Commons needed for busy February

963

Neil Lennon’s comments that he will need to sell at Bolton Wanderers before making a bid for Kris Commons, or anyone else, are welcome.  Celtic have four important games in the four weeks after this transfer window closes: home and away to Inter Milan, Aberdeen in the league, and a League Cup semi-final against newco Rangers.  Commons will be vital for some, if not all of these games.

Inter will play on the front foot and Aberdeen have the players to take the game to us, as they did in the Scottish Cup at Celtic Park last season, but I expect newco to defend their 18 yard line in numbers, a bit like Ross County did last week, a scenario which will require someone with Commons’ craft.

Neil Warnock’s sacking at Crystal Palace was good news, as he wanted Commons, had money to spend and could offer the allure of top-flight football.  Neil Lennon would be able to offer Commons familiarity, but with Bolton spending a total of £300k in the summer, their chances of being able to afford a bid for Commons that would raise Celtic’s interest are limited.

    Back to Basics

I am very happy generally in my personal life

But Celtics efforts on and off the pitch leave me a bit underwhelmed at the moment

But who knows what the next few months could bring…..

I think you are correct to think that few teams would want our deadwood.

    Not do we.

It might cost a few bob,put offer to pay them,say,50% of their outstanding contract and tell them to GTF. Get their agent on the case for a new club.

After all, they contribute nothing and there must be the occasional club as daft as us.

This board, who I disagree with on so many issues, have negotiated my club through the worst of financial hardships. In a climate that clubs,so much more wealthier than mines, have found impossible to compete in without being burdened by insurmountable debt. For this reason alone, they have my gratitude.

You and your clique of “Wolfie Smith revolutionaries”would take our club down because of some purported slight to your Celticness,by not issuing some meaningless statement regarding the demise of the Huns. For not taking up a gauntlet that to be honest,is just a salve for your sense of outrage. The liquidated club, that no one seems to care about any longer is still calling the shots to you and your like.

Boards come and go,as do fans. The only constant is Celtic, who I have loved since I realised what unconditional love was all about.Nothing will deter my joy at following them.

Have had disagreements with you on team matters a few times but that’s very well said, mate HH.

And this ‘The liquidated club, that no one seems to care about any longer is still calling the shots to you and your like’ is spot-on: knee-jerk retalition to deliberately provocative bollocks is something we nee dto rise above; Hun tactics looking for Hunnish responses.

  4. depressing reading this morning…can’t wait until 5pm and we are third in the table….

  5. Cowiebhoy yes I had missed that :)

Turkeybhoy I think it’s one thing to recognise there was an economic old firm which ensured that the clubs monopolised TV money etc etc. however distasteful that it in sport I recognise it. But it’s quiet another to say that celtic where happy to be cheated and participate in rigged games.

But perhaps you are right. But now that mask has slipped and you can’t go back. The genie is out of the bottle and won’t go in. So faced with the stark truth do we prop up it all up as the abused wife in the relationship??

    Is that what you want?

    Forsooth.

  7. I’d like to address something that was angled at me and my opinion on the matter: SEVCO

Like many … probably most if not all of you… I too from a child growing up edured religious sectarian hatred towards me in Scotland.

A celtic top acted as a beacon for those intolerant idiots to spew their bile and occasional beating to me growing up in the 70s and 80s.

At work …. being acknowledged as the taig, fenian b or bead rattling b lasted till I became a boss.

Until my 30s I hated them for it….till I realised how consuming it had become.

I realised that you are not born with hatred… it’s taught…

I feel sorry for some …. and pity most….

And you know what ?….. they hate that….. it eats them up that that’s well…… How they are .

    So……..

    SEVCO…

Why would OUR board keep contesting the lie?… letting it consume them…

We pity them now…… and you know what?….. they hate our pity.

As their club plummeted to its death….

Their fans stood back and watched…. watched hoping that a Minty would suddenly open the imaginary cheque book again…. to sign a Laudrup…stevens…gascoigne …..

To bring back the glory days when looking down st them… despising those kafflics was justified in the arms of sport.

    It never happened

Then came a Motherwell born billionaire ….and the fun really began.

    They were liquidated… and died.

You know it…… I know it ….. world football knows it….. everyone knows it…. even the Sevconians know it….. but won’t admit it.

    Why?

The most successful club in Scotland.

6 words that means so so so much in their lives……

6 words that could be contested by a Champions of Europe title….

Ah!!!! But we wan the cup winners cup?

The what?????? What’s that cup again? OH ITS DEFUNCT(like their club …but sssssshh)

Let me dissect that…. er… cup winners cup

The cup delivered in the changing room baths as their fans rioted.

How can you be cup winner cup winners….. when the famous Glasgow celtic won’t the cup that previous season with the title?

So it was the cup runners up playing for the winners cup.

    You see a pattern here?

The SFA NEED the lie of the same club to happen…

If it didn’t …. well…. sevconians would turn their back on a shiny club with two diddy title’s…..

They need the drug of most successful club in Scotland to ram in timmys face…

    BUT really are they….

We know the truth ….. every club in Scotland throws it now in their face.

We will easily overtake that self proclaimed title shortly…. with a Champions of Europe cherry on top ….. and it will kill them watching it ….

They are in a horrific state…..

Nobody knows who owns what…. the deeds!!!! A broon said.

Ashley gets £9·25 in every £10 spent on merchandise…

They will and forever more be fleeced …. this makes them even more uncompetative they already are…

And as you know… No European revenue results in massive losses…. unless

Unless you cut your cloth accordingly….

THAT CUT CLOTH WILL ensure SEVCO and its fans will always self destruct.

And imagine when we reach their title milestone for all its worth.

We own our own 1st class training facilities.

And Celtic park… the transformation in around the stadium was like a Phoenix rising….

Rising like the shadow of Stein holding that European cup the WE see at the entrance….

It’s a cold shadow for a Sevco fan…. always has been…. and always will be….

    Pity them

Most of my Port family are now unfortunately at the top of Heggies Avenue. Your grandparents Mamie and Paddy ( I think) were mentioned frequently in my Nana and Granda’s house. I think Mamie and my Nana, Nellie English were probably good friends before your folks went stateside.

I was in the Port in July and went up to the cemetery to pay my respects and have a few words. My Granda, Davie was in many ways responsible for instilling Celtic into my life.

“It may be uncomfortable for our custodians to speak out, but speak out they must.”

I could not agree with you more …… there comes a time when the custodians of a Football Club have to confirm ‘ENOUGH IS ENOUGH’, if they really are custodians….. the conspiracy to resurrect the zombies is now very obvious and 10+ years of criminal corruption is in danger of disappearing ‘under the carpet’ …….. A complete and utter disgrace, which will permanently damage the reputation of Scottish Football ….

  12. Pauloantony while I understamd your viewpoint aren’t we supposed to be watching a sport? A fair competition. I don’t care about the Huns I care about celtic. But if celtic continue to allow its support to be subject to cheating and sectarianism then we need regime change.

Ronny Deila said he wouldn’t care if the league went to the wire as long as we win it. Some folk choose to read that he said the league will go to the wire.

I thought Aberdeen had already beaten Motherwell! Turns out the game hasn’t been played yet. Every Aberdeen game is worth 6 points for a win and 3 points for a draw.

No getting through to you that there are a lot of Celtic supporters with genuine reasons for dissatisfaction?

I don’t have a problem with those who think that everything is the best in this best of all possible worlds-you should have to listen to my Dad when he starts on his ‘back in the day’-but it does not alter the fact that there are genuine reasons for concern.

Until that is understood, and acted upon,Celtic support will be divided.

    Rangers went bust,their troops united.

Rangers went bust and we splintered.

It’s f…..g heartbreaking that they seem to be coming out of LIQUIDATION,let’s remember, more unified than us.

We have not built on a golden chance. Whoever was in charge of that failure to do so should be held responsible.

  23. Pauloantony

That would be an absolute ideal strategy, which I would be 100% behind, have our own coming through

Now (not a but this time)

At a recent night in Greenock, Wullie McStay stated, we / as in Celtic, have nothing coming through our Youths, I certainly hope he wrong,

The context also needs explaining, in youths not being challenged at higher level with no reserve league etc, and some need to going out on loan to compete at higher level and gain experience

    But

He is much closer to the set up than me, so can only listen to what he is saying

    And that does alarm me
