Day of reckoning draws close for Rangers

858

Companies have a statutory duty to produce financial reports in line with commitments made to shareholders.  The failure of Rangers to fulfil those commitments was put down to a lack of clarity over the future outcome of the on-going tribunal with HM Revenue and Customs.  As a consequence of this failure, trading in Rangers shares have been suspended by the Plus Stock Exchange.

The Plus Stock Exchange also told Rangers broadcast partner, STV, they were “currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances under which Craig Whyte’s seven year disqualification from acting as a director in 2000 were not disclosed at the time of his appointment to the board of Rangers FC on May 6, 2011”.

Rangers today suggested there was “little, if any, tangible benefit for the club to be a listed company”.  This may be true but the benefit of a listing is heavily weighted towards shareholders and creditors, who should have received structured financial information in a timely manner.  Shareholders have also been denied the opportunity to attend an Annual General Meeting, which, in line with stock exchange rules, should have been held before 31 December 2011.

Many of you have watched Rangers speculate wildly for over two decades with the feeling that they would crash and burn.  This has been a painful period for those who follow clubs who stick to budget, unprepared to take a seat at the roulette table.  The day of reckoning draws closer.

  1. As much as i am a huge fan of Frankie,,,,im disapointed in his comments regarding schooling in Scotland!!!

FUNNYMAN Frankie Boyle has blasted Scotland’s anti-sectarian laws — branding them a “colonial” attack on the working class.

The outspoken comic called on ministers to tackle religious segregation in schools.

And he slammed the SNP Government for targeting the “valid culture” of Old Firm fans.

The Scottish Sun columnist said: “Of course some of the songs contravene laws on racial hatred and maybe even on inciting violence. But that’s a debate that needs to be had.

“Why aren’t we having that? Because it would be really f***** awkward. Sectarianism is a real problem, but it should be addressed by people engaging with each other — reconciliation.

“If we were really serious about this, the first step is to end religious segregation in schools.”

Speaking in a magazine interview, the Celtic supporter added: “Supporting Rangers, being in an Orange Lodge, that whole life — that’s a valid culture.

“Supporting Celtic, waving a tricolour because your parents are Irish — that’s a valid culture.

“You can’t say that the opinions those people hold, the songs they sing, the language they use, are inferior.

“It’s an attack on freedom of speech. It’s the ruling classes telling the working classes what to say and think.

“Here we have a ruling class that has internalised colonial attitudes and says, ‘ban songs, ban words’.”

The Offensive Behaviour at Football Bill followed a string of high-profile sectarian incidents last year.

A spokesman for community safety minister Roseanna Cunningham said: “The overwhelming majority of people are totally committed to eradicating sectarianism and we would encourage Mr Boyle to read the reality of the new laws.”

If you want a guy who will be guaranted to score goals for fun in the SPL, we don’t need to spend £5m on Rhodes (who could be a disaster as he is unproven in the SPL). Offer Boyd £30k a week and over 3 years and we will save over £300k on just the transfer fee for Rhodes, without even mentioning wages!

But then, I don’t want either myself!

Hooper is lacking an edge this season. Possibly finding it a strain leading the line.

Rhodes would be first-pick striker, with Stokes/Hooper competing to partner him.

    No more Linwood Striker..

Run right over this lot of hammer-throwers…

If Hooper does not perk up his ideas,he could risk being sold on in the summer.

THE sustained personal abuse directed at Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon during Saturday’s match at Cowdenbeath is likely to go unpunished.

Fife Police yesterday insisted that discussions between officers and Fenlon at the end of the Scottish Cup tie had simply been part of “usual procedure”.

The Irishman was repeatedly subjected to aggressive abuse – much of it centring on his nationality – from individuals within the home support during the Easter Road side’s 3-2 victory over the Second Division leaders. However, despite the offenders being clearly identifiable in the stand, no action was taken by police or stewards.

  13. Hopefully our scouts have spotted a target man who is good enough, affordable and from Europe (don’t want to many heading off to play internationals in America, Africa & Asia)!

  15. One Nation…

British Transport Police (BTP) are looking to trace about 25 football fans who sang sectarian songs on a train between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The incident is believed to have involved Rangers supporters returning from their team’s home game at Ibrox against Motherwell on 2 January.

BTP said the incidents took place on the 22:30 Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley service.

The fans involved got off the train at Falkirk High station at about 23:00.

BTP have asked anyone with information about the incidents to contact them.

  19. We have a fantastic combination in Stokes and Hooper. The issue is that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

So far this season We have lost 3 games:

    Lost

    St Johnstone (h) No Hooper

    Huns (a) No Stokes

Hearts (a) Stokes didn’t start, came on 2-0 down with 10 men.

    We’ve Drawn 2

    Killie (a) Stokes scored 2

Hibs (a) 0-0 neither scored. This is the one anomaly.

For the record there’s a pretty strong pattern in the wins where Stokes and Hooper played together:

    Won:

    Hibs (a) Stokes scored

    Aberdeen (a) Stokes scored

DUFC (h) Hooper and Stokes both scored

    St Mirren (a) Hooper scored

Motherwell (h) Won 4-0, neither scored

ICT (h) Won 2-0, neither scored

Aberdeen (h) won 2-1, neither scored

Motherwell (a), Won 2-1. Stokes scored, Hooper came off bench for the winner

    ICT (a) Stokes scored

    Pars (h) Hooper scored

    St Mirren (h) Hooper scored

    DUFC (a) Hooper scored

Hearts (h) won 1-0, neither scored

Stokes then missed a couple of games

    St J (A) Won 2-0. Hooper scored.

    Killie (h) Won 2-1, Hooper didn’t score

    Huns (h) Won 1-0. Hooper didn’t score.

    Than he came back

    Pars (A) Stokes scored

So please don’t come on here complaining about Stokes and/or Hooper. It is a two man strike force when we should be picking from four. 8 Europa League games including qualifiers, Semis of the League Cup and safely through in the Scottish Cup with two strikers. We’re not needing to trade them, we’re needing to support them, as fans, and with back up as a Club.

Long term, the train is the better option. It is a huge investment though the business benefits could be huge.

On the plus side, it would get rid of the carbuncle that is Euston.

There will be business benefits to those involved in the construction.

I’m not sure that the business benefits resulting from the 30 minute saving in the journey time justify the level of expenditure.

SydenyTim you have quoted on more than one occasion that the club debt is 500k. This is incorrect. The 500k refers to the nebulous “bank debt” a virtually meaningless figure with regard to assessing the clubs financial health! To illustrate, a company can delay payment to suppliers in the period immediately prior to the yearend thereby accumulating cash and reducing the mythic bank debt. Total indebtedness has not been reduced at all!

I have not analysed the most recent accounts but have seen estimates of Celtic’s actual debt as being as high as £20 million. Whatever it is it is much higher than 500k.

I am sure you will not let this information deflect you from your unrelenting negativity towards the clubs executives!
