Determined by Dundee

364

It will be 4 May before action resumes at Celtic Park, by then we will know if we have reached the Scottish Cup Final and positions at the top of the table will be significantly determined by Dundee.  I’m pleased our manager has not spent the best part of two weeks throwing material to be pinned to the dressing room door their way.  Maybe Brendan is too experienced to do this?  Maybe he’s just not over-anxious.

We have scored 13 goals in three games against Dundee this season, conceding only once (when we were seven goals ahead), so Brendan Rodgers will have no complaints that the post-split fixtures send us away there, instead of another trip to St Mirren, which was the alternative.

It is also good to get this game out of the way first, leaving us with three games at home from the final four.  All will be difficult, but the incentive is a huge motivation.

  2. Regarding the hand ball by Souttar last night.

Whoever put the video link commented that Rangers* are so confident of getting penalties that Lundstrum claimed for it before he realised it was his own player! 😂

Tom McL – congratulations on your winning treble.

Long live the bookie beaters !!!!!!!

Mncelt – good call out of Sevco commentator’s revisionism (There wasn’t even a title race in November).

It’s not just the fact that they do this … but also how quickly they can reset the relative position to spin success.

This does not happen by accident. Depends on an embedded culture that demands be done.

    Typifies Sevco priorities.

    – Retain the hook into the mugs (using Celtic as a reference wherever possible) at all costs

    – Win the back pages

    – (once in a while) win silverware

  7. I try not to be complacent about Sevco ,yes we are 3 points ahead of them ,but we have been down this road before with us losing to Kilmarnock and Hearts etc in doing so we handed advantage to them ,just remember that,

  8. Philippe Clement on Sunday –

“It’s not an excuse but everybody was more busy with things outside of football than football in the club”.

Paul67 – do you have any insight regarding this ? Was he referring to the cancellation of the Dundee game or is there another “story” being suppressed ?

  9. That Souttar handball is the worst decision I’ve seen yet and the mib staring at it.!!!

    Cheating at its most blatant!!!

    Nice one, SS.

Sevco have taken 5 points from last 5 league games.

1 PPG is “Just above relegation” form at the worst possible time.

    Sevco are crumbling.

What their fans have been peddled as “getting closer …. then moving up a gear to victory” is in fact a team inevitably burning out after throttling at 103% for six months under the new manager.

Half a year in the job – having been fully insulated from reality or criticism – Philippe Clement is being found out (both in terms of personality AND capability)

As for the players …. Fatigue and the old muscle memory fading are impacting them markedly.

From the highlights last night for example – Tavernier and Goldson CLEARLY playing injured.

BUT (and the big but is intentional) ….. there is no room for complacency.

We are 2 PPG for the same 5-game period. That is not title winning form.

Celtic are playing quite well AND improving but we are not close to that almost unbeatable level we’ve become used to.

If we were at that level we would have beaten Hearts and Sevco and the league would be over.

    Focus, hunger and humility required.

If we get each of these sufficiently? …. we might just pull this off.

My final tuppence on Dundee – Sevco if I may.

Last time the two teams played a league game at Dens Park?

    5-0 to Sevco.

A drop off from 5-0 to 0-0 in just 5½ months is quite a feat.

PS – Sevco turned up late for that game – resulting in kick off being delayed by 45 minutes.

I’m trying to locate the Dundee FC statement from that time that refers to

“The negligence and unprofessionalism demonstrated by R@ngers Football Club” ….

…. but no luck so far.

Good morning all from the Victoria Bar.

    Tam McLaughlin

You staying around for a few beers after the game?

  15. As shown our rivals recent results over their last five games illustrate just how close we were to finishing second to a team who have taken only one point from us. They have dropped ten points in that recent run of games. (got beat by Benfica too). Now of course that view has to be tempered by the fact that in or around five or six earlier games they have benefited from key decisions at key times which help earn them full points. Points which put them in the position where they could take advantage of our own inconsistent form, and the negative positions taken by both our manager and our captain. We are in the driving seat now. First up in the Cup and in front in the SPL.

    Now Lets Get It Done!

  16. SURELY, the Mini Huns MUST really FANCY their chances against the Huns in the Cup this Sunday ?

Every Hertz player MUST be itching to get at the the Huns in this Semi Final Cup Tie….even Mr Shankland ?

I will assume that many Sevco players, Coaching staff, Manager…and Fans MUST be really nervous right now leading up to Sundays cup tie ?

A WIN for Hertz is now a real possibility, considering the Huns shocking form ?

I think I will have a couple of Bets on the Mini Huns.
