Defences, views and runs

We can take some comfort in the fact that Salzburg have lost three games on the bounce but they sit in second spot in the Austrian Bundesliga, Celtic are fourth in the Scottish Premiership and have won only one of their previous five games.  The Austrians will see just as much comfort in our form.

Success on Thursday will be determined by who manages to overcome their frailties most effectively.  As far as Celtic are concerned, that will mean trying to find the kind of defensive performance that we put in last season.

Our reason for most confidence should be the speed which we can break at, and Salzburg’s only defensive issues.  They shipped three goals to Sturm Graz and Malmo in recent outings.

Many thanks to everyone who has already taken our ‘Who we are and Our Values’ survey, it took just over 1 hour to register 1,000 submissions.  It’ll take you little more than 5 minutes to share your view on some important matters, take a look here.

I’m a wee bit late to the party but I’ve signed up for the Great Scottish Run on 5 October to assist Celtic Foundation’s work in the areas of health, equality, poverty, and learning.  If you’ve already registered with the event, or you have a pair of trainers and an outrageous disregard for the aging process, get involved.

You can register for the Great Scottish Run here and with the Foundation be emailing them, details here.

This is our club, they are your trainers, that is your outrageous disregard for the aging process.  Let’s do it.

The National Lottery can only operate in the UK – so not in an independent Scotland.

We could join the international Olympics and athletics associations as an independent country. As far as I know there is no limit on numbers. But we would need to try to qualify for Eurovision!

I am not taking a leap in the dark.

I know exactly what I ahve. i know any vow’s or promises will not be forthcoming based on many historical precedents.

I believe an Independent Scotland (believe 100% – no leap in dark) will offer my child and all children of Scotland a far more secure future were the gap between the rich an poor will shorten.

I am not scared of change and I see keeping things as they are as a greater Risk to my childs future and that of all our children than I do taking this opportunity to make substantial change to the politics of Scotland and it’s future.

We are not a stupid people. We know there will be challanges. I am willing to stand up to those challanges and be a part of the solution.

I am no longer willing to be controlled by an elitist corrupt organisation guided by big business, arms, corruption and policies which harm the majority of a nation.

If that is a step in the dark. I am sure we will lighten in up in jig time.

    A MUST WATCH

    ——————————————–

    Powerful stuff.

The original speech from The Great Dictator is, for me, the greatest speech ever written and one of the greatest moment of cinema, indeed I quoted it yesterday on this blog in a post about hate.

However, I have one observation to make. In the original speech there are the following words:

“Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill that promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. Now let us fight to fulfill that promise. Let us fight to free the world! TO DO AWAY WITH NATIONAL BARRIERS!”

This adaptation borrows heavily from these words but omits to mention national barriers.

Not a criticism or a declaration of any YES/NO leanings. Just a point I found interesting.

I am going to be frank with you.

If you think wanting people to believe in themselves is an illusion and it is trying to frighten people then you have lost the plot to such a degree that there seems no point in going on talking to you.

A no vote will dent Scotland’s political confidence and it will harm many people’s self esteem. In 2 years many no voters will regret their decision if they win unless they are really just the I’m alright Jack so stuff everyone else lot I believe many of them are.

Scotland is not a confident nation. It is reflected in our sports teams to our belief in our ability to be independent.

You may not see it or wish to acknowledge it but it is there.

Your assessment about the YES campaign being despicable and disgusting with fascist undertones say far more about you than people singing and dancing in the street with joy do.

The bullying you talk about constantly is convenient for you and fuels your biases because the real bullies with the weight of the state in full self-preservation mode and its broadcasters following suit are the no people. They refuse to engage in debates, they refuse to put up speakers at debates, they refused to have debates broadcast to the public, they refused to give people the full information that was in their gift to do so on the currency and the EU, they have told lie after lie for TWO years but the YES people are bullies.

You’d cry if it weren’t so laughably ludicrous.

    Through the looking glass indeed.

Win, or lost tomorrow I think you personally should exercise one of your options you have talked about and leave Scotland. It clearly makes you very uncomfortable and unhappy and contributes to your general attitude.

That won’t change regardless of how that vote goes tomorrow.

I am a member of unite who has withdrawn his political contribution to Labour after they began their downward slop 11 years ago with IRAQ albeit at the time it was AMACUS before the joining together of the unions.

I can never envisage myself voting Labour in a Scottish or UK context in the current climate unless there is a major change away from Conservative policy. there is hardly piece of paper between the two parties now-a-days.

reade the Scotland Act’s and i agree you are correct on the tax raising powers.

As for answering your question re. SNP not raising the tax I honestly cannot answer that question on their part as I neither voted for them or support them, Independence, free education, Health, elderly care, etc apart.

However i will opinion that taxes were not increased due to the SNP’s want for a YES vote in this upcoming election. An election tactic for the referendum.

Hopefully in independence they, or any other party vorted into power will hammer the rich with an increase on their tax band.

As you are aware I am not SNP and I also disagree with their reduction in Corporation Tax. I also hope that they increase the council tax on the higher bandings if they get power.

And if they leave, then tara. more opportunities for others.

Is it taking responsibility “responsible” without thinking about the purpose that taking responsibility will achieve?

Without due thought and consideration of the end purpose any act of taking responsibility is irresponsible.

I’m surprised at the idea independence is the goal , and not a means towards achieving a goal , being the only answer I have had when I’ve asked the question.

Start to ask that question and you should give cause for thought but it seems not.

It seems when a point requiring consideration that does not fit the “independence at any price” thinking is raised that the questioner is himself questioned for thinking something through.

That is extremely dangerous and is probably now my biggest concern for it intimidates thinking things through, the only true independence anyone has.

Scotland does poorly in sport because we have a population not much over 5m. There is a much lower probability that we will throw up a group of good players than say a group of 60m. Our psyche doesn’t enter into it.

  19. Kilbowie Kelt will vote YES on

It is true that the bookies prices are generally the best guide to the outcome of any event…

But it is NOT the bookies who decide on what that price is.

The bookie is not interested in forming opinions. Weight of punters’ money drives the market. The bookies try to estimate the likelihood of each possibility, & price up accordingly.

If a price is taken heavily then that price will shorten correspondingly.

If it is not taken the odds will lengthen until it gets a reaction from punters.

Bookies don’t normally CARE about the outcome, but simply make a profit from the built in margins.

  20. Cant believe this carry on

I hope Scotland reject the sheer contempt which seems to be coming from the unionists.

“they refused to give people the full information that was in their gift to do so on the currency and the EU”

That bit is hilarious, really is. Yes have said we are to pick one of the 4 plan B’s on currency should a CU not be agreed. The SNP spent tens of thousands of £’s fighting an FOI request that showed they lied regarding EU legal advice. There is plenty to criticise BT on, plenty, criticising them on lack of info regarding currency and EU status is ludicrous considering the Yes performance in that field

as for your insistnace on the Yes campaign being bullying and negative. that has to be the funniest thing you have ever written.

there has been bullying on both sides of the campaign but the YES campaign haas been positive, humorous and intelligent. I cannot tar the No’s with any of that. the No side, not on the ground, bnut in the media, in the public eye has been bullying, manipulative, full of FEAR, embarrrassing and Scaremongering and a complete Kaliedescope of Panic in action.

  25. The poor record of Scotland in sport (in general) has nothing to do with population. New Zealand (pop:5M) are dominant in rugby for example. Scotland punches above it’s weight in swimming (because of investment and good coaching). That success breeds confidence.

I would have thot that the cabal would want a YES vote, given they would have more powers, warped logic as usual.

They don’t want a YES cos they know that the scottish people will take control of their own destiny, and the scottish people will fight back, this is their fear, this is why they want the status quo to remain.

Overwhelming majority of Scots ex pats, or which there are many, have already voted or intend to vote No. The joke here being that those without a postal vote are all heading back to Scotland tomorrow on the KLM ‘No thanks’ Express. As for myself i arrive back this evening but will not vote. My family will all be voting. My wife was very much in the Yes camp, unlike the rest of the family, until one of her no voting friends was very recently harassed and physically threatened in a local shopping centre by adults, not kids, for wearing a ‘No Thanks’ badge. She who must be obeyed now intends voting no. Make of that what you will.

  29. Scotland goes full Scottish

    17-09-14

SCOTLAND’S independence referendum has finally caused the country to go full Scottish.

With one day of campaigning left, the debate is now focused on millions of red-faced maniacs calling each other bastards.

Across the country ordinary people have poured onto the streets to scream filth at someone, as light aircraft fly overhead trailing banners that feature heavy use of the ‘c-word’.

On the BBC’s evening news programme in Scotland, the presenter referred to SNP leader Alex Salmond as a ‘spunk stain’, but maintained impartiality by comparing Gordon Brown’s latest speech to ‘an ice cream made of shite’.

Julian Cook, a UN election observer, said: “The Yes campaign has now become a grassroots swearing movement, while the No campaigners turned over a desk and told me they are ‘having none of this pish’.”

A Yes campaign spokesman said: “We’ve asked our volunteers to go out today and call 50 people a bastard.”

A No campaign spokesman turned over a desk and added: “F#% off.”

Cook said: “Luckily Scotland’s not completely obsessed with tribalism, so it should all calm down by Friday afternoon.”
