Conflict of interest Ogilvie

860

As newco chief executive, Derek Llambias reported to his AGM yesterday, he meets the SFA today to discuss further involvement of Newcastle United owner, Mike Ashley at his club.  Ashley is nearing the end of a power-struggle between his faction, which appears to include the Easdale brothers, and pretty-much everyone else who goes to Ibrox, as well as Dave King and other worthies noticeable by their absence when the assets of oldco were to be paid for.

One of this morning’s newspapers appears to suggest SFA board member Peter Lawwell may retire from this meeting on account of him apparently having a conflict of interest, however, I believe this would be extraordinarily unlikely.  Peter is no more or less incentive to see business being conducted appropriately than anyone else.

That’s not to say there’s not a conflict of interest.  SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, will also attend the meeting.  Ogilvie passed his Rangers shares to his wife when he became an executive director of Hearts.  SFA Articles of Association expressly forbids a person from having an influence with one club while “directly or indirectly” being a shareholder in another without the prior written consent of the SFA.

Mr Ogilvie may have attained prior written consent of the SFA on this subject before accepting the Hearts job, but if he did, I don’t see the need to transfer his shares to a family member.  This makes Ogilvie look like a tawdry ducker and diver, wholly inappropriate to lead the Association. If I was Llambias I’d challenge Ogilvie the first moment he opened his mouth.

As I said earlier in the week, don’t get too hung up on Ashley’s shareholding.  If it proves a stumbling block he could play The Offshore Game and quickly disinvest to an entity based in the British Virgin Islands (seems to be the hot location for these types), the control of which could never be traced to him.

Those hoping the SFA will inhibit Ashley’s land-grab of retail and other rights are also likely to be disappointed.  JJB and Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan established precedent that he was able to conclude extensive trading contract with other clubs while in charge of Wigan without compromising multi-ownership principles.  Ashley can own and exploit all commercial rights of newco.

The key point Ashley will be concerned about in SFA rules is article 13. (3), which forbids persons from having “any power whatsoever to influence the management or administration of another club”.

The rules permit the SFA to grant Ashley permission to increase his shareholding but the phrase “any power whatsoever” is patently clear.  Ashley cannot appoint board members or offer loan players.

The Dear Green Place

Yesterday’s uncertainty alarmed many in Glasgow but the reality of the news brought disaster to some.  May God help each of them.

There’s always a spring in the step when news of our pal Kano arrives.  That changed when I opened the email from Carolyn yesterday to hear Martin was in Intensive Care.  We know through his time on the blog that Kano brought vigour and resolve to his life years before his illness struck.  If anyone can overcome this, it’s him.

  1. You’ve not seen proof that it even exists? Despite the leaked drafts all over the place and Charles Green stating that he thought it was illegal?

As I’ve said before, I think the SFA is as bent as a pirates sword, could I prove it, I doubt it, but let’s see how resolution 12 goes never mind what I think, there are a lot more cleverer men on that one than me, time will tell. You do know of course who your up against here?

  5. Being a dinosaur, I prefer a front two and hope Ronnie reverts to this. Having two playing near one another and building an understanding is preferable for me, rather than the isolated striker with any of the supposed wide two failing to provide support.

We dominated Dundee United but shot ourselves in the foot. Too many defenders forging forward too often for my liking. Let’s have four defenders who can defend, without being bullied by the links of Ciftci, 3 solid midfielders and either a wide-player or creative type free to assist the front two, please Santa.

The boy McGinn and Armstrong both look decent and McGinn provides the bonus of playing for the jerseys. When the deidboys are back, we’ll need a bit more bite to help Brown and he’d provide that.

  9. Question –

anyone know if the free ticket for the unemployed offer , is available on the day of the game ?

  10. I see it like this….there can only be two reasons or trying to resurrect the Old Firm.

    Bigotry, and Money.

I will have no part in their squalid sectarianism.

The Celtic and Sevco board seem very similar to me…..lets make money out of bigotry.

Yeah, they can go right ahead….but I think that ship has sailed.

I wont be lining the pockets of bigots….and I wont be the only one.

These businessmen think they only have to play the bigot card….it wont work this time.

TD67. Your still expecting a clear cut answer to resolution 12. Tony make sure your chimney is cleaned for tonight so Santa can get down and leave him a glass of milk and a mince pie. H.H. :-)

  12. Stewart Regan:Scottish FA will issue a statement via at 1pm following the Board to Board meeting with #Rankers FC yesterday.

  13. Can’t see any change of formation for Ross County. Scepovic will likely come in for Guidetti and Griffiths might get a start in a wide position. Don’t expect any other changes unless there are injuries or a too much xmas pudding situation.

Actually if you read my post again, that’s basic.y my point, smarter men than me are going against them, and I doubt they will get a result, .

But you can’t say that here , you’ll upset the Riot Club.

Should be interesting, I’m looking for a nothing to see hear kinda statement?

  17. We played two up front against Killie and it worked well. Both JG & SS scored and linked well together. We should start with that duo on Saturday and give JF a free role behind them.

tonydonnelly67. So if they cannot get a result from a board who do not want a dialogue with the support. Would you not even consider they may have something to hide ? The support deserve an answer as in my opinion the support is the club. H.H.

  20. TD67 – unfortunately I find myself quite busy so I can’t be giving you a plethora of links to articles mentioning it. Now I know the MSM is not to be taken that seriously biut with all the mentions it had, if there had been no agreement do you not think either the administrative bodies or the clubs would have refuted it by now?

Here’s one mention in The Scotsman of it.

Anybody can say what they like on the blog…..but your faith in the Celtic board is sadly misplaced.

You actually believe, that businessmen such as Big Peter, have the best interests of Celtic at heart….they don’t.

Its people like me….and you, and everybody on CQN, who have Celtic at heart.

Businessmen are guided by personal gain….don’t let them fool you, they don’t care what we think.

Its all about the money…..and Big Peter is raking it in, while the team is downsized.

    Skewed priorities there im afraid.

    Its called Capitalism….look it up.

Ah, were did the ‘riot club’ go?

Ye know what…the ‘riot club’ were the only ones who seen to it that the huns were dealt true justice on the pitch at Hampden 1980.

The most prolific example of hun skelping since the Mr Stein era – surely?

    The Mr Stein era

    The Mr McNeill era

    The Mr Hay era

The Wim & Murdo hunskelping season(in spite of Fergus)

    Happy Hoopy Days

I’ve never liked Hearts FC going away back to when I used to go up there to Tynecastle in the early 70’s as a wee bhoy with my green & white hooped crash helmet on and the Hearts fans used to throw tatties wi razor-blades in them aye, they were a bad lot so they were but, I admire the structure that they’ve put in place in the football management side of things.

If Santa’s lurking I’d like a similar structure at CP…along the lines of…

    Anne Budge – Jeanette Findlay

Craig Levein – big Mark McGhee

    Robbie Neilson – Willie McStay

Nae DD, PL or the ‘bored’ just fans like Jeanette Findlay who – eat, sleep and breathe Celtic Football Club and would fight their cause till their last breath not – take yer money then lock you out – that has to stop – only you can – will you?

Or, will ye wait till the cheating mibbery assisted huns come back – by hook or by crook – and put ye in yer place again Timmy?

If yer still lurking Santa – please bring a new Jungle on the back of yer sleigh.

Please Tims – wisen-up and don’t be fooled by the ‘boreds’ carefully planted lackeys who’ll spin you smoke-screen after, smoke-screen about a load of hun p#sh just to take ye off the scent of the ‘looting’ thats going on in the Celtic ‘bored’ room.

It’s your money – were is it?

It’s your club – go get it.

Merry Christmas – Off oot – bye.

Probably about the same. But one thing about NL he had more than one system. Especially away in Europe.

Did he really?Well if you say so.

Lenny must have been off sick when we went through the humiliation off Sion, and losing a 2 goal lead from home and getting humped 4-0 by those giants of football,Utrecht.

One good season in the CL,with one win away from home against 10 men, does not equate to a success in away games.

Losing cup ties to Ross County,Killie,St Mirren,Hearts,Aberdeen(twice),Morton are all conveniently forgotten when attacking RD.

Lenny, who I loved, had 4 years to get it right. He did on some occasions, but failed miserably in the cups.He had on the whole his own team to play his way,RD has not had that chance yet.He has had loanees, the majority have flopped,he has had long term injuries to Broony,Lustig,Denayer,Forrest, players who have not played to anything like previous,Mathews,Efe,Mulgrew lost form, hopefully only temporary. He has tried to bring in a more modern style of play and living ethos that players need time to adjust to.

He was a stranger to Scottish football himself.Opposition, from other teams and our friends the officials.

The position we find ourselves in,domestically, and in Europe after Xmas, seems to me to be a wonderful achievement for his first 6 months in charge. His style of play, has probably given this team as many goalscoring chances than we have had in previous full seasons.

But just my opinion.I am sure not shared by many.At the end of the season we will see who was right.

  25. The Green Man,

I do not think it was excuse making or posturing by PL when he claimed the fear of a hun backlash of violence.Without Celtic coming out and decrying them,Hun media is already awash with threats of violence at the semi finalYears of pent up bigotry and impotence to get back at us are at boiling point.

We have seen in the not too distant past,Murders,Bombs, bullets, assaults, threats, being effected on the Celtic support and employees of the club.Would you be happy if Celtic issued a statement, worthless, except to yourself and the other fans, who rightly feel indignant, and with this statement appeased you all,if in doing so it caused any violence,or God forbid, the death of any Celtic fan?.

Its all very well sitting at a keyboard issuing demands to the board.Never think for a second their could be dire consequences. We are not dealing with normal people here,as we have witnessed. You know it,we all know it.

  26. Celtic and “Rangers” represent 80% of Scottish football – what happens if, as some desire, the Ibrox mob go down and this time they are OUT! – That would be 40%

The SPFL would attract around 60,000 in total to all games with Celtic playing at home, and 30,000 in total with Celtic playing away.

These figures are on a par with the English Conference.

Long term there would be no sponsors and no television contract worth signing – maybe BBC Alba would step in (God forbid)

I want to see the Ibrox club held to account for ALL they have done.

Without the two ‘big beasts’ in Scotland, our beloved Celtic will ‘wither on the vine’ regardless how well we run our affairs.

Is this what we really want – to kill off almost half our game and for our club to be reduced, because of others wrongdoings.

    There must be another way.

Be careful what you wish for!!!
