Dateline 66-67: Celts open League Cup defence at Tynecastle

1034

The Football Specials will be packed today with optimistic Celtic fans ahead of their opening competitive game of season 1966-67 at Tynecastle.  The Glasgow club hope to win the League Cup for the fourth time in their history. They face a Hearts team looking to win the League Cup for the firth time, which last season became increasingly dependent on lightning-fast striker, Willie Wallace.

By comparison, the reigning Division One and League Cup champions have two of the best wingers in the country. Bobby Lennox and Jimmy Johnstone were the only Celtic players to score in their final eight competitive games of last season, as Jock Stein’s team’s fitness proved crucial with a barrage of late goals.

St Mirren visit Clyde in the other Group 4 game, the only group with all Division One teams, but it’s the two giants who meet in Edinburgh who are favourites to produce the group winner.

While Celtic PLC do SFA and we sign up to it that’s just the way it’s going to stay.

When the cacaphony and awareness rises we will as usual be afforded a few honest mistakes which will be highlighted in the extreme, over analysed to scientific measure and then it’ll go back to business and bonuses as usual.

Until CELTIC PLC give 2 monkeys more than business and bonuses and do SFA. It is what it is.

    Ignore. Bin. Ignore. Bin.

The like Celtic PLC do SFA to enforce.

But unlike Celtic PLC that’s because they can’t. Their wee notices cost them money to send so just keep ignoring and binning.

Forget about shopping and receipts. You don’t need them.

  3. Right now, the Celtic board are in a hotel in Ireland having dinner and drinks with the board of Internazionale and various sponsors, while on Celtic Quick News, they are being criticised and ridiculed because they haven’t issued a statement about a refereeing decision made two hours ago in Scotland in a game they have no involvement with.

It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so tragic.

It’s more to do with historical inaction and doing SFA over one or two mistakes made today in isolation. I’m pretty sure you understand that? And I’m pretty sure you don’t expect that any of us expect Peter to leave his succulent Lamb to go cold and his finest of red wine to be left to over airate and call a media conference in Limerick.

    C’mon! We aren’t that daft.

Time was the mineshafters were in the minority. On this site, that has changed dramatically in my seven years

That SHOULD worry the board. That it doesn’t,worries me.

  11. Didn’t see the Hun game but in the first place it is up to Dundee to make initial noises. All we can do is to highlight & diary every contentious decision. We need to keep a roll of dishonour & let the Orange Barstewards know about it. First entry Honest Mistake Hertz penalty Beaton, Second Entry, Ref bottles clear sending off of Hun player, Thomson.

There will be no retro action on Ferrester.

The ref saw it and made a decision. A free kick and no cards.

TRUE. I used to be a happy clapper, then a fence sitter, but I’m about 100ft below ground now. I remember having serious go’ sat Sid, KevJ and Neg. But there comes a time when the green tinted specs have to come off and reality is faced down. The PLC have been great for the business and bonuses but that has been to the detriment of the businesses main product and focus. That, to give the PLC (or DD) credit has changed this year and swing back in the products favour. But assisted cheating on behalf of New Rangers I fear will be a step to far for them to take on.

Any you guys help me here ? Someone I know was over for the Champions League game game on 3/8/16 and parked the car at the Forge shopping centre, I have just received a letter from Smart Parking advising that if I don’t pay £45 within 14 days I will have to pay £90 as a parking charge.

Has anyone else had this shit and what’s the craic with it? What’s the best way to deal with it. I live in N. Ireland, is this enforceable ?

  20. Yogihughes

No reason not to park there again. It is against the law for a private company to enforce non parking in a car park like the forge. They legally cannot clamp your car and if they remove it it is theft. It is not like illegally parking on the street.

    100% unenforceable accross the board.

As a regular weekly cash paying customer at Celtic ParkI have every confidence in the new managers abilities to be able to progress this team so far that any amount of so called honest mistakes will be an irrelevance in Celtics bid to retain the title.

I know all that. They are rank and we will finish well above them. Despite the best efforts of the SFA and SPFL we will win the league comfortably. I don’t even care if they get a European place because they won’t get by the first qualifying round.

We are so far ahead of them it’s unbridgeable in the near future. 10 in a row us beckoning.
