Defences, views and runs

We can take some comfort in the fact that Salzburg have lost three games on the bounce but they sit in second spot in the Austrian Bundesliga, Celtic are fourth in the Scottish Premiership and have won only one of their previous five games.  The Austrians will see just as much comfort in our form.

Success on Thursday will be determined by who manages to overcome their frailties most effectively.  As far as Celtic are concerned, that will mean trying to find the kind of defensive performance that we put in last season.

Our reason for most confidence should be the speed which we can break at, and Salzburg’s only defensive issues.  They shipped three goals to Sturm Graz and Malmo in recent outings.

Many thanks to everyone who has already taken our ‘Who we are and Our Values’ survey, it took just over 1 hour to register 1,000 submissions.  It’ll take you little more than 5 minutes to share your view on some important matters, take a look here.

I’m a wee bit late to the party but I’ve signed up for the Great Scottish Run on 5 October to assist Celtic Foundation’s work in the areas of health, equality, poverty, and learning.  If you’ve already registered with the event, or you have a pair of trainers and an outrageous disregard for the aging process, get involved.

You can register for the Great Scottish Run here and with the Foundation be emailing them, details here.

This is our club, they are your trainers, that is your outrageous disregard for the aging process.  Let’s do it.

    Tonight’s 3 polls all say 52:48 NO

However the last polls undertaken by the companies involved all had NO with bigger leads. Momentum therefore with YES.

Remember Neil Kinnock and Al Gore?

Polls aren’t worth the pish they’re tinted on

    The polls are bizarre.

My experience (over the past 6 months, amongst friends and strangers, and bearing in mind I’ve been very closed about my own vote) – 90% yes. And that’s me being conservative. 1 person out of hundreds.

Bizarre. Unless you have a wee bit of savvy about the ole British establishment.

    Hah hah, the scoundrels.

    1) many formerly disenfranchised voters re-registering in order to vote YES

    2) Pollsters underestimate YES turnout on basis that methods include/comprise landlines and/or home PCs which many of the above do not have

    3) get the vote out on the day and keep the disenfranchised interested enough to make a difference. Workmate flagging up today that final YES canvas returns in from Glasgow Maryhill suggest 62:38 YES

  11. squire danaher,

Apols for butting. Haven’t read back.

    It’s a clear yes vote.

We should all be discussing just now how to get rid of the SNP before they conclude their set up of a mini Westminster and mini fascist rozzer state to maintain power.

This is the crucial year coming up for me.

Get the youngsters who now have an understanding and thirst for democracy to lead the way.

The old guard need to go as soon as the result is in.

No career politics. Get rid of them all. Start as we want to go on.

There are plenty of young intelligent folk out there who would do 1000 times the job that any of the current career politicians would.

The vote for Indpendence is unselfish. Let’s keep it that way.

  14. After the three party leaders of the no campaign rush to Scotland offering promises of extra powers , surely anyone planning to vote no must see that Scotland has something that they all don’t want to lose , why weren’t these extra powers not offered before the last two days of the campaign ? Why don’t we have these powers already ? Panic has set in and now the mps in England are not happy they haven’t been consulted regarding extra powers , this stinks of signs of desperate measures .

    Indeed,there were some absolute stoatirs!

As for Maradona,I could have watched him all day when he was in Italy.

Possibly less of a team player than most of the greats, but what a talent.

  16. Not so sure about Maradona. He was dull for 90% of a game if I remember right,

Similar to Paul Gascoigne – brought nothing to games except after 180+ minutes, the odd magical looking spell of genius. Gazza got his goal against Scotland, Maradona got his after the “hand of God” goal.

Sammy on the other hand, got two in a row, in the one game, in a team with a man down, and 4 MIBs on the pitch making up the rules :)))

    THAT is football genius.

In regard to the other issue,I take your point, but I always have some reluctance to “go there.”

It sounds a bit like ” the global Jewish conspiracy.”

I have no qualms about criticism of the state of Israel, however.

  18. PJBhoy,

Knew you’d appreciate that ref our chat the other day.

Give politics back to the yoofs

    I strongly believe that.

For confirmation, the burds behind Cat annoys the hell out of me. All smug smirks and no passion which any genuine listener or sympathiser would have.

It’s a Yes vote for sure imo, but it’s crucial we don’t hand the reigns over to the same muppets as before.

From what I’ve seen the younger generation have played a big big part in the Yes campaign.

I haven’t campaigned for Yes or No to date. But after the Yes vote, I’ll be out there putting my heart and soul behind the youngsters.

It’s crucial we start the right way – if we start with the same old same old, nothing will change. Radical Youth !!

Maradona was genius imo.i recall bein in the old enclosure at the Scotland v Argentina in 1979.he gets the ball in his on half just outside area,a brilliant burst of pace; faking right, turns inside (sending the scots midfield out to garage in aitkenhead rd for cigs etc ha)

takes ball past a defender and stops dead, bout 30 yards out.no teammate went with him.so he came back with ball past defender, headin towards centre circle and casually laid off to a team mate as our midfield lookin at each other iin a bemused state(back from garage now ha) chased shadows.a real did he just do that ?moment. Most of 2nd half chant of ar-gen-tina rang out as they played with us and got a 3-1 victory.

What did you think of CQTEN? I heard it was a belter, but I had plans for The Gold Cup that day.

    Expensive plans,as it turned out!

    Bad day in that respect!

Worst thing is that my iPhone wouldn’t work due to the number of people overwhelming the networks.

I should have turned it off, then just checked it occasionally, but not me.

Next morning, once it had charged, there was a message from TOMMYTWISTSTOMMYTURNS telling me the winner of the big one.

    20/1,you can guess I wasn’t too happy.

As for CQTEN,everyone I know who was there had a great time, then an even greater time telling me what a great time they had,the bassas.

Still,I really enjoyed Cheltenham. Craic was good, company was magic,my horses were useless. Two out of three ain’t bad….

Cant get back to sleep. Normally sleep like a log but cant stop thinking about the referendum.

The squire Danaher post above has hit the nail on the head. The latest poll of polls puts

the NO ahead at 50.6% and the YES at 49.4 % . Getting it to one decimal point is important.

Polling experts are now saying there may be polling errors in these polls for the very reasons that the above post points out. I firmly believe that these polls are not taking into account those persons who have registered to vote in the last 4 to 6 months and I would bet that the vast majority of them would be YES voters.

The referendum result might not be as close as the polls suggest!

    Quantum says YES
