Days where titles are won

213

A couple of hours after Celtic lost in Germany on Wednesday, St Johnstone fell to the same fate at Kilmarnock, who started the game bottom of the table without a win.

That was Saints first defeat since August, so any notion that tomorrow’s Premiership game in Perth will be anything other than taxing for Celtic is likely to be wide of the mark.

It is an away game after an away game in Europe, the scenario when points are most often dropped.  Add to this recent form, which is well below our early season standards, and injuries to key players, and your have a cocktail of concern.

These are the days where titles are won, the days we acquired such a deep squad to cope with.  A win please, Celtic.

More on Callum McGregor after tomorrow, eye on the prize.

Ronnie was never the same player after Kenny Dalglish left imo.

Losing Pat Stanton and Kenny Dalglish in 77 had a huge impact not just for the loss of both of them as players but also the effects on the form of Roddie McDonald, Ronnie Glavin and Joe Craig.

  2. Away from sport topics,People worry about paying utilities bills food price’s etc going through the roof ,One thing I have noticed over the years you never hear employees on BBC funded by you and me crying wolf ,why because they are on good money ,while Joe Blogs has to struggle.

  3. I will reiterate on Joe Hart. That shocker was only one in quite a long line of balls ups he has made.People being far too lenient with him, because he has made a few good saves.Well that’s expected,he IS a goalkeeper. He will continue to make them. His pathetic attempt to try and stop the Shaktar goal, dear God,if that had been the big Greek, bedlam on here, but its Joe,no problem.

He should be on the bench and Siegrist in.And I take no joy in saying that.I just don’t trust him now and I know I am not alone in this.

Players like our captain are sorely missed when not playing.

Season defining? Not a bit of it.

    Glass always half full….

    Re Calmac

    Spot on.

Hopefully if it is bad we can take each game as it comes for the next few weeks and maybe we benefit from the World Cup layoff.

Next weeks game and Shakhtar can take care of themselves in terms of motivation. Young Greg can step up in a leadership vein imo. Joe Hart will be captain I am sure.

Knowing Calmac he will be in the dugout and still influencing every kick.

I reckon Juranovic could play the DM role effectively, although I think it will probably be Mooy. Hopefully Callum not out for too long in any case.

Hopefully Abada is back in contention?

Three points please and need to get an improvement in the performance too.

  7. Siegrist , should be first name in team sheet.

Hart has been at fault for too many goals over the last few games

  8. We will recover from the loss of Calmac. So many wanting a big powerful Def Mid,have now got one.Bit of tweaking by Ange,we could be better, who knows. Not because of Cals abscence, playing style.

4 goalies capped for their countries but not for Scotland whilst playing for either Celtic or rangers in same season:

    Pat Bonnar -Ireland●Celtic●

    Allen McKnight●Celtic●

    Chris Woods● rangers●

    Missing goalie is from rangers..

Not big Peter then. Thought it might have been club sides.

My knowledge of the hun can be described fairly as less than encyclopaedic, but I might guess Niemi for Finland or Santa Kloss for some incarnation of Germany.

I’m surprised we haven’t lost Callum to a longish term injury before now , given the amount of games he has played .

He seemed to sustain the injury in tackling the RBL player and probably made it worse in chasing him back .

IMO he is the best player we have at retaining the ball under pressure and recycling the ball with his speed of thought and quick feet .

We don’t have a Callum-style replacement , so his absence will probably only underline his importance to the team . Maybe even give some of his critics food for thought .

  12. Maybe Calmac being out means we go for a double pivot. Probably doesn’t make sense if St J park the bus and means sacrificing a midfielder from further up the pitch.

I’d keep the disruption to the team to a minimum, starting at the right tempo is essential, I don’t think a new formation or new faces will help with that.

    Joe,

No real idea but give it a go if it doesn’t spoil it for anyone else.

    Charbonier?

  14. Siegrist is not as good a shotstopper as Joe Hart.

Both are crap with the ball at their feet.

We’re not getting anywhere replacing 1 with the other.

Our recruitment on goalkeepers during the summer was bizarre and opportunistic, with our budget in mind.

Hopefully a priority in January – young, modern-style keeper able to play the way Ange wants the team to play (+ stop shots obviously).

Old fashioned I know, but I like a keeper who is good with his hands.

Our back guys are good at passing through a press, but sometimes the keeper should just hit it long if the pas option carries an element of risk.

When we played at school there was always a reason why the same guys got stuck in goal. Don’t want to be unkind but it tended to have more to do with their lack of ability with their feet than anything to do with a natural instinct as a keeper.

If BT is looking in, no slight intended to your old man! :)

I read it that all 4 had to be in the same season; McKnight was gone before Ginsburg

I still didn’t know the answer though!!!!!

Perhaps an indication of youthful egg-chasing’s effect on cognitive abilities…

  19. It’s a critical part of the season, a win and no more injuries will do for me tomorrow.

I love this type of period, non stop games and plenty to look forward to. We’ve a much bigger squad this season so I don’t see last winter’s injury crisis re-appearing.

Get the points early tomorrow and rest legs for Liepzig.

What is the connection between Celtic and Red Star of Paris?
