Day of reckoning draws close for Rangers

858

Companies have a statutory duty to produce financial reports in line with commitments made to shareholders.  The failure of Rangers to fulfil those commitments was put down to a lack of clarity over the future outcome of the on-going tribunal with HM Revenue and Customs.  As a consequence of this failure, trading in Rangers shares have been suspended by the Plus Stock Exchange.

The Plus Stock Exchange also told Rangers broadcast partner, STV, they were “currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances under which Craig Whyte’s seven year disqualification from acting as a director in 2000 were not disclosed at the time of his appointment to the board of Rangers FC on May 6, 2011”.

Rangers today suggested there was “little, if any, tangible benefit for the club to be a listed company”.  This may be true but the benefit of a listing is heavily weighted towards shareholders and creditors, who should have received structured financial information in a timely manner.  Shareholders have also been denied the opportunity to attend an Annual General Meeting, which, in line with stock exchange rules, should have been held before 31 December 2011.

Many of you have watched Rangers speculate wildly for over two decades with the feeling that they would crash and burn.  This has been a painful period for those who follow clubs who stick to budget, unprepared to take a seat at the roulette table.  The day of reckoning draws closer.

  1. Stokes and Hooper have played the equivalent of 35 full games between them this season – almost a full season’s worth for one player – and have scored 20 goals.

Regarding high scorers winning league titles, perhaps ST should avail himself of the stats posted by playfusbal4dguilders at 10:07, taking especial note of the top scorers in the seasons: 98/99, 99/00, 02/03, 04/05, 05/06, 06/07.

Then ST might want to consider who won the league in those seasons.

hint: it wasn’t the team with the highest goalscorer in any of those seasons.

  2. Actually Diawarra is 6Ft 1 as well as the Albanian boy so if we cannot pay 5M plus for Diawarra a guy with a scoring record like that other fella has for 500,000 is worth buying.

We’ve been stung with Bangura, Murphy and Rasmussen. We need to have another option up there.

    Samaras gets few goals.

Hooper and Stokes get a fair few but we need another option in case of injury.

The Rapid boy for 500,000 even at 28 is a no brainer for me.

    The figures are mind-boggling.

The issue for the UK is that the technology can provide 21st century kit but because our infrastructure survived the war largely intact no matter how good the trains are they will still need to navigate Victorian ‘roads’…..

It was not me that said

“any money received would be reinvested in

The squad”. Think that was an untruth :)

As club accounts stated we paid 5m off our debt

Now spun that way anyway you want

Looks to me as a pesky fan asking questions that we can plead poverty and deny Neil

Funds as he tried to stop 3 in a row , but then pay towards our small debt( small compared to 99% of other clubs)

We failed to stop 3 Ina row

Sorry if its boring to criticise a CEO who has watched a bankrupt and virtual zero spending Huns team win again and again

Sit back and relax, I used to love taking the train because it usually allowed me to do what I wanted in terms of working or relaxing.

Re line upgrades, I think the issue is that we are now out of step in terms of developing the technology. We’ve got the Trains but not the infrastructure.

If you’ve ever taken the TGV, you can see how modern trains and infrastructure combine to provide a good, efficient service.

  6. This must be the most relaxed (Sydney Tim excluded) January window that there has been in the last five seasons, and the bi annual introduction of yet another striker, is just a Celtic war cry.

As others have posted unless he’s bigger and better there’s no room, I expect business if there is any, will take place around 31st January, the rest is paper talk.

Not convinced we need an “Albanian Ace” when we have a “Sierre Leone Star” and a “Greek God”

  7. The Battered Bunnet on

Likelihood of insolvency looms for Rangers in the coming 3 or 4 months.

The team is missing the influence of Naismith, who is out long term, and have lost form since his injury.

The finances are precarious following a disaster in Euro qualifiers in August.

The club exhausted its cash by end October, and has taken on expensive short term secured debt from close Brothers.

Every penny is now a prisoner, with the cash requirement being £3M per month.

What’s the smart play in the transfer window?

Number 1: Generate Cash – It’s better to sell players for cash than borrow more at 3% per month from Close.

Number 2: Cut Costs – Reducing costs reduces cash burn. No brainer. Wages go down.

Number 3: Buy No One – Cash out is a no-no, while Player Registrations revert to the SFA in the event of a liquidation. Asset values diminish. Madness.

Number 4: Free Transfers are OK provided the wage and signing fee is modest. Loans are a good option. Get more Kyle Bartleys and David Healys.

But the team will be weakened and the fans won’t like this.

Too bad eh. Wait ’til April.

  8. SydneyTim,

Your demands that Celtic spend big money on a striker would get a much more sympathetic reception from me if you, and supporters like you (not struggling financially and can afford to pay your dues), would only put your own hand – in your own pocket – and part with some of – your own money – in the direction of – your own club – to help pay back the debts that – your own ambitions – will have spawned.

Not to do so, and perennially bleat on about it, expecting somebody else to pay the bilss for your pleasures, would be to display hun like traits; don’t you agree?

I thought the new high speed trains were 400 metres long and more sardines could be packed into them than ever before.

Also been suggested that they would save on 6,000,000 flights and 9,000,000 car journeys.

    Canny see that masel!

  10. This doesn’t fell like a transfer window – where’s the angst, the demands for big spending, the in depth analysis of the areas where we need to strengthen? And only one Robbie Keane rumour so far, very disappointing.

Still, it must mean we have a decent young squad that can only get better. I’d still like another striker though

  11. Ahh. Scottish trains. I can remember mrs Sydney tim being amazed at trains in Scotland

They have heating and aircon and look

    So modern

Sydney trains aircon. Open the windae

Sydney trains heating. Close the windae

Talking about upgrading to 1990 next

I remember telling estadio before he went by train to brisbane that it would be the old 125’s that used to run east coast line aberdeen to kings cross

He though I was taking the p@@s

Nope I was remind the truth , they were sold to oz after electrifying east coast line in uk

Country rail here advertise them as the most modern lol

SydenyTim, you have repeatedly quoted the debt as 500k as part justification of your mantra of negativity. If by providing more accurate information I succeed in you no longer propagating information that might mislead others then I will count that a success!

I’ll have an hour or so after the game before my train so hopefully might meet up with some on here.

How much did Kenny Miller cost the huns?

    Less than Bangura.

    You are making no sense.

Let’s not buy one for the sake if it

  17. I’ve just seen Michal Kadlek at Annandale Services. He stopped off for a Yorkie Bar and a can of Diet Pepsi, then he sped off in a northerly direction.

So far no sign of R—– K—-, but it’s early days.

  18. Drogehda. Not me that made the statement but John Reid in June 2010

We reduced our debt from over 5m to approx 500k

He said it not me. :))

We were able to do that because of McGeady money

Great business if we were going for 3 in a row

    But we were not

I put titles in front of zero debt

A striker who doesn’t score goals is not a striker but a player.

No more players please we have plenty.

  20. SydneyTim:

So you’ve added to the Celtic top you bought two seasons ago; Net to Celtic your shopping spree will have amounted to about 25, maybe 30 quid. Get real, have you seen the picture quality on Celtic TV lately, I hear the premium picture is TV quality too. I pay monthly just so Celtic get an extra couple of quid out of me just in case Peter is caught short of the price of a pint. Season tickets and merchandise bought aside, to use your quantification, I’d by well in my rights to demand Celtic buy Messi. But then I live in the real world and I pay my dues, I don’t ask other Celtic Supporters to pick up my tabs.

  21. Somebody want to explain – very slowly – to Syd what corrupt MIB and honest mistakes are all about.

  22. Targets

Baba Diawara – 46 goals in 124 apps for Maritimo (13 in 18 this season) Career 46 in 124 (37.1%)

    Hamdi Salihi – 57 goals in 94 appearences for Rapid Vienna (11 in 14 this season) Career – 184 in 330 (55.8%)

    Jordan Rhodes – 73 goals in 116 apps for Huddersfield (27 in 23 this season) career – 80 in 149 (53.7%)

    Current Strikers

    Gary Hooper – 37 in 64 for Celtic (15 in 28 this season) Career – 128 in 316 (40.5%)

    Anthony Stokes – 34 in 63 for Celtic (15 in 28 this season) Career – 80 in 192 (41.7%)

    Best ever

    Henrik Larsson – 242 in 313 for Celtic; Career 434 in 772 (56.2%)

Looking at those stats, Hamdi Salihi looks a good bet especially at £500k. His strike rate at Rapid Vienna is way over and above what Jelavic managed there (his was 25 goals in 70 apps).
