Commons phenomenal contribution

737

You will remember times, not so long ago, when a successful Celtic team went 15 months without keeping a clean sheet away from home in any competition, even against lower league opposition. Already this season we have achieved what until recently was regarded as beyond the club, won two games away from home without conceding.

Helsingborgs are not of the calibre of opponents Celtic can anticipate facing in the group stages of the Champions League (assuming no bizarre reversals), but they disposed of the Polish champions 6-1 on aggregate in the previous qualifying round and are as resourceful as Aalborg or Utrecht.

There was plenty to be pleased with in last night’s but the most striking element was the performance of Kris Commons. He scored goal and was credited with an assist, has scored both our league goals this season and had a further assist against Helsinki; an incredible return for a player who three weeks ago was drawing comment on the size of his shorts!

Agree with you wholeheartedly ……… Charlie is growing in stature very quickly, and what great judgement NEIL exercised in the dogged pursuit of FF, despite reservations in certain quarters (MSM in particular) ……..still a bit of work to do on qualifying …….. By the way, don’t think Broonie was fully fit last night, but he was very effective, nevertheless. ……… Needs to be rested at the weekend……..

Just booked four tickets online for the Helsinborg game. Had to pay £1.50 booking fee for each of the tickets, on top of the ticket, and here is bonus, I get to print them out myself! Booked six tickets for the Aberdeen match three weeks ago, cost £1.75 total booking fee. Not so long ago used to buy tickets direct from Celtic ticket office, and if I am paying a booking fee I would rather it went to employing staff in Glasgow, not on paying bogus fees! The thing is the internet was supposed to make things more efficient, not more expensive. Emails are free, and yet I am paying £6 for what in effect is one booking. Absolute rip-off!

I do hope you realise that I was joking earlier hence the smilie at the end of my post.

If I offended you then I am genuinely sorry.

I wasn’t offended in the least,at first I was going to get BT to give you a bashin, but he may have took it the wrong way and get offended,so I let it be.

I actually laughed with your comment.

I do not think spending a wad on Jordan Rhodes makes great footballing or business sense.

Say it took 7M to get him.

    Ok

For that money Celtic could buy Efe Ambrose from Israel (Nigerian International), Markus Henriksen AND get a striker on loan OR get Jonny Russell who I think the fans would take to with no problem.

We are stuck with Bangura and Murphy and we need shot of them to move on to buy a full time centre forward and there is a possibility that Stokes or Hooper might leave at some point in the next year, Hooper will leave within the next year IMHO after sampling CL football so there are players who will move and we need fresh replacements.

Blowing all our cash on one player simply does not make sense to me.

I fear their news agenda is the shape of things to come.

They will under sell the SPL so that they can big up effect of the demise of the TFOD.

However you have to laugh at their luck so far.

We get some good results and hopefully some good crowds in Europe.

DU make a good start to the season – respect to the SFA acolyte in the fixtures department.

Hertz get a game with Liverpool in the EuL qualifier.

Consequently Scottish football has not been short of news.

Just honest men and women to report it.

left a message on your phone Monday.that hotel looks fine if a little bit small, but great location..

  8. No way will PL pay out the money Hudds are after for Rhodes, not a hope.

I’m probably in the minority but he isn’t that good imo, worth a couple of mill tops, if he was that good he would already be at a prem club, as they can afford to waste a few million.

ITs such a laugh listening to the MSM attempt to spin the Pawnbrokers Cup run in a positive fashion and st the same time choke having to acknowledge our success in Helsingborg and hopeful euro money. I d an aching Sevco fan in work today saying ” he just didnae

I get tickets for all the away games directly from Celtic. It’s always 2 tickets which would be an additional £3 for every away game.

I grudge it so much that I now go up and collect the tickets from the TO even though it probably costs me more in petrol!

  11. Kris Commons still hasn’t reached the heights of his first season in the Hoops but he is undoubtedly off to a great start this season. Keep it up Kris.

Big Frazer looked like an international veteran last night. Totally in command.

Wee James couldn’t get enough of the ball and ran at the Swedes at every opportunity. This kid has the world at his feet in my opinion. I don’t want to take anything away from Aiden when I say this but James Forrest is a far more dangerous player to the opposition than he was. Fantastic young player.

Izzy looked really good last night which was nice to see again and Sammi continued to build on his consistently good performances of late.

Charlie displayed how influential he can be from a midfield position in the second half. For me that’s where he should be playing so here’s hoping the much called for CB arrives this window.

All in I thought we showed great mental fortitude last night.

  14. Anybody else heard the rumour’s that Bomber is to be the celebrity face of the new campaign to relaunch Eldorado?

Sevco Legned Bomber Brown has teamed up with fellow grape grower David ‘Leggo’ Leggat to launch the fortified wine Eldorado, even buying shares in the ailing company.

“We’re aye drinkin the f***ing stuff…why no share in the profiteroles?” said Leggat between a cacophony of burps and swigs of his buckfast wrapped in tinfoil.

“Personally ah wiz alweez a Lanny drinker ( referring to Lanliq Fortified Wine) It wiz alwayz ra beverage a choice furra discerning dosser. I believe a Lanliq and hairspray cocktail was just the ticket for instant oblivion, although ra hangover efterwards wiz mighty fierce…wan time a woke up wae a deid cat oan ma face. Hivvnae seen a bottle of the stuff fur donkey’s years, so a turned tae ra auld Eldorado. Tae somebody ratz usually goat double vision maist arra time it appears that Buckfast have well and truly cornered that particular end of the market…bit the auld Eldorado iz gonni make a come back!” snarled Bomber from the side of his face at a press conference held at the back of a burned out bookies in Carntyne.

“I once used some enterprising decadence to pour my Buckfast into a Soda Stream, the resulting effervescant version of the monkish tipple was even more effective in accelerating the caffeine rush…rendering me thoroughly blootered. A called that particular cocktail a “buckies fizz”…I also loved Four Crown…a couple of bottles of that and your tongue was numb for a fortnight. Wonderful innocent days.” Leggo added- who is a self proclaimed expert ‘mixologist’.

“A remember during the nine n a row yearz ah used tae share a Wine Alley cocktail…a Colt 45, Thunderbird and super lager wae Gazza…that’s how he ended up wae that bald patch. We used to call it wreck the hoose juice. Them wurra dayz…Walter said it cemented camaraderie. Them wur ra dayz when a wiz still partaking of “the bam’s dram”. The Lang family rit made Lanny, and they hud a distillery/ paint remover factory in Largs. It wiz in a converted cinema that hid been designed to look like a Viking longboat so it did. Either that ur it wiz the effects urra Lanny. Well a kept the company afloat fur yearz wae buyin crates urra stuff…unfortunately fur them a wiz their only customer and they soon went bust…efter tha there wiz ma long dark snakebite years…that’s when a met Leggo…doon the doss hoose at Bell Street…a jist ended up gettin bit wae the snake wan too many times…then naturally yae alwayz come bacl tae whit yae know…Eldorado!’

  15. Kris Commons deserves praise and he keeps on going right to the end of the match. He may not look the fittest but looks are often deceptive.Look at how he tracked big Sami in the hope of getting that tap in! :-)

  16. Watching some of the Scots MSM you’d never know we took a massive step towards the Champions League. Somehow if it had been Rangers 1872 I think it might have been different.

The ones who do mention it do so through gritted teeth, just look at Al Lamont’s piece on the BBC (which looks suspiciously similar to the STV article earlier today) http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19350635?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter he still can’t help himself but mention Sevco “Lennon’s remarks regarding the Ki money suggest last summer’s figures (£500,000 debt) may not be repeated, which is precisely why a place among Europe’s elite means so much to chief executive Peter Lawwell and the rest of the Celtic board – especially given the hit taken by Scottish football as a result of Rangers’ absence from the top flight.

Boo hoo Al we can feel your pain!! :)

  17. Best bit about big FF last night (IMO you understand) was at a corner in the last five minutes. Even on the tv you could hear him screaming “Who’s on the post … who’s on the post? Izzy. IZZY” Cue a quick retreat by wee Izzy to take up the position pointed at. THAT’s a keeper in charge of his six-yard box and that’s the big difference between FF 2010 and FF 2012.

  19. BarcaBhoy, agree that we must play a very defensive midfielder to help out Charlie, a player in the mould Busceats role. Well we do have one in the shape of Victor Wanyama. Both are defensive midfields, both can slot back and play CB or make it a 5 at the back. VW will be a massive plus in the CL stages.

  20. Paul67. a great result last night 2-0 away from home against a team that had us under the cosh for long periods.

Fraser Forster mom closely followed by Thomas Rogne.

4 of us from Stockholm sat behind Forsters goal and during that first 45min we just looked on in disbelief, after a brilliant Commons goal we wittnesed a rerun of the Utrech game but this time we had big Fraser in the way.

We looked better in the second half up until Samaras scored i would have accepted 1-1.

Kayal,Broonie and Ledley dont look fit.

This game is far from over, we cannot let this team take over like they did last night.

Traditionalist 88 and Estadio (and anyone else who has posted that I haven’t reached yet) many thanks for giving the CL dates so quickly.

I think it is because he doesn’t really have any pace.

In a division where he gets on the end of things he is an asset so he’d do well in the SPL but not in the EPL.

For the money they want I think we can get better value elsewhere.

  27. Bampot – yes, FF was very much in command last night… And wee Izzy wasn’t going to argue with big FF!

Thanks for your response. So we need to pay upwards of £4million for a player who is really only capable of succeeding in the SPL? I know that’s not how you mean it but that about sums him up.

I cannot fathom this clamour for a player few have seen play.

I think that if Blackburn get 6M bids turned down we are gonna have to spend a lot more and I simply do not see it as value for money.

Ambrose, Henriksen and Russell or an EPL loan plus Fraser Forster makes better sense for similar money.
