CQN Vanessa Riddle Fundraiser

1180

I’m enjoying the chat as much as anyone these days but I know you all remember what were really about as a club.  We have an update on the CQN Vanessa Riddle pop quiz fundraiser which will be held at Jury’s hotel, Glasgow on the evening of Saturday February 11.

The great news is that Frank O’Hagan has agreed to come along and do a set to close the quiz off. Frank’s third CD – Green Light to Freedom – will be mixed and mastered in the studio over the next month. Frank is also doing a concert with his band in the Backstage at the Green Hotel, Kinross on Saturday 18th February. Details are on Frank’s website web. Frank is a top class musician is a terrific live performer. He is also a lovely guy, so we’re just absolutely over the moon to have Frank along. Our good friends at Carling are donating some prizes too, which is also excellent news.

We have some spaces left so if you want to come along, visit Taggsybhoy’s music quiz homepage and contact him with your team name and numbers (max of 6 to a  team). He will let you know if you are successful. It is first come, first served. Vanessa Riddle Appeal

I’m off to contemplate the false value of cheap laptop hard disks. One day lost and counting, damn you HP!

Non OF caller hits the nail on the head –

If you have a chance to win, people will turn out.

That is the only argument required to quash Newco Animals from division 3 upwards

    ——————————

Funnily even if their team has no chance of winning they still turn out but that is because the reason is they are playing against a club with a much bigger support and so more income.

However when you have a bigger support and still have no chance of winning because the main oppostion resort to dubious methods to negate that advantage, then support will diminish.

If Scottish football needs Rangers as presently constituted then why is our game in so big a mess?

Its not Rangers Newco we want emerging from this mess of football’s own making its Scottish Football Newco that we need.

I’d vote for that option. A few seasons in the Championship not a problem – with the revenue it would give us time to build a team that would firstly and most importantly survive the initial couple of seasons in the EPL. From then on I believe with our fan base and the revenue we could generate we could be challenging for Europe a season or 2 after that. Would the majority of our fans be willing to forego 6+ seasons without Europe – given the opportunity the pain would be worth it. Unfortunately all mere conjecture at present.

  3. I am afraid I can’t spill, quite yet.

I think we all know what’s coming, though.

I swear to post it as soon as I am allowed.

  5. In from work and catchin up on today. Only skimmed back on here quickly ,but BBC news story about a guy convicted of posting bile about Lenny has set me off. Can I assume that others who posted equally offensive stuff (report says someone offered to ‘pull the trigger’) will be equally hunted ? If not why not. Same crime. (BTW typo in the story – says the guy is 24)

  6. Sky can and probably will control our destiny. If they are aggresive enough and want Celtic in English football they will make it happen. The sticking point is the powers that be in Europe under what circumstances would they allow Celtic to leave. What about a nice scandel to hit our governing body. Now I wonder what that could be.

This could be what we have been waiting for mi amigo, DD has been clear from the start that he wants out of this hell hole.

The likes of Sky know the value is with us and not thems, aye 4 derby games a year are a good money spinner, but when any newco comes into being, they won’t be the same, the hun are virtually no more.

That caller was correct and research must be done regarding attendances in the 1980s for football clubs up and down the country to see where we lie.

One fella on here was telling us all that Hearts’ attendances went up in the season that Romanov took over and they have retained a lot of those fans who wouldn’t have been there before.

A study into Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hibs and Hearts from 1980 – 1987 must be the starting point and indeed clubs like St Mirren must be included.

Cross reference this with cup runs from the current sides and you’ll see a pattern – when there is a chance of winning, they come.

    ——————————————————————————————————————

I posted this on James Forrest’s facebook wall:

Ach, anyone wanting to see what crowds could be like with the orcs kaput, should look no further than the last time sheepies won the league back in 84-85 – their lowest crowd of that season tops their average for the last 30 months.

Or season 87-88, when Dundee United played in front of an aggregate crowd just shy of 200,000 in the Scottish Cup. That’s right, in one cup competition they played in front of about 38,000 less than watched the orcs progress to the final of both cups last season.

“the hun are virtually no more.”

    ——————————————

they will actually be no more. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, but is legally forbidden from being a duck, it cannot be a duck. Newco will not be Rangers. Though I get what you mean, being a hun is about more than just being a Rangers fan.

Can IPTV Save Celtic and the SPL Nae Rangers:

The latter does not include Hearts replacing Rangers by having their own channel which could increase the earnings by 30 to 50% as opposed to the 100% in the orginal. table above

The figures are guesses but give an idea of what could be earned by the SPL clubs selling all their games.

  13. Trust me, I want to be the first to break the news, but I have standards (kinda).

I do not believe that there is anything to prevent Celtic joining the English leagues apart from acceptance by the English FA and Celtic showing due diligence in following rules regarding resigning from the SFA. There are numerous instances of teams in Europe playing in domestic leagues out with their country of origin. Monaco, Derry Celtic, Cardiff, Swansea for instance. Also EU regulations regarding business and trade may be in our favour. I am sure there are many posters on here more knowledgeable and perhaps I am being overly simplistic.

Aye. The scandal is their silence on how this happened on their watch.

  18. If one consequence of their demise is our being allowed to enter the Championship, that would be an incredible bonus. I feel we would be able to build a team for the EPL in a few years. From there, we could surely begin to realise our potential.
