Demonising liquidation carries risk

990

I didn’t hear the scores of other games this weekend until today when I read a red card protest (remember the day Celtic fans gave birth to this concept?) occurred at Ibrox to demonstrate disapproval to any potential new owner who plans to liquidate Rangers.

It would be preferable to everyone if Rangers paid their bills, restoring a degree of dignity, although apparently no one is offering to do this.  Publicly bidders for the club will all confirm their preference is to exit administration via a Creditors Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).  Offering pennies in the pound for a company is unquestionably a great deal, for the buyer, but whoever is nominated as preferred bidder this week is likely to have a serious option to liquidate the club.

Demonising the liquidation option carries risks for Rangers fans.  Short of raising considerably more money than they have thus far and paying their bills, there is little fan power can do right now.  If liquidation is the best option for creditors it will happen, better to accept the reality of the situation.  Whatever the resulting phoenix club is called, if the new owners inherit animosity from the start it will only diminish the potential of their new club.

  2. TET :- I understand the points you are making and from the story you told can understand why you feel the way you do, what happened to your boy was a disgrace and evil.

You mentioned I said I used to sing sectarian songs at Ibrox and I did, but as I said at the time I was a young teenager and as I started to question things in life (not just football related) it dawned on me that the blood I was singing about wasn’t from mythical abstract “fenien” but it was the people who lived up the stair, in the next close, pals I played football with and family members, so I came to the conclusion it was wrong and stopped.

btw I don’t use the word “fenien ” as an insult but to try and emphasise how my thought process changed at that stage in my life and to make clear what song we are talking about.

Like yourself I try not to hate and feel we all have far more in common than we have differences that seperate us.

I don’t expect this to change your views in any way but hope that you will consider that yes there are evil folk that follow Rangers but there are also folk who try not to be.

    Yours in football

    Abe Lincoln said :-

“My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause.”

“Do the people of the South really entertain fears that a Republican administration would, directly, or indirectly, interfere with their slaves, or with them, about their slaves? If they do, I wish to assure you, as once a friend, and still, I hope, not an enemy, that there is no cause for such fears.”

“I repeat the declaration made a year ago, that ‘while I remain in my present position I shall not attempt to retract or modify the emancipation proclamation, nor shall I return to slavery any person who is free by the terms of that proclamation, or by any of the Acts of Congress.’ If the people should, by whatever mode or means, make it an Executive duty to re-enslave such persons, another, and not I, must be their instrument to perform it.”

The truth is rarely simple but it is often presented simplistically. I suspect I have read a lot more of Lincoln than you have heard about him.

Some may say it was all banter and just some fun.

Edward could comment on his take on it ?

The way the majority of rangers fans behave make up Scotland’s shame and we will witness it again on the 29 April.

If ever I wanted something to die it is that bigoted club.

Oh, and also a bloke called Carlos Casteneda, who wrote a few books, the first was the teachings of Don Juan, sort of stuck with me they did.

  10. AoW :- I started posting on the blog way back when surfing the web I clicked a ling to an article on the late Mr Stein which led me to a post by Paul67.

I used a name that made sure folk knew I followed Rangers and got into some discussion with the folk who posted at the time.

I enjoyed debates on football and many subjects that had nothing to do with football and eventually met a few folk from the site in a very enjoyable night in Hamilton.

Over the past two to three year I got more involved in local football and attended senior games less and less but still lurked and made the occasional post, if Rangers beat Celtic or lifted a trophy I would come on and have a good natured dig, if Celtic were on top I thought it only fair to come on and take my lumps.

It was with that in mind I came on to pass on my congratulations on the league win and while some found it controversial many posts from folk I used to debate with made me realise how much I missed the patter, much of it from folk I have a huge respect for.

A couple of posts from tonight illustrate what I mean with Martin42 “Standing up for the champions” which was a sort of running joke between us at one point and a few posters mentioning Pablophanque who was someone I had a great admiration for.

There were other reasons, one being I hoped I could show another side to Rangers supporters and that we weren’t all haters.

The above is just a quick summation but I hope it gives a rough gist of what I mean.

  11. Rascar Capac – Sorry i missed you mate! Would have been good to meet. I said to Pam on the door that a guy from CQN with your handle might turn up! :-)

I would say that I do not hate huns, huns being the intolerant bigots that refuse to see me as a person of intrinsic value because of some lable they have attached to me to rationalise their hate.

But what I do hate is what they sometimes bring out in me because that (a hater) is not who I choose to be, and they act as a reminder of the distance I have still to travel to exercise the love of Christ. But even that is OK for they are the thorns that are part of the grand plan if you subscribe to the meanng of

    2 Corinthians 12:7-10

    New International Version (NIV)

” or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

What the hate that I see at times from huns (as defined) can do if I am not careful is to feed my own hate. In that respect this, that I have posted before, helps retain balance.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

My brother-in-law is a 30 year season ticket holder at I-brokes and he just doesn’t get it as to why most Celtic fans want to see the demise of Rangers. He thinks that we are being hateful despite the overwhelming evidence of financial doping AKA cheating that has been going on for God knows how long. It’s a case of monkey see etc… His astounding logic is that it is not the players fault so move on!!! I’ve said on here before that we – my brother-in-law and I have NEVER seen the same Celtic vs Rangers game.

Edward…..I’m mainly a lurker , occasional poster , but I remember you from being on here in the past.

I always respected your posts , even when they where triumphant as your team had won a trophy or a big match, as I looked on your posts as being similar to what my Rangers supporting acquaintances were saying at the time.

Happy , but not surprised to see you on here congratulating us this weekend .

In the past I’ve congratulated my Rangers supporting acquaintances on a title win , but that was obviously before I realised they had cheated by spending other peoples money to put a team on the park they couldn’t afford.

I know it’s not the fault of you or the decent guys I know , but what are your thoughts on the fact that for at least the last 12 years Rangers have cheated by spending other peoples money (the tax payer) and now seem to be looking for the best way out that shafts everyone they owe money too ??

  27. AoW, Larsson & McStay :- I said earlier I thought the tax avoidance wrong, no if’s or but’s it may even be criminal. The people who did it should be held responsible as not only have they probably broken the law but may well have killed the club I have followed as far back as I can remember. (My first game was aged 5 in 1962 when my Dad was home on leave, the only thing I remember from it was a diving save from B Ritchie, years later I looked up the result and we were beaten 3 – 2)

From being a season ticket holder until a couple of year ago I now never attend as I’m too busy with football at a lower level plus it was getting to the stage that if I attended Rangers games that was my spare money for the week away.

They are still the first result I look for in the seniors and no doubt if as seems likely they go under then the pheonix club will still be the first result I look for but I don’t see myself returning to Ibrox any time soon. I take in three or four games a week at amateur and youth level two because it’s the amateur or youth team I’m involved with and the others to check out players, so I probably wouldn’t miss them as much as many.

However I feel that SDM and CW have combined to ruin the club and have cheated us Rangers supporters as much as they have others.
