Days where titles are won

213

A couple of hours after Celtic lost in Germany on Wednesday, St Johnstone fell to the same fate at Kilmarnock, who started the game bottom of the table without a win.

That was Saints first defeat since August, so any notion that tomorrow’s Premiership game in Perth will be anything other than taxing for Celtic is likely to be wide of the mark.

It is an away game after an away game in Europe, the scenario when points are most often dropped.  Add to this recent form, which is well below our early season standards, and injuries to key players, and your have a cocktail of concern.

These are the days where titles are won, the days we acquired such a deep squad to cope with.  A win please, Celtic.

More on Callum McGregor after tomorrow, eye on the prize.

  1. Hopefully our good fortune at St Johnstone continues tomorrow.

I am looking forward to seeing how Ange sets us out to ensure we keep the pressure on our rivals domestically.

A win for us and a bit of pressure on thems hosting the ‘inform’ Paisley Saints who they don’t seem to like much these days.

  2. Terrible news today from Creeslough ,hope it’s not as bad as it appears .

School children may be involved .So sad

  3. CCV, Starfelt, Turnbull and it just had to happen sometime, our little dynamo, the man with the Rolls engine, Calmac is finaly laid low with a long term injury so we’ve been told. The first named trio will be back hopefully short term. We have built a very big squad of talented players this term and they owe it to Calm to step up to the plate in the coming months.

The Hoops made a lot of chances against the Germans in the first half on Tuesday night but not for the first time failed to take them. Both ourselves and the Gers have beaten this outfit on our own turf and there’s no reason why we can’t turn them over on Tuesday night.

Regarding Joe’s costly mistake, we also ran into the same problem on our last visit to German soil with this tip tapping around at the back instead of clearing our lines when the situation demands.

Looking forward to the match against the Saints and anxious to see what our lineup will be and a return to winning ways.

  4. If Wanyama is out of contract and has left the Canadian Club ,we’ll go and see if he would come back and play for us ,Turnbull isn’t doing it ,McCarthy to injury prone ,can I ask what’s happening to Dane Murray.

  5. I’ve also watched Man City getting into ttrouble tippy tapping around at the back on occasions but they have the lethal power to reply if things go wrong.

Walsh is worse than the lot of them. He celebrates his anti catholic ness.

  7. Can any of the experts and historians on here tell me if they can remember any / many St Mirren wins at Ibrox.

I am struggling to recall one. I think 2 or 3 draws only in 40 years or so that I can remember.

Not many times they have been 3rd going up against a distracted 2nd in the league mind you.

Although it seems they are on damage limitation in CL now so maybe less distracted than us.

  8. Listening to Ange I reckon we will see :

    Ralston

    Bernebei

    Haksabanovic

    Abilgard

    Abada

    GG

    All playing tomorrow.

    Gucci or McCarthy anyone ???

  9. Burnley 78

Usually I’d think our manager would look at the st mirren performance and not make more than 3 changes but with Ange we could have 7 or 8

  10. my team for tomorrow ,unfortunately some are not with us anymore, but it would be simpson craig and gemmel murdoch mcneil and clark johnstone wallace chalmers auld and lennox, subs, joe mcbride john yogi hughes charlie gallagher and mr dependable jim kennedy

Spidey 101… A comprehensive, clinical analysis. Depressingly accurate IMO. Good to see you have not been rubbished or trolled by the more intolerant members of our group. Problems detected are problems to be addressed. Ange may need to take some advice. Is he able to listen to views which might seem to clash with his great philosophy of the game, and can he modify his approach to meet the differing challenges represented by our Club’s various commitments? And who offers the necessary advice? I, for one, am still a believer, but….

  14. Summary

Inter had the first attack of the match, with Renato Cappellini running down the wing and supplying a cross to Sandro Mazzola whose header hit out of position Celtic goalkeeper Ronnie Simpson’s knees.

Inter won a penalty minutes later when Jim Craig clumsly fouled Cappellini in the box, not his first blunder this season, as he is too often up the park in an inside position forgetting the role of the modern fullback and Mazzola converted to put Inter in front after only six minutes.

Once they had taken the lead, Inter retreated back into their defensive style, which allowed Celtic to attack. attack and attack. However, they struggled to get through Inter’s defensive wall and were mainly restricted to long shots from outside the box. Bertie Auld hit the crossbar, then a cross from Jimmy Johnstone was gathered up by Giuliano Sarti, who then tipped a header from the same player over the crossbar.

Celtic then lost the 2nd goal when Ronnie Simpson, some 20 yards from his goalline , while trying to pass the ball out, after a short pass from the man craig, tried a fancy back heel which the Italian forward stole and rolled easily into the net.

Inter pulled nine men back, but Celtic kept attacking them. Tommy Gemmell’s dangerous free-kick was saved by Sarti, he then speculatively attempted to lob the Inter ‘keeper and hit the bar. Despite Celtic’s inability to break through their opponents defence they were in complete control of the match and Inter were not able to attack. Inter had not had another chance since their goal, whilst Celtic found themselves foiled time and again by outstanding goalkeeping from Sarti.

After just over an hour, Gemmell up in the inside again, when Craig passed to him from the right wing and he was foiled as the Black and Blues stole on the break, easily cut through the celtic centre halfs on their own, 3-0 Internazionale.

With 6 remaining, a long-range shot from Bobby Murdoch was diverted by Stevie Chalmers past a wrong-footed Sarti – rather than an instinctive intervention, Chalmers and his teammates asserted that they had practiced the same move many times in training.[18] This proved to be the consolation goal.[19][20]

    Celtic 1 Internazionale 3.

why Stein continued with this Jockball after the defensive success at Prague to get them to the final, well only he knows

And glad to see your now over your 201 journey from a few weeks ago :-)

My tuppence worth on Leipzig … glad we didn’t lose any more goals … a 2-0 victory in front of our fans and a Real Madrid win we go 2nd … even a draw keeps 3rd place alive … the CL is a massive step up … after 1 draw and 2 losses … I have been delighted with the chances we have created in all 3 games …

One of these days we will put the lot of them away, if given the choice .. Shakhtar at home would be good

Roll on the Saints of Perth tomorrow

  17. For yonks many on here screaming out for a big, physical Def. Mid.Now we have one,and Cal injured, hardly anyone mentioning Abildgaard.Strange crew on here sometimes.

    Captain,CCV,who else?.

I will say again, for all the talk of us being, out muscled, out fought, outplayed,on Wed.,the stats don’t back this up.We were well in the game until Harts blunder.

    Roll on Tuesday.

FFS,let Wanyama at least have a medical before writing him off.If we are even considering.

  18. TB 10.00pm

Joe Hart will be doing the “huddle speech” tomorrow

Joe has made a few mistakes since he signed but done far more good than bad

A terrific signing in my opinion and great experience for our very young squad …

I will be delighted if CCV is in the starting 11 never mind the armband … gutted for Callum … let’s hope a few of his teammates now do their bit for him since he’s been doing a lot of the hard graft for last couple of seasons

Wanyama has only just gone out of contract, so he couldn’t be signed until the January window.
