Dateline 66-67: Celts open League Cup defence at Tynecastle

1034

The Football Specials will be packed today with optimistic Celtic fans ahead of their opening competitive game of season 1966-67 at Tynecastle.  The Glasgow club hope to win the League Cup for the fourth time in their history. They face a Hearts team looking to win the League Cup for the firth time, which last season became increasingly dependent on lightning-fast striker, Willie Wallace.

By comparison, the reigning Division One and League Cup champions have two of the best wingers in the country. Bobby Lennox and Jimmy Johnstone were the only Celtic players to score in their final eight competitive games of last season, as Jock Stein’s team’s fitness proved crucial with a barrage of late goals.

St Mirren visit Clyde in the other Group 4 game, the only group with all Division One teams, but it’s the two giants who meet in Edinburgh who are favourites to produce the group winner.

  1. Just saw Liam Touhy former Shamrock Rovers player & former Irish Manager has passed away at the age of 83.

Always had a soft spot for Liam, with his constant smile & his Dub accent. May he rest in Peace.

So Ronny Delia et al were complicit in the cunning cheating plan judging by the way they capitulated in the Scottish Cup semi final last season giving the Hun the opportunity to win their first big domestic trophy.

Oh by the way you may have failed to notice or maybe it doesn’t fall in with your cheating theory but they were roundly humped in that final by the better team

  3. It’s okay scullybhoy et al. I am as kev says, off oot.

Besides there really isn’t much to say these days. The pantomime continues and people just like to say ” oh no he didn’t, oh yes he did” etc.

    Have a nice evening all.

Are you still sitting at the back of the bus?

The back of the bus, they cannae sing, the back of the bus, they cannae sing

The front of the bus is better.

Stop acting like a whingeing, moaning person.

Get off your knees and support the Celtic.

  5. Most Celtic fans get a dose of the NEGANON2’S from time to time, it’s just a question of degrees.

Why do Celtic play in Scotland and accept the cards we’re given?, others will decide ‘just beat them’.

Fact is we’ve been badly let down by Celtic’s board of directors, especially in the past four years and

their silence will become deafening as the season wears on, especially if BR’s falters.

Craig Thomson is now the senior officer in charge of cheating, and his career is a litany of ‘not seeing’

    what everyone else can.

If the Celtic board didn’t react to the biggest lie of them all there’s little point in reacting to omni present institutional mibbery.

Celtic, its business as usual that why we’re in Limerick not Maryhill.

  6. Practical advice needed afore the footy starts.

I need something that will seal beads for me, I have a load of beads that have been sprayed with colour, it comes off when they are rubbed, I need something that will stop this, some kind of Laquer, any ideas ?

  7. And the site is down in the doldrums again, thankfully the game kicks off in 15 mins

Do posters read what they post, so much contradiction from so many

    Do me a favour.

Get a 10p piece. Toss it 12 times and call heads each time and post your result.

    Go on. Just for fun.

Drawin us in the semi was a guarentees income for them with a big audience away from home. Once again about their financial cut. Them getting past us because of poor management and tactics was an unexpected WONGA bonus for them.

I’ll just list your response in the too blind or stupid to see column.

Thanks for the correspondance anyway. As ever it was erm… enlightening.

  9. BOURNESPICE, Without the open and wholehearted and public support from the rest of Scottish clubs then Celtic are on a doing.

  10. BSR

And it’s also the reason why we didn’t get a proper flag day. That and an excuse for accommodating New Rangers and their more important Fleg day obviously.

  11. Aye that dastardly board accepting an invitation to take part in a group challenge games one of which impacted on a domestic match. Advice for Peter next time you are invited to something similar tell them to stick it and you will arrange your own glamour friendly in Dublin against Barcelona

Been a Perisic fan since Euro 2012. Did well at this year’s event too.

Wolfsburg had a really good team with him and De Bruyne a couple of years back.

  13. NA2

It has been mentioned more than once that the reason Airdrieonians are now called that again is that the legal process of liquidation was completed after 11 or 12 years, thereby no legal impediment exists barring them from registering that name.

Misinformation only adds to the chaos.

Agree, but neither did they seek support which is undoubtedly there.

A token would have done, but nada nothing.

Most clubs supporters do and will continue to openly mock Sevco at home grounds.

Celtic really should draw a line in the sand, surely.

If I start tossing a coin in the hoose at this time on a Saturday night I am sure the missus will think that I’m trying to make a decision wether to take her oot or not .So nae chance

Sadiesbhoy I simply got off the bus.

And yet your are still a Celtic “fan” and still post on a Celtic fan forum, surely if you had any conviction you’d take your own advice (same applies to others on here) and quit completely??

Just logged in again as I had a few minutes before the Celtic game on CELTIC TV!.

Look I know you Scots won’t get what I am about to say but anyway. The biggest lie in my existence is that I live in the ‘Province’ i.e. Ulster. I am forced to list my address as Londonderry. Everyone who works in TV in N.I. is forced to talk about ‘our wee Province’ and ‘our wee country’. What am I to do? Who do I blame for not exposing this lie. Simply fact is that anyone who is semi-intelligent knows the truth but also knows the power of the Orange Order, the Masons and British Intelligence. I am wasting my time if I think that turning my anger towards e.g. the RC Church, SF, SDLP, Celtic etc will in some way mean that there is the remotest possibility of changing the lie. Please understand that it is crap to suggest that Celtic PLC would be able to take on the establishment in the way that some of you suggest they BTW do it best by existing, surviving and winning in such a hostile environment – that is the best way to challenge – and long may it continue – against all the odds. Off to watch the game now.

  18. Where did Cifti get that pace from? I blame Ronny and Pete for making him play with weights in his shorts

  19. big ciftci does well to carry the ball up the wing and get in front of the full back to win us a free kick

  20. Exiled Tim.

Just asked the question you posted to the Dame.

    She recommended yacht varnish.

Not often wrong with the ole diy malarkey.

    Hope this helps.HH
