Demonising liquidation carries risk

990

I didn’t hear the scores of other games this weekend until today when I read a red card protest (remember the day Celtic fans gave birth to this concept?) occurred at Ibrox to demonstrate disapproval to any potential new owner who plans to liquidate Rangers.

It would be preferable to everyone if Rangers paid their bills, restoring a degree of dignity, although apparently no one is offering to do this.  Publicly bidders for the club will all confirm their preference is to exit administration via a Creditors Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).  Offering pennies in the pound for a company is unquestionably a great deal, for the buyer, but whoever is nominated as preferred bidder this week is likely to have a serious option to liquidate the club.

Demonising the liquidation option carries risks for Rangers fans.  Short of raising considerably more money than they have thus far and paying their bills, there is little fan power can do right now.  If liquidation is the best option for creditors it will happen, better to accept the reality of the situation.  Whatever the resulting phoenix club is called, if the new owners inherit animosity from the start it will only diminish the potential of their new club.

  1. NEIL LENNON is ready to step up his efforts to keep on-loan keeper Fraser Forster at Celtic. The Hoops boss is anxious to tie up the giant Forster, 24, on a permanent £2million move from Newcastle United. With the SPL title finally wrapped up, Lennon wants a quick answer from the Englishman as he is already planning for next season’s bid to make the Champions League group stages and retain the title. But if Forster tells him he wants to return south then Lennon will quickly look elsewhere — with out-of-contract Sunderland and Scotland star Craig Gordon high on a short-list of alternative targets. Talks with Forster’s agent have been ongoing since the start of the year with the 6ft 7ins keeper insisting recently he’ll hold off on sorting his future until the summer. However the new SPL champions don’t wish to wait that long. Lennon and chief scout John Park have been forced to consider other keepers in case Forster — who has 23 shut-outs in 42 games this term — opts to head back south. He still has two years left on his contract at Newcastle, with West Ham and a host of other clubs tracking his situation. Ex-Hearts No1 Gordon looks certain to quit the Black Cats having failed to shift Belgian ace Simon Mignolet after his lengthy injury lay-off and joining Celtic would appeal. Hoops chief executive Peter Lawwell thrashed out an agreement with Newcastle last August over a potential purchase when striking the season-long loan arrangement and Toon boss Alan Pardew is content to let Forster leave his hometown club. Now it’s all down to Forster, whose form has had Lennon touting him for an England call-up. He’s been inspirational this season, winning over many critics who were unconvinced about him after a first loan spell at Parkhead last season. Lennon has already got Polish back-up Lukasz Zaluska signed up on a new three-year deal. Forster will be in goal for Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Hearts.

It will not have escaped your notice that Sky and ESPN have so far failed to return draft contracts sent to them in 2011.

    Window of opportunity?

  3. Serge. Forster for me has been outstanding , but to put off contract talk till end of season sounds as if he has had an offer

It will be a shame to see him go if he has decides he wants to go back to the EPL. He has definitely improved working with Stevie Woods. I would love to see him sign a long term contract, He is definitely Englands number 1 in the making. Craig Gordon is a decent keeper and it would be good to get him on a pre contract if FF decides to leave. HH

Excellent post, putting as well as anyone the case for Ed Ursus to be banned for being a hun.

There has been more discussion abut his presence than about his comments!

That said,I disagree with what you and a lot of others have said on the subject, but I think you are right to say what you think. I have no problem with that.

Equally,I have no problem with Ed,nor with a great many Rangers fans of my acquaintance.

In my world I can’t for the life of me see how the SPL/SFA would allow Ranger’s continued participation if they go for a CVA. In my world they should only be allowed back in when their outstanding debts are paid in full, or a debt-repayment plan for all the outstanding debts is put into place. But, as I say that’s just in my world and the longer I live the more lonely I feel in my world.

And the Singapore based businessman insists he can’t wait to sit down with Ally McCoist and thrash out a masterplan for new signings that will put the Ibrox club back on the rails.

The 52-year-old former stockbroker who is heading one of three groups seeking to secure preferred bidder staus has flown to Malaysia for talks with the Berjaya Group – the owners of Cardiff City – for help and advice assuming his offer for the club is successful when Administrators announce their preference tomorrow.

Ng claims to be a lifelong supporter of Rangers who first caught the bug for the club when he watched them winning the European Cup-Winners Cup in Barcelona on his TV in his homeland in 1972.

Now he wants others to experience the same feeling insisting he is not in the battle for control to make a quick buck or to liquidate the business.

That has fair cheered me up.

  21. BERAM KAYAL last night revealed he could be back in action in time for Celtic’s championship coronation. And the Israeli ace has pleaded with his colleagues to do the business against Hearts in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final as he hopes to make a late surge to snare a spot in the team if they reach the May 19 final. Kayal hasn’t played this year having been crocked in last December’s 1-0 Old Firm victory over Rangers on the night when his team claimed top spot in the SPL. Surgery was required on the ankle injury he sustained in a bruising tackle with Lee McCulloch and the initial diagnosis ruled him out for the rest of the season. But, despite medical staff writing off his campaign, Kayal has remained defiant through his rehabilitation that he could be back before the campaign’s climax. The midfielder joined his team-mates on the Rugby Park pitch on Saturday as they celebrated winning the club’s 43rd league crown. But Kayal wants to be back in a competitive sense and believes there is hope for a season 2011-12 comeback. The international star is convinced he’s making good enough progress on the fitness front and is hopeful of playing a part in the rest of the season.

With Celtic due to receive the SPL trophy on the final day of the campaign after the game against Hearts, Kayal wants to be involved. And he’d also love a crack at Hampden the following week if his team-mates can see off Paulo Sergio’s men in this week’s semi-final clash. Kayal said: “I still hope to return this season and win Celtic the Scottish Cup. “This championship was sweet because we worked so hard all season and we believe we’re the best team. “Every player in our squad contributed to the cause so we could all enjoy this wonderful moment.” Earlier this year, Kayal admitted he’d become tougher after battling through so many setbacks. He said: “Mentally, it was very difficult for me because in the last two years I’ve had to go through so many operations. “I’ve had a hernia, a broken wrist and now this.

“It was hard but I believe I’ll return to being the same player as soon as possible. I believe in myself.” Kayal will comfortably qualify for an SPL winner’s medal after starting 18 league games for Neil Lennon’s side this season, but still holds outside hope of adding to that tally.
