  2. I can’t believe that those involved with negotiating a contract with Sky for such a poor deal in relation to British football have the audacity to point fingers at their member clubs and say we need it!

It should not be £16 million we are talking about, it’s a £100 million.

    1. “its terrible” – question for Ally….did you receive your salary last week ? Did you receive it the week before that ? Will you receive it next week ? Yes ? – therefore….WHY is it terrible ?

    2. “the people that deserve the biggest apology is our fans” – question for Ally…..WHY ? Your fans had a very good time for the past 20 years ! They “won” (i.e. STOLE !!) several league championships ! They sat about drinking tea instead of investigating the problems of the club ! They dissed reports coming out of Donegal (so it was Paddy!) saying that the club was going down the tubes ! They are LARGELY to blame for this shambles !

    3. agreed – it is disappointing that other clubs have cancelled recent fixtures while fans have already made and paid for travel arrangements – but whose fault was it in the first place

    4. Ally STILL disnae get it !! – his take is that of those he is rubbing shoulders with on a daily basis – i.e. a big boy did it and ran away !

and it suits him fine cos of Item No1 above – salary still coming !! Someone really should bring him up to speed with the truth of the matter – one would think he is acting dumb deliberately !?!

SFL clubs should seek the views of their fans as with the SPL clubs and unlike Michael Johnston vote appropriately.

hamiltontim – What could stop SKY from stipulating that, as part of the contract, 20 hun games a season (or something in that region) are live on one of their 4 channels.

The contract itself could stop that. A contract is basically just an agreement between two parties to do something in exchange for some form of consideration. Sky can’t simply unilaterally demand changes to their existing contract with the SPL and expect the SPL to comply. That’s not how contracts work.

I have no idea what the SPL’s contract with Sky looks like though. It could well turn out to be a bad bargain on the SPL’s part. Present and previous senior office bearers in the Scottish game don’t fill me with confidence. (thumbsup)

So after my length piece last night I decided to do some digging around in the SFL Constitution. And I found the reason SPL 2 is a bluff.

The clubs forming SPL 2 would have to come from the SFL structure. They would have to submit their resignations from that league. Say there were ten of them. In order for the resignations to be accepted 66% of all the clubs would have to vote in favour of EACH individual registration for it to happen immediately … otherwise the notice period is TWO YEARS.

And then what would be the point? The total destruction of the Scottish game for what? If we assume NewCo wins two automatic promotions then they’d be dismantling the whole structure for an extra year …. which they might not even get in any case … Because …

…. in order to complete the project, the entire league structure would have to be torn down and rebuilt, with the SFL itself having to wind up and reform in some brand new fashion. To do that requires each member club be given THREE years notice … except in the case of a special resolution to dissolve at once being voted for … and that takes a 75% majority.

Never going to happen my friends. As I suspected … it’s a bluff.

  7. philly – i want transparency! What is contained in the contract?

I do not believe that Sky or anyone else is in a position to demand the ex-huns thingy is treated differently in any manner. They signed a contract to show footy but this has been blurred by the Roncaster. IMO Huns not there? Tough!

    Chic video.

Your proposal is one plan, I had not in my wildest dreams imagined. Yet there is something in it that is simple and doable.

But alas, as long as we have administrative insular nest feathering in Scottish football, it will never get off the ground. Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas. The three drongos leading the game in Scotland are bereft of altruistic ideals.

They have shown by their incompetence, belligerence and downright disrespectful impudence that they would not get a job in the FA cleaning urinals, never mind executive positions.

First, we have to dismantle the psychology of permanent untouchables in Scotland. No matter what place Rangers will take in Scottish football, what we must attack is the blasé attitude to their criminality.

The agenda has been co-opted by the SF CEO’s and the Scottish press (no matter what Mr Traynor imagines) to one of economics.

I repeat at the risk of eroding the point, that they have almost forgotten that the most important issues to be decided by the will of the Footballing Community and not them, is how to deal with issues of cheating and criminality.

It is obvious beyond reasonable doubt that Rangers FC have cheated their fans and their fellow clubs and their fans, of fair play.

It is obvious beyond reasonable doubt that Rangers FC have cheated the people of the UK of fiscal revenue.

These are serious issues of criminality.

So as you would expect, those in corridors of Justice in Scotland, would act swiftly and decisively to punish the offenders and show the rest of the European community of Footballing clubs, that football in Scotland is a clean sport, devoid of favour or maladministration.

    No.

What has developed, is a war of attrition against truth and justice.

What has developed is an agenda of turning the tables on the innocent.

We hear words like “revenge, spite, iniquity” being levelled at the innocent parties of this saga.

If ever there was a moment in the history of the game in Scotland to change things, it is here and now.

Not, let’s change the rules to accommodate cheats.

Not, let’s change the rules to accommodate sponsorship money over morality.

Not, let’s change the rules to accommodate a new league, pretending it’s part of some utilitarian project.

The change we need to see is an outright rejection of Corporate over Community.

The change we need to see is an outright rejection of Cronyism over Candour.

The change we need to see is an outright rejection of Criminality over Conduct.

    Conduct, Community, Candour.

Anything else is a cancer in the bones of the game. Hiding their until it is too late to do anything about. Rangers being a case in point.

I implore those who have influence and determination, not to accept anything that involves short cuts and shambolic malfeasance to frog march an organisation that has shown scant disregard for Conduct, Community, Candour; back into the game.

  9. James Forrest – well done, it is truly remarkable the guys running the game don’t know their own rules. Remarkable but not surprising unfortunately. There have been lies and bluffing all along.

The SFL clubs will vote know, STENNY’s statement was a joke, but it was based o the joke figures presented by the authorities.

    Great work JF

which explains why talk of an SPL2 parachute has been replaced by an SPL1.

If you were Falkirk or Dunfermline how do you think your chances of promotion would be affected when playing a weakened Newco? it would be 2010 honest mistakes all over again.

Now a 25 point deduction would reduce that possibility but as a quick return to the SPL is the aim no surprise that has not been suggested.

The next task is to find out who the main commercial sponsors of the Scottish game are. That will put us on the right track.

And what is the right track? Simple.

We have smart guys on this site. If we look over the figures Stenhousemuir put up tonight, I am sure it would be easy to check some data and find out how many current Sky subscribers would have to cancel in order to offset the cut in TV money threatened by that ludicrous set of figures.

If enough people were encouraged to do so – and using social media is it impossible to imagine? – we might just tip Sky’s hand and force them to actually give us some FACTS … or a commitment to stay the course.

The same would apply to the other sponsors.

Does anyone want to take a stab at it ?

  18. Auldheid – thanks. Am just surprised that Sky – who has allegedly been `demanding’ the now extinct Old Firm play 4 games a season. Given the current situation and need to look again at our `product’ minus Hun FC I am amazed that they haven’t voiced their concerns in the MSM.

I can only speak for club licensing where an SPL license is covered by UEFA FFP criteria which the SFA would need UEFA approval to grant exceptions to.

National Club Licensing would fall under SFA authority to change according to their rules for changing.

As a rule of thumb rules applying to the running of the organisation are the organisations province whilst rules affecting the game itself eg no offside need higher approval.

I see someone (your good self!) beat me to it. So ….

Social media can spread this plan far and wide. We have a week, call it five days if you will, to get a definitive comment … or face the consequences.

    See, they know two things:

    1) That a statement of intent, along with a commitment to the game, would go a long way towards making friends they don’t have right now

    2) That although the vote may take place the campaign will still go on …. It won’t end just because a decision has been made one way or the other

Five days. Is it enough? Spread the word. Let’s find out.

The current number of subscribers to Celtic TV is unknown and I assume for commercial reasons Celtic don’t publish the figure.

However, I doubt that it would rise to 20K.

Perhaps it would increase with the demise of the Sky contract?

I know you’ll be in bed by now (probably with a small green pea beneath your mattress) but you may pick this up tomorrow.

My point is that if a hun team exists in Scottish football next season then surely an agreement could be reached between the footballing authorities and SKY which would see their games televised live once or twice a fortnight. This way SKY would still have Celtic and thems on their channels on a regular basis limiting the numbers who might cancel subscriptions.

You and I might not want to watch them but I’m pretty sure that you’d have fairly large numbers who would love to watch the huns whilst chewing their toe nails on a Sunday afternoon.
