our participation in the qualifiying rounds, but it will take a team who know each other, bare minimum, to progress to the group stages. Leaving signings to the summer window is not an option. That will be a total flop. But hey ho, I’ll still support the team on the park and will renew my ST, finances permitting. Sorry for the long rant, nice to chat. KTF. Like I do. :-)))

Cheers fur the reply bud, you’re like me. We don’t know what’s gonnae happen and everything else is just conjecture. Our problem is we never seem to build for the future with PL gambling most years that we’ll get through to the CL with what we’ve got, gambling’s a mugs game. Never before in a transfer window have we required major change, either that or a miracle transformation in the team’s performances on the park. Celtic are so predictable to other teams at the moment it’s unbelievable.

Always loved your posts mate. Been looking u out for ten years nearly.

It’s the scouting system. But it’s also the loan system. We can’t win so many youth trophies and not have quality. Maybe we send players at 18 down a division to play? Maybe they go Dundee United? Would some of our boys be better off? Henderson for example.

Give it a go cause what we do isn’t working.

In a way, it’s hilarious, but the fact the demented old hack actually makes a living out of blurting surreal bollocks like that is bizarre; then again the Huns operated illegally for two decades without a single Scottish ‘journo’ questioning or calling them out and listening to Keevins you realise why…

That John Park sounds like a Rasputin type character.

Why and how does he exert so much influence at the football club?

Granted, he has unearthed some outstanding footballers such as Victor – however most, if not all of the revenue generated from selling players for a profit, has been squandered on a myriad of duds.

  9. Keevins and his like are there not for any intellectual debate, theyre tasked to ensure reaction, from those who listen and those who react to the listeners such as on here, his latest ramblings are testimony to that, dunno who is on the err panel with him tonight but I can guarantee they never missed a mensa meeting to be there,

  14. So if Celtic’s youth regularly finish top of the league and win the cups why then when it comes to 18 years old are we clamouring on here to sign so and so from some other Scottish club?? Surely we’ve already picked up the best youths.

  15. 16Roads

J Park inherited the young talent at Hibernian.Alex Millar was the man who put the successful scounting system in place.

  16. I’ll be honest, I was never sure of JPs successful at hibs. Brown and such were developed from a young age. Was JP the scout for boys of 10-14? Also how many of his over 18 signings nailed it? Not sure but would be great to know. Hibs were good but did they really push at the top. Would they have done much minus Brown n Fletcher?

Cosgrove and Cowan on BBC Scotland

Saw Cowan a couple of years back. He was guest speaker at a Boys’ Club dinner. First, he subjected one of the barmaids to a long drawn out sleaze-fest. Then he cracked a ‘joke’ about vegetables and Paralympics athletes at London 2012. Even creepy Cosgrove realised he had gone too far so he made a kind of appeal for audience discretion.

Commons has played a good few games this season. Doesn’t look like scoring. Stokes has a few goals but has missed far more along with Guidetti.

It’s daft to think Commons can repeat what he did last season. He looks far from that player. Even his set piece deliveries are poor.

The loans we have in have been pretty poor.

But I’m saying maybe guys like Henderson should go out to a Dundee United or this season hibs to get games as they seem to stall at us by 18/19. We should be producing one or two per under 19 team by now. We have had time.

    Speak soon mate.

  25. Gordon64

Already the SMSM have them spending 30 million and we will have to spend to follow them. Look at Kings previous interviews about soft loans to stop Celtic getting ten in a row. Not a thing has been learned from past 3 years. Doncaster telling us all dump millions of debt no problem still same club. Worst thing for me not a peep from Celtic or any other club. They can’t wait to get things back to as they were before . That will be the final straw for me.

  26. gordon64

You’re entitled to your opinion as how you spend your hard earned cash. Stay strong buddy, we will hopefully see you back. Incidentally, I will never attend a game against thems. Thems have managed to drag Scottish Football so far into the gutter, even the “fag” companies, who are struggling to get companies to accept their sponsorship, are not interested in any league with that incarnation in it. Toxic vermin does not fully describe them, in fact, it flatters them. :-)

Weefra HH praying to Wee Oscar.

  27. Weefra,

I have to disagree, the reason our league can’t get a sponsor is because the huns aren’t in it, that is the sad truth of the matter:(

I wish I was wrong, but our board have downsized for the same reason.

Sometimes reality has to kick in whether we like it or not…just pump the bassas when play them. Hail Hail.
