Contrasting Christie when he’s moved right

433

That’s five consecutive wins after the post-isolation debacle in January but Aberdeen have never come closer to scoring in their six games without a goal than at Celtic Park last night.  The game was decided by the excellent 30-yard strike from David Turnbull that found the corner of the net and the almost-as-good shot from Aberdeen’s Kamberi that struck the post.

Celtic mastered the opening 30 minutes as Aberdeen were content to sit off, but there was no fluidity to our passing from the moment the visitors pressed.  This run of wins is as much as we can ask of the team right now, but it was far from reassuring.

I don’t think I have seen as big a contrast in a player’s performance when he switches positions than that of Ryan Christie, who looks like a £20m player in the No. 10 role and appears anonymous on the right.  For a whole raft of reasons, it is right to retain David Turnbull in the 10 role, but Ryan needs to do his work in the middle of the field.  When he stops deputising for injured James Forrest he should be cover for Turnbull or Neil needs to find him a deeper role.

  1. The level of energy and pace with the huns is marked when you compare to us most of the time. Their weak spot is the amount of players they get in the box and in the press. Once a team gets past it, they can score. Played like that at CP but it needed 2 set pieces to win. We were rubbish but any time we passed through the press we nearly scored against the run of play.

They played completely differently at Ibrox where they sat back, scared of our passing . Got away with it as we should have score 2 first half.

In summary, it is a really high energy and exciting approach they have but a ‘cool head’ team can score easily against them

A couple of posts earlier about reform of European football seemed to concentrate on the possible negative outcomes but ignored this:

How did you come to a conclusion these comments were ignored?

  5. Great goal. Twerps have loads of players back but they are just subbuteo players. No challenges , just stand there. They really are crap but have scored 3 and nearly 4

  6. As the Huns have played tonight compared with us having played last night, why are they having to KO much earlier than us on Sunday?

  7. Hate them as much as I do , but got to say they have been hard to beat in Europe , the scouser knows the European game alright .

Antwerp are a weird team, only attack in adversity, once Huns score. Look more than capable of scoring but always sit back😵😱

  9. Antwerp chucked it at 3-2 and couldn’t get going again =. Morelos link up play is better than Eduard . Result could have gone either way but if Lennon was managing Rangers tonight – they would have sat in and invited trouble for most of the match.

Gerrard is not that type and knows defending starts with possession.

  10. I don’t understand that tweet.

If it’s what I think it is Celtic have apologised and shown remorse

    What’s he on about?
