tonydonnelly67. I dont think snake is being negative he is telling as he sees it and a lot of Celtic fans would agree. To be honest I dont know what to make of Rony as a manager as a bloke he seems a real nice guy but he keeps talking a good game as he did again after our defeat last night. However,as you know you have to walk the walk not just talk the talk and that is where it is coming unstuck for me I think this January transfer window will show what ambition there is at board level and wither they back Rony with the new players he wants.I know you call it as you see it which is good and keep chasing those huns on CQN. H.H.

  2. If I am being honest I don’t think we will get past the next round of the EL, but I think we should enjoy it, as getting this far in the competition seemed a long, long way away after Legia and Maribor. Since the EL group stages Celtic have exceeded my expectations, so I am happy with progress to the round of 32. A domestic treble, or even double, seems more important this season to me than getting past the next round of the EL.

  3. LiviBhoy – a fine, rational post. That kind of behaviour will never catch on.

I agree it looks like we will click against someone soon, probably domestically. I know which game I’d choose if I could.

  4. Does anyone know why Kayal was not playing last night ?

He wasn’t even on the bench.

We played away from home again with only 2 in MF and got totally over ran.

We always need to have 3 in MF, last night especially with no Brown or Mulgrew, Kayal would have been the obvious choice to partner Biton and Johansson.

  5. I contrast Deila with Wim Jansen . Wim was a coach who knew what he wanted and was able to get the players to adapt to his way . He had a ridged disaplined system in which every player knew what was required of them. And it worked. We became champions in spite of the huns having a more expensive squad.

hes complaining about a one year contract, ronny shold say learn how to trap the ball and we will give you two.

cold ronny be the ultimate show off and win the treble just so he can round parkheed with his boxers on and nowt else.

Just caught it, you reference to Daily Record after browsing newspaper reports, Michael Gannon ( nice lad) and January sales ! No mate, I was in first, not a plagiarist ! Next you’ll be accusing me of mendacity!

Anyway, January window a must. Prefer the home market eg young Armstrong. Far too many dumplins from Europe have come and gone.Worse still, some have come and stayed!

Kris Commons is an unhappy footballer. The basics are difficult because he is unsettled. Nothing is clicking for him.

I think the one year deal Kris has been offered is not great. I think he deserves a 2 year deal but then I am not the manager. I would let Kris go in January and wish him well. Great servant for Celtic but everyone’s time is up eventually.

Wim was helped by the fact that he had the final say on who came to the club. I read Jock Brown saying that his acrimony with Wim really kicked on over the Paul Lambert signing; jock brown tried to kybosh that signing and suggested Jim Magilton instead at a cheaper price. Wim was having none of it.

I don’t think Ronny has the same latitude to sign his own men- look at the signing of guys like Tonev Wakaso scepovic who have barely featured but were all on John Park’s list of projects.

  10. Can’t say I’m happy with a defeat – but the objective was to qualify from the group and we did that,

It was a weakened team last night too. How many of that starting eleven will play in our next European match? I reckon only Gordon, Izzy, VVD and Johansen.

We have five league games now over the xmas period with no distractions. We can take the opportunity to build a lead before our winter break.

What a very moving post about Mario from Croatia. I have saved it for future reading.

As Celtic’s (self) appointed ambassador to Croatia I would also want to help if there is anything I could do to help Mario to experience more of Celtic.

I am often in Croatia but not always near Zagreb as I go to the west coast but maybe I could visit him with a gift for example if he cannot travel much.

If you have any ideas, please feel free to contact me using hrvatskijim@gmail.com

  12. Without making a signing we have half a team to come in for next round of Europe.

Lustig Denayer, Brown, Forrest & Guidetti. Stokes, who appears to be a first pick under RD only on bench. With two or three signings only Gordon, VVD, Johansen and Izzy from last night will play in the next round (fitness permitting).

What we have seen over RD’s first 6 months is that there is too much deadwood, too many living on past glories, too many picking up a healthy salary and in a comfort zone. Solving this is as important as getting new players in. We need to do both in January and plan for CL qualifier in July.

  13. Adelaide v Brisbane….. Brisbane go 1 up through a screaming, bending arrowed sweep of the boot, across the face of the bemused and flat footed keeper, catching the inside of the goalie’s left post and rippling the rigging high up in the corner.

The commentator says it lodged up “where the spiders live.”

Never heard that before….I may use it…..in fact get a bet on it :) .

Loved your post about the Hun in your work and the minutes silence, how is the wee man?

Thanks for asking. Wee man is fine. Santa daft at the minute. Just saved my CQN annual from being mauled last night. We sat in the bedroom and watched the first half together. He just kept shouting Come On every couple of minutes. Hillarious!

Mrs LB was putting the tree up and he was offski in the second half to look at it. Great times.

  17. Quite a good piece in The Herald by Gerry Braiden about UKIP’s plans to use a bit of good old fashioned sectarianism as a vote winner in Scotland.

  18. Its weird reading that so many fhans are positive about yet another european defeat when the visionary himself was not happy….

Deila has a few big decisions to make for the weekend

    Persist with the poor Matthews?

McGregor ? Henderson did more in 20 mins than McGregor has done for months …Henderson will add drive , speed and application …and provide some cover for the RB

Wakaso , Berget and Tonev…no thanks …what a collective waste of money

Scepovic needs game time …his goal to time on pitch ratio is reasonable ….he will score goals

A much better transfer window is required …the last one was a shambles…Guidetti and Denayer have been good …we will be lucky to have either long term

  20. There is no crisis but Ronny set the team up wrong last night and waited too long to make substitutions. Anyway we move on. Christmas window will reveal if the Board are backing Ronny or treating him as a low cost puppet. Squad now heavily weighed down with deadwood, major pruning required as a matter of urgency.

Re deadwood …unfortunately a reasonable proportion was brought in in the summer

  23. Livibhoy – i always take the time to read your posts. I agree with some of what you say but had to laugh when I saw you were suggesting ‘battlers’ against Dundee.

That to me sums up the opposition Ronny is facing, as Scottish football is facing in general, in moving forward.

Do you think the likes of Ajax, Red Bull or Basel would look at Dundee – with Harkins, McGowan, Thomson and Ferry and say to bring in the battlers?

    Not for me

  24. Livibhoy

I see the time is up for kris commons and everyones time will come

I wonder who has done most for celtic rony or kris?

When do you think ronys time will come?

  25. corkcelt

Disagree. I felt he gave decent game time to players who needed it to prove what they can do. Henderson was the only player who may have deserved a start but he has been out for months and it would have been difficult to put him straight in.

Bitton looks a very able player but has one pace. Slow. He needs to start applying himself better. McGregor was started because he has a decent scoring record in Europe. The Bhoy needs a rest and some sun. I would pack him off for a week to relax.

I have said it before and I will say it again regarding Craig Gordon he is the most experienced man at the back and Deila must tell him to organise that defence because until we get an experienced battle weary centre back to run the show there it is clear the current personnel can;t do it. Scott Brown and Gordon appear to be the only leaders in the squad. We need to sign another one. I would prefer another in defence. I would be delighted if we could secure a Ramon Vega type player.

Lustig back training so Matthews will drop out, Fisher should play on Sunday if Lustig not ready yet. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Matthews move on in January.

Forrest will replace McGregor but Henderson should be getting more games.

We should play two up front (Guidetti and Scepovic) v St Mirren with Forrest behind them.

Tonev & Berget should definitely be returned to parent club, not seen enough of Wakaso yet but given he’ll be disappearing for 6 weeks from January then looking like another pointless signing.

Well we say – he had half his first team out and he thinks – there shouldn’t be a ‘first’ team I want a squad where I can bring players in without a massive detrimental effect.

We pretty much all have a base standpoint happy clappers/ mineshafters / happy shafters and clappy miners and that will inform our feelings on the game.

For me, I’m glad he didn’t say it was a nothing game and a good chance to give some fringe players a run about. It shows that he wants a whole squad he can depend on.

Short term thinking to be honest. When Ronny has his style of play and vision at full flow it will not be required but in the mean time we need to play Dundee with a bit of steel in the side. Horses for courses so to speak.

    Tamrabam

Celtic have offered Kris a 1 year deal. Kris decided to tell the press he was not happy with that. His perfomances this season have been below par. Personally I would give Commons a 2 year deal. I think he deserves it for what he has given the club, however on recent showing Kris doesn;t look happy. I think his head has been turned by another club (maybe Bolton? Who knows?) Celtic don;t look like moving on their one year offer so his time is up. I am not one for greetin about players when their mind is made up. When they go it’s because they want to. I did not cry for Di Canio his time as up. I didn;t mourn Hooper who wanted to go long before he got his move and I didn;t feel sorry for Ledley when Celtic forced him to fly to London and sign a contract for Crystal Palace (sarcasm).

When they go they go with my best wishes and we move on.

Ronny is the current gaffer and most managers want their own men. Guys who know what is required and are happy to sign for the club under the managers terms. Ronny’s time will be up when his own players are not producing the goods for him. We have seen it plenty times he deserves at least this season and longer in my opinion. Defeats are fine if we learn from them. If we were not scoring goals I would be more concerned. Our progress at the minute is acceptable. Ronny is changing a lot of things at the football club. We deserve to give him time.

If you don;t allow change you stay the same and then gradually go backwards. The vision is different. Fitness is the key. Blending the players is vital. The blend is not quite right yet. Once Ronny has the blend right and has the right players we will see more of his vision. The signs are there. The signs are also there about who will no longer be part of the squad going forward unfortunately at this point it looks like Kris won;t be. That is football.
