County best form in unprecedently tight table

283

Would it upset your equilibrium if I said Ross County are the only team in the league to have won their last three games?  By definition, we play the form side in the division tomorrow.  You think we have plenty to play for?  County are one of six teams competing for three spots in the top half of the table – that’s bonus payments in the pocket of players who will appreciate them.

They came to Celtic Park last season bottom of the table and comfortably knocked a dispirited Celtic out of the League Cup.  Few of the players who will play in green and white tomorrow will relate to that game, but it will be front and centre of the minds of County players.  If they can do it when they were so poor, they can do it tomorrow.

The remaining fixtures favour Celtic: five at home and three away, the assumption being we will win at Celtic Park.  Leagues are won and lost in these weeks, in a unprecedently tight table, no result can be taken for granted.

I wonder if Red Star fans did this 👇 in the 67th minute v the huns??

Tens of thousands of fans of Red Star Belgrade—Serbia’s most popular soccer team—gave a pointed response to the supposedly anti-war west tonight as they held signs showing 20+ countries & the year of their overthrow/invasion by the US.

Really looking forward to the game tomorrow. The Arbroath Emerald Express is full so I hope it is a Happy Bus on the return journey.

Huns lucky again in the European Draw. You would think it was fixed.

    —-

Yes agree – although I have to say that if you easily knock-out Dortmund, you deserve a bit of luck. There seems to be a bit of inevitability creeping in about their EL progress…..I’m sorry to say.

I am sure Ange will be observing closely on the basis of – if the club lying in second-place can achieve such, why can’t the team at the top of the league do likewise……a conundrum indeed.

Milk round – first with the co-op then with small farm near rutherglen.

Lucky because it was all private semis in the King’s park area.

  5. Forget about lucky draws etc. The most likely reasion the Huns do quite well in Europe is because they are not as bad as many on here claim. They are either the best or second best team in Scotland. Perspective is required.

Agree also with you, in addition to my 2:40 reply to BIGBHOY.

Yes to perspective….and can we add-in context. ‘They’ have had incremental improvement in Europe since SG walked in the door at Ibrox….we shouldn’t be surprised. It will make it all the more sweet if we can ‘land’ the title – the ba’s at oor feet!!!

  8. The Huns beat Braga home and away 2 years ago, so this is the best draw they could have hoped for. I guess fortune favours the bankrupt.

    Some good news there.

Agreed, “soon” for Kyogo is of course a relative term but I’d hope to see him on the bench when we visit Mordor. As for tomorrow, 1500 Saturday kick off on a sunny Saturday afternoon with a full house, what’s not to like. I also have (and I have absolutely no info to back this up) a sneaky suspicion that we may see Julien start tomorrow and partner Carter-Vickers.

  10. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Didn’t pay any attention to Sevco matches in Europe or the draw.

    Not specifically interested.

I’d make a couple of general observations

    1. Can’t have it both ways.

They’ll either get a big club in a big league treating EL as priority 2

Or a smaller club who give EL a serious priority 1.

I reckon they’ve got the latter here

    2. Beyond the advantage it gives us in the league race why care?

By my fag packet maths, Sevco will net c£3.5m from each of last 16 / QF ties?

    Around £7m in total.

    A lot of money.

Until you look at the bigger picture.

Before the season started they would likely have had two baselines in mind.

Higher water mark – Champions League Qualification

Lower water mark – elimination at CL qualifying stage followed by EL last 32.

    They didn’t achieve the first.

They didn’t achieve first part of the second (thanks to pesky Malmö) and lost out on €5m (c.£4.5m)

If my fag packet maths holds ? …

… by overachieving on the second part of the second

They are £2.5m ahead of the low water mark.

    Whoop-dee-do.

Think it was Madmitch who called it earlier?

They need to win in Europe to eat.

  11. !!bada bing!!

  17. Our only concern should be what we do ‘on the pitch’ and what the Ibrox club do ‘on the pitch’. What we do affects them, and, vice-versa.

Whatever machinations go on at the top of an Ibrox marble staircase strewn with confetti shares, should be of no concern to us, unless laws, football, or, otherwise, are being broken.

An ‘Rangers’ institution, in one form, or, another, will always exist to confront us – the constituency is too big to believe otherwise – let’s concentrate on football!

  18. Fantastic finish to the Gold Cup at Cheltenham

And another great win for Rachel Blackmore on the aptly named A Plus Tard

Aptly, because as he went in front of Minello Indo over the last fence it was very much

    See You Later!

  19. I was a milk boy over an extensive area of Castlemilk. 6 days a week- double delivery on Thursdays to get Friday off 6.30-8.30 am. Then had to collect payment Friday night- 2 hours and 1 hour each on Saturday and Sunday for those unable or unwilling to pay you on Friday nights. Hated it at the time but I think it put the strength in my legs to have a decent career in my sport and still have some leg and lung fitness to this day.

Teachers disapproved and wanted me to concentrate on academic work instead of turning up late and knackered and smelling of milk but none of them had any idea of how to replace the money I would have lost by giving up.

  20. And the thought of a gelding winning the big prize…..

It’s taken till A Plus Tard for me to have a winner in the itv7 today, so another week goes by without me claiming the prize.

CliftonCelt earlier today. You’ll find it’s a replacement bus service on the Glasgow Central low-level train line suggested to you, for the next several weeks. A walk along the Gallowgate is probably the best alternative.

  23. CLIFTONCELT

Be aware there are restrictions on the motorway(m8) between the airport and Glasgow. Major roadworks and average speed cameras (40mph). So don’t hang around after the game if your tight for time for your flight. Good luck and I hope we all enjoy a comfortable winning afternoon.

Memory from milk run was people sleeping up the closes and my pals big brother (driver) shouting out….right…Wilson 2pints, Mcintosh 2pints and Piden a pint.

That was my rollerskating money, being going backwards ever since.

  26. Braga got direct entry to the Europa Group stage and took 7 points from 3 home games beating Midjtyland and Ludogorets 3:1 and 4:2 respectively- they drew 1:1 with Red Star Belgrade. Away from home, they lost narrowly to the Danes and Serbs but beat the Bulgarians.

So far, nothing spectacular to worry the huns. They beat Moldovans Tiraspol after extra time but then beat Monaco 2:0 at home before drawing 1;1 away from home.

They are 4th in the Primers Liga behind the Big 3 clubs but they are a good deal better than our 3rd placed team Hearts. They have been recently occupying 3rd to 5th slot in the league so they are quite consistent. They won the Portuguese Cup last season and the League Cup the year before. They have finished first (2x) and second (1x) in the 3 recent seasons of Europa League. Their captain is 2nd top scorer in the Primera Liga with 15 (19 goals in total this season). They are the bookie’s favourites to win at home; I don’t thnk the Huns have an easy passage at all.
