The Football Specials will be packed today with optimistic Celtic fans ahead of their opening competitive game of season 1966-67 at Tynecastle. The Glasgow club hope to win the League Cup for the fourth time in their history. They face a Hearts team looking to win the League Cup for the firth time, which last season became increasingly dependent on lightning-fast striker, Willie Wallace.
By comparison, the reigning Division One and League Cup champions have two of the best wingers in the country. Bobby Lennox and Jimmy Johnstone were the only Celtic players to score in their final eight competitive games of last season, as Jock Stein’s team’s fitness proved crucial with a barrage of late goals.
St Mirren visit Clyde in the other Group 4 game, the only group with all Division One teams, but it’s the two giants who meet in Edinburgh who are favourites to produce the group winner.

First post, sanctimonious in the extreme IMHO. Football is a matter of views and opinions; they have been getting favourable decisions since 1872 and we still complain thinking it will change? It’s what’s wrong with society? Bollocks.
Don’t accuse me of being an “I’m alright Jack” just because I am saying that we will beat them anyway!
Second post – maybe Hartley said before the interview he wouldn’t discuss the dodgy decisions. Makes him the better man than the Hertz manager.

I’m sure you are intelligent enough to understand that the cup draw cheating predjudice towards assisting the New Rangers financially, affording them home ties, is an effort to earn them the greatest amount of money, provide them with the highest chance to stay in any cup and keep them afloat at this time.
It has nothing to do with disadvantaging is for now!
Referee cheating to help the Huns. What a shocker.
That’s what your Celtic board signed up to.
You can’t complain if you gave the board your money to prop up all this nonsense.
Sorry about that.
Celtic delighted to sign goalkeeper Dorus de Vries
By: Newsroom Staff on 13 Aug, 2016 17:45
CELTIC are delighted to announce that Dorus de Vries has joined the club on a two-year deal. The Dutch goalkeeper has moved to the Scottish champions from Nottingham Forest, where he’s played for the past three years.
Dorus has previously played in Scotland, spending the 2006/07 season with Dunfermline Athletic, before moving to Swansea City, where he worked under current Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, when he took over as Swansea boss in 2010.
After four years with the Welsh club, he joined Wolves and spent two years there before joining Nottingham Forest, and he was voted Player of the Year by the Forest fans last season.
The 35-year-old goalkeeper has a wealth of experience and everyone at Celtic welcomes Dorus to the club and wishes him every success.
The huddle – maybe it’s all part of revelling in their misery, laughing at their delusions of grandeur, looking at the bizarre spectacle of them uns playing at grounds who have hedges for boundaries. I personally enjoyed the humiliation of the journey for ‘the peepul’. It’s light relief when there’s nothing else to do.
I just don’t see any harm in it.
Each to their own
Oh look it’s Robbie Neilson…
There’s always plenty to do
This man city game is dull. Back to the cricket
It’s the ones that put themselves through the enjoyment of watching Hun TV then reporting back to the rest of us on here how bias they are. No shit sherlock
And any appeasers out there who deny that there is cheating. Explain the Jim Farry affair. Explain the politicians in the Scottish parliaments admission they were criminalising Celtic fans to even things up. Explain how the Scottish media, every single one of them, unquestionably accept the big lie, explain how AIRDIRE United suddenly were allowed to be called airdirionians again with every media outlet changing the name overnight.
Even if you want to ignore decision after decision. Even if you buy the statistical improbability of home draw after home draw for the Huns.
When the veil is lifted we get to see a glimpse of Scotland’s racist heart.
Norwich Shef Weds for me
I blame SID for raising the Negnon signal
Sterling has maintained his England form.
Huddle – I have to concede the Rangers to thing is a wee bit odd!
Rangers Tv I mean
England have 67 runs.
Great number
Today’s starting line up v Inter Milan
Fasan
Janko
McCart
Boyar
Izaguirre
Ajer
Henderson
Johansen
Christie
Armstrong
Ciftci
Now they have 69.
Also a good number.
Celtic game on anywhere? Celtic tv perhaps?
Celtic subs :
Ambrose Ralston Miller Doohan Hendry Johnston Aitchison
Line up with weds in mind!
FFS Neg, Thomson bottles sending off a Hun & suddenly it’s the Celtic’s Board’s fault and by extension the fault of our general support.
That is pure nonsense of the highest degree. Celtic play in Glasgow, Glasgow is in Scotland, we either go out of existence or play in the SPFL.
So far this year all at Celtic seem to be pulling in the one direction and we appear to be making decent progress. I know that doesn’t suit your agenda, therefore you will grasp any straw you can but really you can do better than that.

Celtic start 2nd string v Inter Milan by the looks of it. KO 7pm Sky Sports 2
Huddle – thanks.
I never watch the Huns, cant stand them!
Last time I did was away to Motherwell a few years ago when they drew 1-1 to give us pole position in the league in 2008.
We went to Tannadice on the last night of the season, where big JVOH scored the winner and the Dandy Dons pumped the Huns at Pittodrie!
Watched in an Irish pub in Berlin with a few Tims and one Hun who left immediately after the big man scored!
Watched the Leicester game, they were poor, then the Sheep vs. The Diets who probably shaded it. Tony Watt missed a sitter after 86 minutes.
Man City on now till the Hoops come on later.
Lazy day by the telly!
F.C. Internazionale @Inter_en 2m2 minutes ago
Our line-up for #InterCeltic: Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, Ranocchia, Miranda, Nagatomo; Medel, Kondogbia; Eder, Banega, Perisic; Icardi
Inter put out full strength line up – looks a bit of a mismatch against our 2nd string !
Hope KT watches their Croatian Perisic – one of the best left sided players in Europe.
Corkcelt
Yes, some liability does fall on Celtic PLC’s bonus weighted shoulders historically for not acting without fear or favour and doing SFA over the years. Today’s examples are just an extension of that inaction or in other words support of current New Rangers ambitions.

EmbraMike
We should sign Miranda. That would put the finishing feminine touch on our defence. :-]

I totally understand why Brendan has sent out a second string side but to be honest the travelling supporters are being taken for a ride.
Obviously today is just about money, I’m begining to sound a bit like my pal Neg. but I’m no a happy bunny.
I had intended going across up to a couple of hours or so but family issues arose and I had to scrap my plans.
Logged in to have a catch up but noticed that Neganon 2 was on so I am logging out.
Robinbhoy
I watched them once last season. Didn’t pan out too well for us over the 120 mins plus penalties. But it seems that display by us prompted a miracle in the boardroom and a few Moths were released from the darkest reaches of the furthest corners of the room. Peter is still distressed!
MWD
Corkcelt,
I have been saying on here for years, literally, that Celtic have two options,if we wish to have no part in the institutional cheating in Scotland.
Either we get acceptance into another league or, just shut the shop.
Derry City or Belfast Celtic.
Unfortunately, neither option is feasible.
In all the years that I have been spouting this view, I have not read one credible rebuttal.
Plenty huffing and puffing, cursing and swearing, but no definitive course of action.
SCULLYBHOY on 13TH AUGUST 2016 6:21 PM
Ditto
Corkcelt
Were you under the impression tourney was anything other than something to do with money?
I’m sure though Brendan, under more favourable circumstances would have put out a stronger team but resting his strongest side is the correct option on this occasion IMO.
MWD
Corkcelt I was not blaming the board for the individual decisions. Rather for allowing the environment where cheating can thrive to continue.
All the wailing and gnashing of teeth is clearly pointless as the game is rigged and we all know it. Yet pretend it isn’t.
It’s wrestling. Purely for entertainment and to appease Huns.
That’s what Scottish football is.
Evening Timland from a hot and thankfully hun free mountain valley.
I knew the huns were playing today, didn’t care what they did as they really are not going to challenge us, but I see they got away with one, haven’t see it yet but going by the posts it was on par with the usual in their favour.
Mr Stein said we should put the ball in the net more than the oppo, all well and good but he should have called them out for the need to do this, as should our present day board, but NA2 is right in a way, we have bought season books by the barrowload and have condoned the cheating, so we really have no right to whine and moan about it, unless you didn’t buy into it, I didn’t so I can complain.
I agree with Thom 100%, either accept it, as we are doing and say feck all, or walk away, it’s that simple.
