Commons needed for busy February

963

Neil Lennon’s comments that he will need to sell at Bolton Wanderers before making a bid for Kris Commons, or anyone else, are welcome.  Celtic have four important games in the four weeks after this transfer window closes: home and away to Inter Milan, Aberdeen in the league, and a League Cup semi-final against newco Rangers.  Commons will be vital for some, if not all of these games.

Inter will play on the front foot and Aberdeen have the players to take the game to us, as they did in the Scottish Cup at Celtic Park last season, but I expect newco to defend their 18 yard line in numbers, a bit like Ross County did last week, a scenario which will require someone with Commons’ craft.

Neil Warnock’s sacking at Crystal Palace was good news, as he wanted Commons, had money to spend and could offer the allure of top-flight football.  Neil Lennon would be able to offer Commons familiarity, but with Bolton spending a total of £300k in the summer, their chances of being able to afford a bid for Commons that would raise Celtic’s interest are limited.

The transfer market in football is now a dirty game (maybe it always was) we the fans only hear snippets about what goes on

Managers and scouts tied in with agents, kickbacks, dropsies, add ons etc

There is huge money skimmed off by spivs

In a lot cases players arent necessarily bought because they are good footballers

An agent is friendly with a scout,he recommends player A (both know he is not very good) but both also know the clubs involved will buy and sell which means MONEY MONEY MONEY for agent and scout, job done.

Looking forward to Pauls article as the transfer window closes and

“Celtic held on to the bulk of their playing squad while moving on those squad members deemed surplus to requirement, just one addition to the squad (work permit dependant of course) is the exciting young El Salvadroean full back currently with Tel Avivs reserves who has been attracting the attention of big clubs throughout Europe,he has turned down Chelsea,Man City and Real Madrid to play in the Hoops,a great coup by John Park”

All good points that you have raised, am i the only supported concerned by our club’s continued silence over these issues and seemingly acceptance of the cheating and bias in the game in this country.

  5. From the outset I’ve had the same basic thought and have tried to temper my view with the unfolding research and evidence furthered by sites like ours and the contributions of intelligent and sentient tims like Auldheid and others………

To me this has all along been a type of shell game or confidence trick where The Busted Flush has sought to dump the debt, stiff those owed monies and obscure or deflect his blame for consigning that shameful outfit to history. Little that has come out since has changed my view.

I think the New Year has seen a development in the stakes especially given the upcoming charade in february.

I think KD Lang will be gone soon and have no requirement to deal with the consequences of his fantastic outburst – another movement of the shell, further confusion and distraction in a fairly straightforward set of circumstances. Dogs will bark.

I hope everyone at our club knows that the support need this issue to be dealt with now and that it cannot be left to thers to deal with.

Have you only started supporting Celtic this year?.Sectarianism.Celtic and the Huns made that into a business over 100 years ago.Where does the term “Old Firm”come from. The rest of Scottish football knew they were in collusion for the same period.

Cheating?.We have been cheated for the same period.Referees, cheated us since our inception.Nothing new.

Celtic and The Huns carved up the voting rights between them so they were able to veto any new ideas from the rest of the clubs.Collusion.One has existed and flourished because of the other, get your blinkers off.At no time in our history have we been at loggerheads with them.During the time of the EBT years,do you honestly think that the Celtic Board did not know. And that it was probably to Celtics harm?.Did they raise any concerns at the time to the authorities?.No.Yet you and your mates want to lay all the blame at this boards door.

I’m with the mineshafters on this one and find RD’s comments about the transfer window either lost in his English, or just downright depressing. He’s doing more harm than good, off the pitch in his interviews. especially ” We will try to do it but I think we will have to work on the 31st “.

  20. My friends in Celtic,

I sincerely hope January is indeed a pivotal month in regards to removing any ambiguity of our clubs position on the on-going lies and deceit that is Scottish football.

I back the board on many matters and I acknowledge their stewardship in guiding us through a difficult financial climate, but their silence will be seen to many as complicity.

It may be uncomfortable for our custodians to speak out, but speak out they must.

Before the LC semi with its inevitable media frenzy it must be totally transparent just who we are playing against. It must be clear that we are not crossing swords with an old rival, and it is a brand new fixture.

IMO if a statement is not made, our credibility is at stake and the cheats and liars will perceive that Doncaster’s views have been vindicated.

Perception is everything and I despair when I hear them described by the media ( All the media)

Our custodians owe us this, the supporters who have been cheated and subjected to lies for years.

My understanding is that clubs install artificial pitches as a way of generating extra income for the club by hiring the pitch out on non-match days. Could we not just have hired it for a couple of hours or did we ask for a freebie?

The best and most honest post on CQN ever.

You can accept and knew that we have always been Old Firm. I naievely had my doubts.

I cannot accept that we are prepared to play the role of the abused wife who likes it for the sake of keeping the charade on the road.

I again naievely thought that we would attempt to get some concessions. When John Reid made his famous statements I thought their might be something in the air with regards a level playing field and Scottish football not just been ran for the sake of the huns.

As you rightly point out it has always been so and this plc along with previous plcs in fact the entire Scottish football industry accept that Rangers is Scottish football.

The only difference between me and you is that you are willing to still contribute to this charade for the times that we are ALLOWED to win.

It is not a fair sport. It is theatre based mainly on generating money. A form of entertainment akin to WWF.

The present malaise is due to the anxiousness at losing a generation of Old Firm armchair fans throughout our country the UK

  27. Young Celts whitewashed in Mercedes Benz Youth Cup in Stuttgart. Lost 7th place match to Fenerbache 3-4 on pens after 2-2 draw. Tournament goal diff of 6 – 18 not good though. Experience will stand the young Bhoys in good stead.

  28. I find it astonishing that people are deciding on the success or otherwise of the transfer window only a few days in.

“All the deadwood should have been moved on by now” which players, going where and for how much? I would imagine very few teams want the dross in our squad, and the player would need to agree terms, highly unlikely to happen quickly unless its a top tier team (which it wont be) The player will stall hoping for something better and we’ve shown our hand accepting a transfer fee from the first team to offer it.

“We should have signed at least one CL quality player by now” again, its absurd. A genuine CL quality player would want to play for a club who he can be confident will make the CL every year. Even a europa league quality of player would want to hold on and wait for better options unless we throw money at them. Then when they dont work out the board get abused for spending £2-3 million on a dud. No player wants to play in the spl both for irs perceived and actual lack of quality.

The only chance of signing quality is to wait until the last few days of the window and hope we can convince someone of genuine quality (e.g forster, hooper, ledley, vvd) that we are a stepping stone to a good epl team. All of those signings knew they werent staying with us forever and we knew it too.

The market has shifted and we are mowhere near the top table, we compete with mid table championship clubs for players, so the quality will be at that level.
