Day of reckoning draws close for Rangers

858

Companies have a statutory duty to produce financial reports in line with commitments made to shareholders.  The failure of Rangers to fulfil those commitments was put down to a lack of clarity over the future outcome of the on-going tribunal with HM Revenue and Customs.  As a consequence of this failure, trading in Rangers shares have been suspended by the Plus Stock Exchange.

The Plus Stock Exchange also told Rangers broadcast partner, STV, they were “currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances under which Craig Whyte’s seven year disqualification from acting as a director in 2000 were not disclosed at the time of his appointment to the board of Rangers FC on May 6, 2011”.

Rangers today suggested there was “little, if any, tangible benefit for the club to be a listed company”.  This may be true but the benefit of a listing is heavily weighted towards shareholders and creditors, who should have received structured financial information in a timely manner.  Shareholders have also been denied the opportunity to attend an Annual General Meeting, which, in line with stock exchange rules, should have been held before 31 December 2011.

Many of you have watched Rangers speculate wildly for over two decades with the feeling that they would crash and burn.  This has been a painful period for those who follow clubs who stick to budget, unprepared to take a seat at the roulette table.  The day of reckoning draws closer.

  2. A truly astounding call from Ross in Bridge of Weir. He is so in denial as to be almost scary. craig why te has them debt free. Honestly had to be heard to believe it. Last call of the evening on Clyde.

    Comedy gold.

  3. James Forrest is Lennon on

Ludicrous call on Clyde right now by a deaf, dumb, blind and stupid hun talking up Craig Whyte. “He’s not the only football club owner with dirty hands …”

What? Maniacal. Is that what they’ve come to? Pinochet didn’t kill as many people as Hitler, but would you have let him babysit your babies?

He’s also talking about another “great white hope” coming in to save them, even if the worst comes to the worst.

His club was available for a quid. One quid. We could have cobbled together money on CQN and bought it between us, then run the whole club in the same manner, paying no bills, buying dross for low fees …

No-one came to their aid when the press was telling the world the tax case was no big thing. Now it is one of a number of big things facing them, and when it crystalises will leave the club in debt totalling perhaps as much as £100 million, with a complete infrastructure to rebuild.

If the whole lot for a quid wasn’t tempting … why do they think the debt ridden wreck, holed below the waterline, needing anything up to £50 million just to maintain a place in the league, will bring out the hidden millionaries?

was looking at buying the Sevenpenny Gate by John Cairney on Amazon. Some twisted and sick individual has tagged the book “”paedophile”.

Not sure if Amazon are aware of this but very poor if they are. Should the police be investigating an individual who has tagged a fooball book as I have described ? Surely the person who does this needs investigation ?

Anyone know how best to complain about this and to what authorities or is this sort of sick behaviour acceptable today ?

A club applying to enter the SPL other than via the normal method of promotion, is a reserved matter. Reserved matters have to be voted on by all SPL clubs and not only by the smaller SPL board.

This means that if Rangers cease to exist, as opposed to merely entering administration, then there will have to be a vote of all remaining 11 SPL clubs.

There is a requirement for a 83% majority which means 10 out of 11 have to vote for Rangers Newco to gain entry.

There are further complications surrounding the timing of any vote.

Lets assume the process is administration…..then a 10 point penalty is applied. Should the administration happen in the close season then Rangers will start 2012-13 on minus 10 points.

This however is totally dependent on Rangers still being in administration. Should the position move from administration to liquidation . Then Rangers cease to exist and have no entitlement to play anywhere. A Rangers Newco will first of all have to apply to become an SFA member club. That should be straightforward. The next stage is to try and join either the SFL or the SPL

In the event of attempting to join the SFL , it will be in Div 3 and all SFL clubs have a vote. I would imagine that this would be a formality

In the event of attempting to join the SPl, there is no provision for that. All SPL clubs will have a vote as it would be a reserved matter. Where it gets messy is, as I said earlier, the timing of a vote. Should this vote take place in June then possibly Ross County will be an SPL member club and Dunfermline may not be.

Therefore Ross County will have a vote and Dunfermline will not. This may advantage Rangers as their will be no clubs who will be able to retain their SPL status by voting against Rangers.

Regardless of the voting intentions of SPL clubs, the bigger issue relates to the morality of allowing Rangers to join the SPL.

My position is that Rangers Newco should be forced to start life in Div 3. I believe that is Celtic’s position as well. However Celtic cannot achieve that by themselves. I think it is possible, maybe the most likely outcome, that the other SPL clubs will vote for Rangers Newco to join the SPL directly.

In these circumstances Celtic will have to decide how to act. Will they go to UEFA and the SFA, will they lobby for multi year substantial points penalties, will they refuse to sell tickets for away games. Will they actively attempt to join another league in another country

Make no mistake, that regardless of how strongly I have criticised the board and the CEO over some operational issues in the last 3 years, I have no doubt that on this issue they will stand up for fair play

I understand the integrity issues for all supporters but having read Paul67 article he seems pretty adamant and has also clarified this by stating someone at Celtic has confirmed this to him that it is an SPL board matter.

My thought re. Employing a solicitor to provide an opinion is that this could then be put to other fan bases in order that together all supporters could go to the SPL and play the integrity card in order that they change the rules to remove the remit from the SPL board and pass it back to its rightful place with a GM passing a Qualified Resolution. If supporters were providing evidence that the SPL rules are flawed and they did not act prior to OldHunCo going bust, to tighten the rules it would discredit the organisation more than they already are.

Don’t know if any other Bhoys would be willing to contribute to employing a decent solicitor?

The downside of working within an exchange is that a company has to stick to rules on transparency, without which buyers of shares can’t have confidence in what they’re buying.

That’s why it is important audited accounts are published. That’s also why the Plus exchange forced Craig Whyte to admit in November he had been disqualified as a director for seven years.

    Transparency can mean unwelcome publicity

Appeal for a witness to an incident in Kinloch Street after the Aberdeen game 23 October 2011

    Witness appeal

On 23 October 2011 after the game against Aberdeen there was an incident in Kinloch Street when a disabled Celtic supporter and his son were arrested by mounted police officers for allegedly shouting abuse at the Aberdeen fans while leaving the stadium. During his arrest the man was being held by the neck by a male officer mounted on a horse. When he was released to be grabbed by other officers on foot, the officer knocked the man’s glasses off. The man’s teenage son attempted to help his father and was also arrested. His younger son (13) was crying and in distress and during that time a female officer screamed in his face and threatened him with arrest. The child was subsequently abandoned outside the park and a steward had to wait with him till his mother could be contacted to come and collect him.

During the incident a female Celtic supporter asked the mounted officer, who was holding the man, for his number as she appeared to be objecting to the way the man was being treated. He apparently did not reply to her and left the scene shortly thereafter. This lady, who was in the 40-60 age group could be a helpful witness as the man and his son have now been charged with breach of the peace.

If you are this lady or you know her (you may have heard her speak about the incident) can you please contact the Celtic Trust via our website or contact Fans Against Criminalisation at fansagainstcriminalisation@gmail.com .

Could all fan websites or blogs please pass on this appeal.
