Doncaster has failed Scottish football fans

503

Alasdair Lamont’s article for BBC this evening after meeting SPL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, is bound to provoke debate.  The article is titled, “Newco Rangers could avoid sanctions from SPL”, although that claim is not supported by any direct quote from Doncaster.  It could be that Doncaster made a supporting comment which wasn’t covered in the article, or that Alasdair is extrapolating from Doncaster’s comment that he is “not entirely sure why a distinction is made between the two routes [CVA or a Newco] out of administration”.

Before we open on what Doncaster actually said, it’s worth pointing out that he has never previously indicated that a Newco was likely to gain access to the SPL without penalty, despite being asked this question directly on a number of occasions.  Indeed, he has proposed a number of penalties for such an eventuality, although any decision will now rest with a general meeting of the clubs, which he will not have a vote at.

To what Doncaster said:

“Newco is typically the way businesses in general escape from administration.”

Oh no it’s not.  Businesses, in general, conclude their period of administration either by emerging with a CVA or by going out of business.  The swathes of business failures across the UK in recent years has seen only a tiny percentage phoenix as a Newco.  This statement is erroneous and misleading.

Doncaster added:

“I am not entirely sure why a distinction is made between the two routes out of administration.”

Let me explain, Mr Doncaster.  In Scottish football history, no club has ever come out of administration as a Newco.  Ever.  Third Lanark, Airdrieonians and Gretna all failed to achieve a CVA and went out of business.  Morton, Clydebank (now Airdrie United), Motherwell, Dundee (twice) and Livingston (twice), all achieved a CVA and remained in football.

Mr Doncaster must think that we are all daft, have no access to Scottish football records and have a complete ignorance of how “businesses in general” operate.  He wishes to provide a Newco-Rangers with direct access to the top league in Scottish football, the first time anything like this has ever happened.  Perhaps being frank with us on this matter would be advisable.

Even if I was of a mind to agree with Doncaster that rules should be changed to allow Newco direct access to the SPL, his feeble attempts to convince fans of the merits of this idea would leave me ruing the inadequacy of his plan’s execution.

All of this will be a welcome distraction from the main issue for Doncaster.  The SPL allowed last season to conclude without letting clubs or fans know if Rangers competed with ineligible players.  They have been in possession of the information required for over six weeks now but have no intention of letting fans know the outcome until after Newco is voted into the league.

It’s too late now.  Doncaster has had his chance to report and his inquiry has failed to do so.  It has now been taken out of his hands. He has failed you and all Scottish football fans.

It’s time for football executives to relinquish power and for the old media, the fans, the new media and the authorities to take control.

I take your point and understand the passion and analysis behind it. However, for a long time my views have always been the same and that is that PL, DD et al are merely figure heads in situ at6 Parkhead. We hope that ultimately their aspirations and ethos are the same as the supporters and the generations who have gone before. In the end though what Celtic represents is not determined in a boardroom it is expressed by us.

Completely agree and I WILL ALWAYS respect those that emotionally can´t turn the knife so stop taking it personally.

I will however respect more those that can and are prepared to stick the knife into those that they love for the greater good and to help those that just can´t do it.

We (as a support) have been here before and it proved to be the right thing to do.

BTW a similar situation …… a group telling us that they knew better when in fact they were just out of their depth and protecting their own unwarranted incomes.

Nice piece and reflects my own sentiments.

In all of this pit of corruption you touched on the new heights that ” the honest mistakes ” reached thus ensuring the financial survival og Rangers ( at least it deferred the day of reckoning ).For me this will be the final piece in the jigsaw ( and probably the most difficult to prove ) when the story is eventually written up and analysed.

I have supported Celtic for over 60 years- my early days are filled with memories of catching a hudgie from the Gorbals ( taking care to jump of before Bridgton Cross ) and then sourcing someone to lift me over the turnstile.Charlie Tully,Bobby Collins,Bobby Evans,Duncan McKay,Paddy Crerand,Jim Kennedy,Mick Haughney,Sean Fallon…….and on and on.Great days and great memories and through it all was the constant message that Celtic was a special club, formed for noble reasons and stood up to bullies for an underpriviledged class of people. We welcomed all.

I have experienced first hand their prejudices but learned how to deal with that.

An edicated,confident,all-embracing Celtic family now needs to stand together and reject the social engineering that is being foisted upon us.

Personally, the only route acceptable is for Rangers ( currently in administration )to accept the reality of their self inflicted position and go to the end of the queue.

No to queue jumping. No to Newco joining the SPL.

A Hun team in the SPL will be the definitive confirmation that Scottish football is nothing more than a money grubbing fix —— by the Hun for the Hun..

Might as well allow them [ and only them ] to play with 2 balls

    ___________________________

To continue with your analogy of THEMS having ‘2 balls’, these things can only happen if the other clubs have NO BALLS.

I can’t get it out of my head that, a deal was struck by the hun directors and, the masons on the Celtic board to….bring in BTM as manager so that the huns would win the league and survive ?

I mean….WGS had just blown 4iar for us and, DD lew to the other end of the world to beg him to stay on as manager ??? WTF ?

So, what or, WHO decided to go for a manager, BTM who, in a league of 20 managers……finished 20th ???

    No……me neither ?

And, don’t forget….the season BTM was in charge and, as you point out….the rise in ‘honest-mistakes’ reached alarming levels yet, how did Celtic respond to these ‘honest-mistakes’ ?

By sending a letter of complaint to the BBC’s Chris McGlauchlin signed by….a source ??? WTF ?

I mean…the Celtic board, backed by former Cabinet Minister DJR….didny even have the b###s to put their name to the letter ???

Surely, the handling of that incident alone was more than enough evidence to the establishment that….Celtic FC is a house of cards ???

At Celtic its a case of….”Gie’s yer SB money then, sod-off!”

1994 was then and this is now, as yet any proposals to oust the board would be based on supposition and heresay.

If it comes to it I’ll be the first one in the car park asking for their removal but until then we should give them our backing in every manner possible.

  13. My season ticket renewals remain unsigned.

I am playing a game with myself.

It will take a minor miracle for me not to renew, but as very small part of me thinks this whole thing stinks.

Celtic have no option but to remain within the SPL if they plan to survive.

Part of me thinks that they are doing the right thing saying nothing at present ,and part of me say’s that they should be raising merry hell.

The longer this goes on,and the meeker Celtic appear. The greater the chance becomes that i will walk away from Scottish football.

There are other things i could do with my hard earned cash and limited recreational time.

Anyone who knows me will be astounded that i am even considering not renewing.

As i say, i most likely will, but it is not a certainty.

I just cannot get my head around the fact that The Scottish game will be corrupted forever if they go without fair and proper punishment.

Turning out to watch /support Celtic playing in the same league as the corrupt , cheating Hun is [ in my opinion ] the equivalent of saying — ” We know you cheated , we know we were cheated, we suspect that you will continue to be allowed to cheat , but Hey , that’s Ok — let’s play ball ”

Each to their own , each to their own moral choice but I will refuse to condone and legitimize being cheated by and for a win by any means necessary Hun Hegemony .
