Day of reckoning draws close for Rangers

858

Companies have a statutory duty to produce financial reports in line with commitments made to shareholders.  The failure of Rangers to fulfil those commitments was put down to a lack of clarity over the future outcome of the on-going tribunal with HM Revenue and Customs.  As a consequence of this failure, trading in Rangers shares have been suspended by the Plus Stock Exchange.

The Plus Stock Exchange also told Rangers broadcast partner, STV, they were “currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances under which Craig Whyte’s seven year disqualification from acting as a director in 2000 were not disclosed at the time of his appointment to the board of Rangers FC on May 6, 2011”.

Rangers today suggested there was “little, if any, tangible benefit for the club to be a listed company”.  This may be true but the benefit of a listing is heavily weighted towards shareholders and creditors, who should have received structured financial information in a timely manner.  Shareholders have also been denied the opportunity to attend an Annual General Meeting, which, in line with stock exchange rules, should have been held before 31 December 2011.

Many of you have watched Rangers speculate wildly for over two decades with the feeling that they would crash and burn.  This has been a painful period for those who follow clubs who stick to budget, unprepared to take a seat at the roulette table.  The day of reckoning draws closer.

  6. I used to own a Black Lab called Sparky in my youth in Belfast. He was the bravest dog In the world!! During the height of the ‘troubles’ anytime he heard a gun battle or explosion he would dive under the dining table and make a few muffled growls and low whimpers until one of us asked him what was wrong? He’d then perk up and start barking his head off and growl menacinglystill safely hidden under the dining table that is until there was another burst of gunfire then back to tail between his legs. He also hated the Brits – every time he saw a patrol pass the house he literally used to throw himself at the window in an effort to get at them. Good boy my ol man use to tell him, he also hated our coal man and other dogs on TV. You are all right i still miss him 30 years on. He was my mate.

Fans sought over sectarian songs on trainBritish Transport Police (BTP) are looking to trace about 25 football fans who sang sectarian songs on a train between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The incident is believed to have involved Rangers supporters returning from their team’s home game at Ibrox against Motherwell on 2 January.

BTP said the incidents took place on the 22:30 Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley service.

The fans involved got off the train at Falkirk High station at about 23:00.

BTP have asked anyone with information about the incidents to contact them.

Any reason as to why a Board, who have consistently acted with good governance, (to the point of costing Celtic) would then abandon that principle when at last others have to adopt it?

    It does not make sense.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, it is indeed getting beyond a joke now. I just hope Celtic are asking questions because we have a few very exciting flair players in the team and ready to come into the team. Young Dylan looked the part when he came on yesterday but is a slightly built lad and will definitely need protection from the SPL hatchet men.

One of the reasons why UEFA insist on all clubs participating in European competition being granted a licence by their home association, is to avoid a situation where a club goes into liquidation while still in a European competition. Can you imagine the furore if a club went down aftersay, their second game in the CL or EL group stage?

Basically, UEFA need to be sure that all European participants are in such a financial state that they are able to guarantee that they can see the competition through.

If the SFA were to grant Rangers a Euro licence, knowing they were in deep financial doggy poo, and Rangers went into European competition, and then went under while still in said competition, the SFA would be in their own deep doggy poo. UEFA would then hold an inquiry into how Rangers were granted a licence and if found to have been aware of the dangers, the SFA would be heavily fined and all Scottish clubs banned from Europe for a number of years.

The SFA cannot possibly grant Rangers a Euro licence and then sit back and hope and pray that they can see it through. They would be putting their own jobs on the line, as well as risking going down in history as the men who brought Scottish Football to its knees.

Johnny Hayes?……Would be a useful signing,as we need two superb players competing for each position…

  17. Lets not all hold our breath for justice here, this is a legal process, not a moral process, it has rules, structure and defined outcomes / penalties past indiscretions are not admissable

  18. Petec…. agree regarding protection for our players.

Unfortunately it will have to come from the players themselves looking out for each other as Stokes did on Sunday grabbing thon fishy hun who assaulted young Dylan. If anybody ever chopped any of MON’s team, he would have the other 10 Celts straight on his case!

I would like to think that the club are speaking to the head bummer of the refs about the lack of protection for our players.

PS….to all lurking journos ( we know you’re there)….shame on the lot of you. Shame.

Our German Shepard/Collie cross will be 17…..yes 17 this year, name……Charlie! Almost lost him to various illnesses over the last 5 years but he keeps pulling through, although he is suffering with arthritis now, but still has a spark in his now milky windows to his soul. Love every day we still have him.

Better still is our oldest cat who will be 21 this year, by the name of Caesar! A bit frail now like our Captain, always the first voice I hear in the morning, theres no peace ’till he’s fed.

Cliftonville game on SS1,being played on a 3/4G pitch,a million times better that Fir Park,Inverness,Pittodrie etc.I think the pitch paid for itself in about 12 months, due to renting it out.Surely the way ahead for a lot of SPL clubs.

Wow, you do the honest thing and concentrate on work for a few hours and all hell breaks loose…

I see the latest ‘clue’ that things might be getting terminal at Mordor has prompted a renewed counting up of the potential votes on the Newco question.

Trouble is most of these fevered guesstimates seem to be influenced by the perspective of the supporter; the Hibees hate the huns, the Sheep hate the huns, etc.

Now the principle difficulty with such theories is the sad fact that the extent to which the fans of fellow SPhelL clubs do indeed ‘hate the huns’ is, ultimately, neither here nor there.

The question that must be asked is do the Boards of SPhelL clubs ‘hate the huns’ (from a fiscally, rather than an ideological perspective)?

The real sad, sad truth is that, in posing the question in this way, the chances are that even Celtic FC do not ‘hate the huns’.

Of course said sad state of affairs will be obfuscated by a veritable barrage of ‘self-interest’ argument from the LL in the ‘ficial meedja.

It will be backed by the green huns amongst us and may serve to cause some to waver.

Celtic fans, true Celtic fans must start the campaign now.

We welcome any Newco Huns back into the league; at the bottom or not at all…

  25. My wee Westie took off after a fox July 2008. I live in a city area with plenty of garden space, hence foxes, badgers etc. Spent 3 hrs looking for him, then out in the car for another 2 hrs. Neighbour down the street woke me at 8 in the morning–killed, knocked down outside my house. nearly broke my heart, and my misssus was worse. Anyway we lasted about three weeks and then coming out of the Marks on Lisburmn Rd, we both looked to where he was usually tied up and waiting for eithe ra treat or the park. Decided then to get another terrier. Actually went on line and found a Lakeland cross down below Durham. Went down to the place, paid over the odds and took him up to Scotlad for his holidays with me and the missus. Best thing I’ve done. Great dog with kids–loves them, great watch dog. and daft as a brush. We love him. Best thing to do when you lose your dog–mourn, then get a rescue dog or look online. meanwhile I’m laughing my Henry Halls off at the orcs–manager turning into a bald Easter egg, and the gobshite that is Whitey laughing at the stupid “fans”.

  26. Sorry if already done, but can everyone refer to The Celtic Trust site as they are trying to track down a female witness to the despicable arrest of a disabled Celtic Supporter and his son after the game against Aberdeen.

Oh! and the guys other son 13 years of age was left crying in the street to fend for himself after being screamed at by a female officer and threatened with arrest.

  28. Tim Malone Will Tell on

    Auldhied,

I posted a few days ago wondering whether Celtic shareholders could have a role to play in ensuring a fair outcome – always remembering that DD is only a major shareholder and not an owner.

Although supporters clubs have a very practical weapon – potential bycott – they dont have any legal position and will always be viewed as just a bunch of biased tims.

If smaller shareholders can argue that our investment in Celtic (and indeed the samoe could be true for other clubs) has been damaged by financial chicanery, would this possibly open up a more legal avenue to pursue either through Civil Courts, EUFA or Court of Arbitration for Sport? If nothing else, become a bloody nuisance factor that throws another spanner in the works?
