Doncaster has failed Scottish football fans

503

Alasdair Lamont’s article for BBC this evening after meeting SPL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, is bound to provoke debate.  The article is titled, “Newco Rangers could avoid sanctions from SPL”, although that claim is not supported by any direct quote from Doncaster.  It could be that Doncaster made a supporting comment which wasn’t covered in the article, or that Alasdair is extrapolating from Doncaster’s comment that he is “not entirely sure why a distinction is made between the two routes [CVA or a Newco] out of administration”.

Before we open on what Doncaster actually said, it’s worth pointing out that he has never previously indicated that a Newco was likely to gain access to the SPL without penalty, despite being asked this question directly on a number of occasions.  Indeed, he has proposed a number of penalties for such an eventuality, although any decision will now rest with a general meeting of the clubs, which he will not have a vote at.

To what Doncaster said:

“Newco is typically the way businesses in general escape from administration.”

Oh no it’s not.  Businesses, in general, conclude their period of administration either by emerging with a CVA or by going out of business.  The swathes of business failures across the UK in recent years has seen only a tiny percentage phoenix as a Newco.  This statement is erroneous and misleading.

Doncaster added:

“I am not entirely sure why a distinction is made between the two routes out of administration.”

Let me explain, Mr Doncaster.  In Scottish football history, no club has ever come out of administration as a Newco.  Ever.  Third Lanark, Airdrieonians and Gretna all failed to achieve a CVA and went out of business.  Morton, Clydebank (now Airdrie United), Motherwell, Dundee (twice) and Livingston (twice), all achieved a CVA and remained in football.

Mr Doncaster must think that we are all daft, have no access to Scottish football records and have a complete ignorance of how “businesses in general” operate.  He wishes to provide a Newco-Rangers with direct access to the top league in Scottish football, the first time anything like this has ever happened.  Perhaps being frank with us on this matter would be advisable.

Even if I was of a mind to agree with Doncaster that rules should be changed to allow Newco direct access to the SPL, his feeble attempts to convince fans of the merits of this idea would leave me ruing the inadequacy of his plan’s execution.

All of this will be a welcome distraction from the main issue for Doncaster.  The SPL allowed last season to conclude without letting clubs or fans know if Rangers competed with ineligible players.  They have been in possession of the information required for over six weeks now but have no intention of letting fans know the outcome until after Newco is voted into the league.

It’s too late now.  Doncaster has had his chance to report and his inquiry has failed to do so.  It has now been taken out of his hands. He has failed you and all Scottish football fans.

It’s time for football executives to relinquish power and for the old media, the fans, the new media and the authorities to take control.

I know, that you know that the Independent SFA Panel ( into breaches of SFA Rules and Regs since May 2011) specifically referred to those covering the integrity of the game. Without rereading the document I believe it may have been Article 5, but do not quote me on it. The Appelate Tribunal dismissed the appeal by Rangers FC, and as such the original penalties and sanctions are upheld. As, in the case of the Independent Panel, a fuller explanation, of the Tribunal, will be published in due course. To their credit, and to many of our surprise, the panel has judged the conduct against the Rules and Regs. even if they did not apply the maximum penalties. The SPL, itself subject to the same rules, has yet to even make, or at least publish, the results of it’s own investigation vis a vis players contracts since 1999. Despite that failing, Neil Doncaster continues to argue the case for Rangers FC, in any form, under any guise, to remain in the SPL, a position that many on here at least contend to be untenable. But not as untenable as Rangers FC remaining in the SPL!

You are so right about Masonic-protectionism in Scotland, and to a lesser extent England. I and others tried many times to expose the establishment’s Masonic cover-up during and after the Cullen (Dunblane) Inquiry but was told in no uncertain terms that not one editor in Scotland would touch it and that I should drop it “If you know what’s good for you”.

Let’s just say if a certain madman had not been a Freemason, 16 children and their Teacher would be alive today.

That’s one hell of a statement to make. I’m not doubting it merely hoping that you have concrete evidence to support your allegations.

Personally I think Duff and Duffer are just a pair of wind up merchants.

  7. Tom McLaughlin – you can’t actually prove that, and I think it’s a wee bit over the line. My big brother was in one of Thomas Hamilton’s boys groups as it happens and that’s about as relevant to the massacre as your statement.

  8. While I’m up late. The Masons are not one all encompassing organisation, where all lodges are one and the same. Some of course are cauldrons of anti-Catholic fervour. Others, like my local one have had (lapsed i presume) Catholics as their Poobah. Two of the last three as it goes. Its probably worth taking a look at the Rites as well as the wrongs.

  9. HT –

There was a police officer whose job it was to check out all citizens owning a firearms licence when it came up for renewal on an annual basis, as well as new applications for a firearms licence. He would go to their house, examine how and where the firearms were stored etc. He would also check criminal records and such like. He had it in his power to recommend that a licence be revoked or refused if the owner or new applicant was deemed not to be a fit and proper person to hold such a licence.

For 3 years in succession, this officer’s recommendation was that TH was not a fit and proper person – there were a number of complaints from the general public about his behaviour around and while in charge of children – and consequently, his firearms licence should be revoked.

For 3 years in succession, the senior police officer whose job it was to rubber-stamp such recommendations, refused to do so, and TH’s firearms licence renewal was duly authorized.

Both TH and the senior police officer who ignored the recommendation of his own officer were members of the same Masonic Lodge.

I cannot prove that their being in the same Lodge had anything to do with TH having his licence successfully renewed, against professional advice, but it isn’t such a large leap of faith is it?

When the Masonic link was raised during the Cullen Inquiry, it was quickly slapped down. Any attempt to resurrect it was hidden in a morass of legal mumbo-jumbo. The truth will out one day though, because the papers surrounding this particular issue will remain secret for a mere 100 years.

A whole lot of people certainly appear to have something to hide.

  10. Tom – one of Thomas Hamilton’s day trips with the boys was to take them on his speedboat to one of the Loch Lomond islands. My brother said that he kept guns stashed there. I’m fairly clear in my mind that a lack of gun license wouldn’t have stopped him.

  11. Whoeee! If that is stone cold fact it needs to be aired very loudly.

Personally,I would put nothing past the masons. A very nasty conniving bunch when they decide to ‘bulldozer’ someone or something.

  12. weeminger –

I accept that, but nonetheless, if TH was allowed to hold a firearms licence against the advice of the professionals whose job it was to make such recommendations, then surely it is a matter of great concern. Again, nobody can prove that he would or would not have kept the guns regardless, but that is surely not the point.

  13. I am not saying this means all Masons are bad people. Obviously the senior police officer who went against his own officer’s recommendations would have had no way of knowing the tragic events that were to unfold, but the point is, it should have been aired in the Inquiry, if only to ensure that steps could be taken to stop it happening again, by which I mean the renewal of the licence against advice, not the tragedy itself.

  14. Tom McLaughlin

Not all Masons are bad, of course not. I would say they have been deceived very badly though. The guys down at the lower levels are only really looking to get a help with their material life and are unaware of what they are really getting into.

Dunblane stinks very badly of a coverup and there is no doubt freemasonry or deeper offshoots will be at the heart of it, as they always are.

Their motto is, “Order out of Chaos”. They are the ones who create the Chaos to bring about the Order they would not normally be able to bring about.

  15. The head of brand marketing of DC Thomson, John Paul Murphy, has today come under fire from Rangers fans who have mistakenly identified him as the man behind the Rangers Tax Case blog, leading to threats also being made to his employer.

A post on the Rangers Media Website forum has asked for information on Murphy, with the author, who goes by the pseudonym Mr Struth, claiming that he saw Murphy receiving email notifications on his phone while travelling to work, with responses to posts on the blog.

The Rangers Media forum post, which included links to Murphy’s Twitter feed, his Linkedin account and a story on The Drum website to highlight his picture, also claimed; “The guy then sent a text to a number asking if he was any further forward with ‘digging’ on Green and an email saying a new blog had to be up soon.”

As a result of this post, Murphy has received abusive tweets from Rangers fans, while DC Thomson is also received threats this morning, The Drum understands.

While Murphy was unavailable for comment, he has tweeted in response; “So apparently I’m @rangerstaxcase! What lovely folks. Invasion of privacy? Definitely. Laughable conclusion? Absolutely”.

He has also said that he has also received anonymous phone calls at his work, but has said that he is yet to contact Police over the matter.

This is not the first case of media intimidation over the reporting of Rangers financial plight in recent months, with Channel 4 chief news correspondent Alex Thomson claiming to have received violent threats from a Scottish sports journalist, while The Daily Record’s Hugh Keevins has also said he has been threatened in response to his coverage of the story.

I think you have misread Tom a lot there m8, perhaps even taken it out of the context of the general chat Tom was commenting on.

The Masons welcome all people but have just one stipulation, that you believe in a supreme being. Christianity has its beliefs undermined consistently and constantly because it is out there to be shot at but these secretive orders keeps its stuff concealed unless it wants it to be revealed. And there is no way any Masonic controversy will be allowed to get any coverage as THE EXILED TIM says.

I hope one day soon we drop this fixation with Rangers. It surprises me that when you search newsnow rangers celtic quick news Celtic does not appear.

I am more interested in what we do this season because whatever form they return will be minimal. Even if they do return to SPL it will be a case of a severe rogering by us, Hearts and probably Dundee Utd.

  21. RalphWaldoEllison –

That comment does not stand up to scrutiny and is totally out of context.

We were discussing a very serious allegation I raised – a specific one – against Freemasons. Another poster made a point about them being a “conniving bunch” and more.

I then countered that with “I am not saying they are all bad”.

If you want to take one single sentence completely out of context to make a weak political point, then be my guest, but you are quite wrong to do so.

This is massive news, the level of corruption being exposed is incredible. They are trying to firefight it but the Big Story will come out soon.

I agree we should have been more focused about Celtic for the big games we lost, the ones we were expected to win, the thing is games are not won on a blog. I do think we could have been more focused for those important games though.

I found it enlightening to compare and contrast the two pieces. It is a given that I carry some baggage and would automatically align myself with the views put forward by Paul67 but nonetheless I was more than a little dismayed by the logical contortionist who wrote the piece on Rangers media and how he resorted to biblical expressions and invective.

We really should have been aware how opaque the rulebooks were, and had them written again with more transparency.

Simple process really-a committee agree on what each part of the rule-book is intending to convet, redraft it accordingly, then pass it over for ratification.

This would have avoided all the problems which we have now. Anyone would think it was the original intention.
