Defences, views and runs

We can take some comfort in the fact that Salzburg have lost three games on the bounce but they sit in second spot in the Austrian Bundesliga, Celtic are fourth in the Scottish Premiership and have won only one of their previous five games.  The Austrians will see just as much comfort in our form.

Success on Thursday will be determined by who manages to overcome their frailties most effectively.  As far as Celtic are concerned, that will mean trying to find the kind of defensive performance that we put in last season.

Our reason for most confidence should be the speed which we can break at, and Salzburg’s only defensive issues.  They shipped three goals to Sturm Graz and Malmo in recent outings.

Many thanks to everyone who has already taken our ‘Who we are and Our Values’ survey, it took just over 1 hour to register 1,000 submissions.  It’ll take you little more than 5 minutes to share your view on some important matters, take a look here.

I’m a wee bit late to the party but I’ve signed up for the Great Scottish Run on 5 October to assist Celtic Foundation’s work in the areas of health, equality, poverty, and learning.  If you’ve already registered with the event, or you have a pair of trainers and an outrageous disregard for the aging process, get involved.

You can register for the Great Scottish Run here and with the Foundation be emailing them, details here.

This is our club, they are your trainers, that is your outrageous disregard for the aging process.  Let’s do it.

The poor record of Scotland in sport (in general) has nothing to do with population. New Zealand (pop:5M) are dominant in rugby for example.

Deciding to leave Scotland because of the result is extreme and histrionic.

Also-tin hat on-a view I have more widely heard from Yes voters.

    So it’s not just NEGANON.

Point is,I’ve never left the UK because a vote went against me. It simply means there’s another vote to be won.

    SCOTTISH POLICE FEDERATION

    5 Woodside Place, Glasgow, G3 7QF

    MEDIA RELEASE

The Scottish Police Federation represents all police officers in the ranks of constable, sergeant, inspector and chief inspector, police cadets and special constables, over 18,500 people, 98% of all police officers in Scotland.

    To: News Editor

    Date: 17 September 2014

    Subject: Independence Referendum

    In response to increased press reports and comment implying increased crime and disorder as a consequence of the Independence Referendum Brian Docherty, Chairman of the Scottish Police Federation said;

“The Police Service of Scotland and the men and women who work in it should not be used as a political football at any time and especially so in these last few hours of the referendum campaign.

As I have previously stated the referendum debate has been robust but overwhelmingly good natured.

It was inevitable that the closer we came to the 18th of September passions would increase but that does not justify the exaggerated rhetoric that is being deployed with increased frequency. Any neutral observer could be led to believe Scotland is on the verge of societal disintegration yet nothing could be further from the truth.

Scotland’s citizens are overwhelmingly law abiding and tolerant and it is preposterous to imply that by placing a cross in a box, our citizens will suddenly abandon the personal virtues and values held dear to them all.

At this time it is more important than ever that individuals be they politicians, journalists or whoever should carefully consider their words, maintain level heads and act with respect. Respect is not demonstrated by suggesting a minority of mindless idiots are representative of anything. One of the many joys of this campaign has been how it has awakened political awareness across almost every single section of society. The success enjoyed by the many should not be sullied by the actions of the few.

Police officers must be kept free from the distractions of rhetoric better suited to the playground that the political stump. If crime has been committed it will be investigated and dealt with appropriately but quite simply police officers have better things to do than officiate in spats on social media and respond to baseless speculation of the potential for disorder on and following polling day”

  6. “Scotland is not a confident nation. ”

Fascinating. Would a No vote lessen or increase confidence? Not as obvious an answer as might be thought.

  7. I have read several comments on here pleading for respect in the Y/N posts. I have just read a few posts this morning and, as far as a casual scan allows, I found only Neganon2 and Bawsman to be abusive and personal in expressing their viewpoints. So, in the main, I would say that the debate on here is reasonable.

A couple of minor issues in the event of a Yes vote.

What happens to the National Lottery or Euromillions? Suppose we won’t be able to enter either of those draws?

Also what about future Olympic and world Athletics events? will Scotland participate or is there a cut off to the amount of nations who can compete?

    Are you taking the piss??

  9. After watching CL games last night, I am even more gutted that Celtic didn’t make it into the group stages. Tell you one thing though. For a team not having been in the CL for five yeaars those liverpool fans really don’t know how to celebrate a winning penalty in the last minute of a CL game. You’d have thought they were celebrating a dreary wee victory in the EPL on any other given day. More so especially considering they had just went 1-0 up an conceded to a goal to even the scores up.

Celtic Park would have been going bonkers. Although half the fans may have been away and in their vehicles by that time. :-)

A No vote does NOT mean those deciding thus are happy with the way power is currently centred.

It means in my case that I think the cure is worse than the disease, like lopping off a leg because there is an outbreak of boils that can be cures by other means.

When it comes to being driven by fear no human being is immune from that thinking. It’s natural self preservation after the first man to see his pal eaten by a crocodile deciding swimming in that part of the river was not a good idea.

So what are we all ( and I mean ALL ) including me running away from?

The answer is we do not know, the Croc has not appeared so we make them up.

England is not a hotbed of right wingers, the current Govt is NOT forever and the only thing we can be sure of in life is things change.

Catastrophic thinking is the term for the fears being expressed on all sides.

What will be will be but if ever there was an opportunity to think about what we think and why, it is now.
